I have built two. The image below was the first one. This was my budget build when I still lived in CT. Ground work is key. Do not rush this in any way. Dig down two inches and level everything. And I mean level. Then add you crusher run gravel. Level this out after 1 inch water it and use a compactor. Add another inch of the crushed stone. Water it, level it and compact it again. Now wait a few days and putt on it. Fix any areas and compact again. Now figure out where you want your hole location. Then you can toss in some more crushed stone where you want a break. Dig out your cup location. Insert the cup leaving the cup top above the gravel about 1/2 the thickness of the turf. Lay your turf out and let it sit a day or two. Once relaxed and flat cut an x over the cup location. Now trim around the cup. Depending on your turf you might need to add infill. I used play sand and it worked out fine for about three years then it just compacted and got to hard to hold a chip. For something your size I would just get a putting green turf. I actually order this one through home depot. They had a turff sample board for indoor outdoor turf and I picked one that would work. 12 feet wide by 18 feet long. Then when I cut to round the corners I added the pieces to the left side. Now I'm in TN and I built one three times the size. Capable of holding 150 yard shots. The turf required infill and a friend had a connection at a sand and gravel yard. I went the cheaper route and used sand instead of the colored rubber infill. Bad mistake. Weeds and moss have taken over the green over time (10 years). Even spraying with weed killer couldn't hold it at bay. With actually tons on sand in the turf it compacted as well. Im in the process of ripping it out. It will take a while. I have to cut it in pieces due to the weight. Then drag it off with a vehicle. Everything underneath is fine. But the 2k I spent on the turf is trash. Think I'm going to add topsoil and go with real grass and modify an old mower. I have to dig up my photos of the second green and post that tomorrow. If you have any questions ask away. PS on green #2 I actually put drain tube from the bottom of the cups under ground and out the sides of the green.

Shot a 44/42:86 today from the White Tees(Flat Belly 6,049 yards) as I was playing with my Grandsons. Had one birdie on the Par 5 #17 today, almost an Eagle as my 108 yard approach shot hit the pin! We had a blast today. One Grandson hit his drive on #14 next to a tree. When we found his ball, we also saw this..... Not a birdie, but a squirrel! It's been waaayyyy too long of an absence for me on this forum. Boy, do I miss you guys and gals. I've been super busy with all amazing and happy stuff in my personal life and it was preventing me from being here in my normal manner. So please indulge me as I share my good news/excuses for my lack of participation 1. I took a promotion at work and am now leading a team in an area of the business that I have minimal experience. I am learning every day, am wiped out mentally due to all of the learning, and loving every second of it. 2. My wife and I welcomed our first child into the world on 11/2/2020. Mackenzie Michelle. She's now 5 months old, and I cannot imagine what my life was like before her. Also, big shout out to @jlukes for the recommendation on the Baby Merlin Magic Sleep Suit. It has worked wonders for us. 3. We bought a new house and have been fixing it up for the better part of the last 4 months. Caring for a newborn and remodeling is quite a challenge, but we are very close to completing most of the major indoor tasks. 4. I was accepted into an MBA program and am going back to school. That type of learning is tough because it has been at least a decade since I had to do any sort of school work. 5. We are closing on the sale of our old house on Tuesday. It's going to be wonderful to be completely finished with the old home and fully in the new home. Thankfully things are calming down with my project list, right on time for the beautiful weather and the courses to open up. Looking forward to sharing my attempts to hack the ball around the course and hearing your tales as well.

INTRODUCTION AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS Greetings fellow Spies! Golfish reporting in for another great testing opportunity provided oh so graciously by Motocaddy and MGS! Quick intro about me. As my MGS handle and picture implies, I am an avid golfer and fisherman. Yes that is me holding a casting rod on a golf course trying to fish my 6iron and my buddy's sandwedge out of a tree. Long story but DM if you want to know more! The GRINT says I played 89 rounds last year which is about right. I do play at least once a week and sometimes 2-3 times if the boss is on vacation! I am currently a 16.7 handicap index that has been trending down lately! My personal best round is 84 on a course measuring 6743 yards from the white tees with a slope and rating of 72.5/133. I currently live in Southern California and have been playing golf seriously for about 4 years. Before then I was a range rat for about 2 years ingraining bad habits into my swing! I chose to use pictures of Marines "humping" (hiking for you civilians) up a hill because that was me back in early 2000's. I served as an 0311 (yes PXG names their clubs after Marine Corps MOS designations because Bob Parsons was a Marine in the Vietnam era) which is your basic infantryman/grunt during Operation Iraqi Freedom. I did a lot of humping up and down hills and was the leanest, meanest fighting machine you'd ever seen! Now as an engineering manager married with two kids, I am quite a bit larger, and slower, and maybe not as mean! But I keep telling myself I need to get back to that time where I was in the best shape of my life. So I try to walk the course whenever I can which is usually any season other than summer here in SoCal. Everyone thinks it is a nice comfortable 70 degrees here all year long. That may be the case in the beach counties but cross the mountains into the Inland Empire and it is desert so it gets pretty hot in the summer. I applied for this Motocaddy test because I wanted to see if having an electric trolley (as they are called in Europe) would allow me to walk during the summer rounds here. As my home course is in a city called Chino Hills, it is quite hilly. The other course I play often is called Mountain Meadows because it is carved at the base of a mountain so there are some elevation changes there as well. This is actually not my first time using an electric push cart as I was in Germany a few years ago on a business trip and managed to get a round together with someone from the vendor I was visiting. He let me borrow his wife's Motocaddy (can't remember the model) as he told me that most everyone in Europe walks and does not ride in a cart. Imagine my surprise when I check my emails and get a notification that I had been selected to test the Motocaddy! As @GolfSpy MPR mentioned we were given the option to test either the M5GPS or the M7 remote. The main difference between the two is that the M5 has an integrated GPS for course info and has a full color display that shows things like yardages and hazard info. The M7 does not have this but has a remote control for operation. After a good ol knife fight, I was selected for the M5 GPS unit. UNBOXING AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS The box is very sturdy and I was a bit concerned when I picked it up from the Fedex office as I saw some damage on one of the panels. Thankfully it did not transfer to the unit and unit came well packaged and well thought out so nothing would jostle and get damaged in transit. The unit comes mostly assembled, with just the battery, wheels, and bag straps not attached. What I was not expecting was the included glass screen protector for the GPS screen. Motocaddy definitely went and got a manufacturer to design and make this custom for this screen as the fit is perfect. Little things like this are what tells the customer that a company appreciates them and is thinking about customer satisfaction. Our phones which for some border on the same cost as a Motocaddy unit don't bother to come with a screen protector! Take some lessons here Apple and Samsung! I install my own screen protectors on my phones so installing this one was the same process. Looks like there is a SIM card for the GPS which is preinstalled in the unit. No idea where it would go anyway but again nice touch not having the customer have to install something that is vital for the function of this product. Some random pictures of the instruction manual, the battery box, etc. The battery connector is proprietary and you will need to use their charger. Charging took about 4 hours for the indicator to go from red to green. Battery is fairly compact but dense. The case is well designed so that it sits in the battery compartment during use and is easy to lift out for charging etc. The instructions recommend disconnecting the battery when not in use to as there is no on/off button. Once out of the box, folding and unfolding is a breeze. 2 latches control the opening and closing of the unit and the front wheel folds in automatically. Attaching the wheels is also easy as each wheel has a small release button you press and push the wheel on to the axle. The wheel system is designed well as there are two notches on the axle for the wheel to lock into. One notch is for battery operation which allows the motor to drive the wheels. The second notch is for freewheel mode if you don't want to use the motor and it allows the wheels to freewheel on what I believe are it's own bearings. Smart design and as an engineer things like this excite me! The accessory station also comes pre-attached and Motocaddy has been gracious enough to send us the full accessory kit which includes a drink holder, umbrella holder, device cradle, and score card holder. This has not yet arrived as I believe we have been told they will be shipped mid April. Perhaps the accessory kit will have what I am looking for but compared to my manual push cart, there is no actual storage on the cart. ON COURSE FIRST IMPRESSIONS I have 2 rounds in (first one was the day I got it lol) and I have to say at first I was not sure if having an electric push cart was going to make a big difference. I am relatively young, in my mid 30's and not totally out of shape. However, after the first round using this, I can't quantitively measure the difference (maybe it is time for a whoop band?) but for sure I was much more energetic at the end of the round than when I used my manual push Sun Mountain Reflex cart. This course is relatively flat with little elevation change (Bryson could probably drive his ball from one end of the course to the other and see the ball flight mostly the entire time!) so the battery usage was minimal. My second round which I played this morning was on a much hillier course. Even with the use of an electric push cart, I was much more exhausted after the round (though that could be attributed to me getting the second dose of COVID vaccine yesterday) and the battery meter looked more depleted. (forgot to take a picture of the screen after to show the battery meter but will remember for future rounds). Controlling the cart is fairly simple, there is a large button in the middle of the handle bars for motor on and off. The button has a dial around it for controlling speed. You can change speeds while the cart is in motion and the response is fairly fast. You can also change speeds while the cart is stopped so that when you turn on the motor it will accelerate to that setting. I did notice though that sometimes the speed dial would not register a speed change and I had to try a few times. Might be I am trying to turn the dial too quickly. Finding my course on the unit was simple as the screen is touch screen and you choose "Play Golf" from the home screen and it searches for GPS data. It will then display courses closest to your location and you choose the course and go. I had no trouble finding the course for both of my rounds. The screen is pretty bright and easy to read in direct sunlight. The screen can be a touch sensitive as during my round I would notice I had pressed the screen accidentally and advanced a hole or went into a setting menu. Most of the menus are intuitive though and you can find your way back to the home screen easy. I did accidentally end my round somehow today between the 5th green and 6th tee box but I was able to find the course quickly before teeing off. You can use the M5 to track your score but it is not saved anywhere. I use my phone to enter my scores on Grint anyway so I am looking forward to the accessory kit. For now I use my Desert Fox phone holder strapped to the push cart. One thing I had to get used to is the lack of onboard storage. My Sun Mountain Reflex has 2 storage bins that I use to hold extra tees and my range finder as well as a 2 ball holder. Not a big deal as the whole point of having a push cart is that you have your bag right there with you and you don't have to walk over to your cart. Plus maybe the accessory kit will have some onboard storage options. Worst case I will use the drink holder as a ball holder as I know my giant water bottle wont fit in it for sure. Comparing distances with my shotscope V3 and a range finder, I noticed the distances on the Motocaddy GPS were consistently longer on the first round. The hazard info was closer to my Shotscope numbers. The M5 has the ability to connect to wifi to update firmware and course mappings. I updated the course info for my home courses yesterday and I did notice that the distances were pretty spot on for my round today. Forgot to take pictures of distances today but I tried to rely on the M5 GPS for distances to greens for my approach shots and I was hitting the greens like a champ today. Even had one rip back 10 feet to within 6 inches from the hole! Not that the push cart had anything to do with that but definitely had the right distances! Here are some videos of the cart running along in the parking lot and on the course. I also tested the DHC (downhill control) function which keeps the cart at the same speed when going downhill. The ADC (automatic distance control) function is pretty cool too. Allowed you to set a distance from 5-60 yards and the cart will go that distance then stop. Handy for making the cart go and wait for you at the next hole. Just make sure there are no obstacles or hazards in the way as the cart only goes in a straight line and will not stop until it reaches the preset distance! I can neither confirm nor deny that I may or may not have taken out a footgolf flag today... The cart handles bumpy terrain fairly well though I would recommend holding on to the handles if it gets really bumpy or you are travelling across an incline that is perpendicular to the direction of travel as the cart may topple over. It is just starting to get heated up here in SoCal so I will also be tracking my weight over the course of the test to see how much walking 1-2 rounds a week contributes to my fitness. Not sure if any other company has shown this much dedication to a product test in the past but it shows how much they actually want to hear our honest opinions and ensure the testing goes smoothly.

So I've been interested in armlock putting as I've ventured down the single plane swing path and the armlock style putting with forward press is very similar to my swing style. Current putter setup is 34" TaylorMade Spider Tour Black double bend (standard 3 deg loft and 70 deg lie). I feel very comfortable with a full locked lead arm/more upright setup in putting so figured lets take a look at Armlocks. I have a pretty straight back straight through stroke. I was originally looking into the Odyssey Doublewide and the Bettinardi Studio 28/Kuchar style. I didn't like the fact Odyssey putters had a counterbalanced grip, so if a grip change was needed or wanted, it would comprise the balance of the putter (not really a fan of the SS counterbore). No go for me. I wasn't a fan of the appearance of the Bettinardis. Also, biggest factor was that I wasn't really sure on what shaft length I actually needed (I'm short only 5'6") and most off the shelf arm locks were only 40" or 42". I saw PXG had their Putters (both Gen2 and Battle Ready) on sale currently. I'm also currently gaming Gen 2 0211s and love the way those feel. Seeing as there is a PXG fitter pretty close, I decided to go check them out. Biggest downside PXG charges $50 to schedule the fitting. Seems like the fitter is regularly at this location anyways. Going in, I was eyeing either the Gen2 Mustang or the Spitfire. Both similar in head weight to my current STB, but closer to blade type profile. The Mustang has 2 configurable sole weights while the Spitfire (similar to Scotty Phantom X) has 4 and seems to offer a little more flexibility. The Armlock shaft creates a setup of 7 deg loft and 73 degree lie. The armlock hosel set sets up a face balanced putter. Weight adjustments can be made to accommodate stroke for more toe or heel balanced. The PXG fitting was outdoor and on actual practice putting green which I really liked to get the feel on actual grass. So there was no SAM or electronic measuring equipment. So where we setup on the practice green, the first flag was about a 10 footer and the far flag was about 25ft. Dove right into the Spitfire first and started at a shorter shaft length (for armlock style that is) of 37.5". Putting towards the close flag. Visually, I really liked the smaller head vs my gamer STB. The weight and balance of the club felt very nice and similar to what I was used to. At address I loved how the converging "wings" of the Spitfire guided my focus to the center of club face. It took the thought about the center of face out of my head and I could just stroke it. I noticed immediately the difference in feel of a full milled putter face vs insert putter. The ball came off the face very crisp with little stroke effort and a nice succinct almost "ping" sound at impact. I felt like a barely had to hit it for a nice smooth roll. The fitter did notice from face on, the lie needed to be adjusted to bring the toe down. So 1 deg flat at 37.5". Stroke was smooth. Holed a few of the putts and those that didn't were tap ins. Next I played with length. I went up to 39" which brought be more upright at address and more fitting to the natural club lie. The top end of the grip was right about the 1.5" below my elbow. It was a little uncomfortable as I felt so upright and too restricted against my arm. So we continued decreasing length in 0.5" increments until I felt most comfortable. I wound up right back where I started at a length of 37.5" so more like more mid-forearm for the top of the grip. Now that length was settled in, I swapped over to the Mustang. PXG says the Mustang stock headweight is only about 10g lighter than the Spitfire, but it felt a lot lighter. Regardless, the weight change threw me off and I just couldn't find a stroke and felt like I was struggling with center face impacts. I didn't hole any putts at 10ft. I also didn't hear the same sound at impact. The Mustang was much more muted. So we then went for the 25ft pin so I could swing away and not think as much about a delicate stroke. Needless to say not much changed. I just couldn't stroke with the Mustang. Then swapped back to the Spitfire still keeping the 37.5" shaft and went for the 25ft pin. Distance control was great! Ranging from a few tap ins to mostly within 2ft from the cup. I really loved the feel and sound. For comparison, I went back to my TM STB. My STB felt soft and almost dull. I left majority of putts maybe more in the 3-5ft range from 25ft out. Definietly had to put a little more into the stroke with my gamer STB. Result: Placed my order for the 37.5" Spitfire. PXG did charge $25 upcharge for the SuperStroke 17" grip (flatso 3.0) for the Armlock setup plus a rediculous $30 for shipping. They said it should ship in about a week. I will update here once I play my first round with the Spitfire and then again after a few more rounds. I also just got the Arccos sensors so I should have some good data. Summary: So I read on a few forums, a bunch of people trying the armlock style of putting but then immediately say they don't like it. From my fitting experience, I wonder how many of those people just grabbed an off the shelf length to try it? The wrong length can immediately ruin the whole experience and the stability benefits of "locking" against the lead arm. I know for sure if I would have just picked up a stock 40" club from a big box store or ebay to try, I would have tossed it aside immediately. If you are looking to dabble in Armlock putting, identifying the proper shaft length first is key.

I planted some shrubs around our condo yesterday. Being retired and slightly tight in the wallet, I decided to use a trowel I had in the garage instead of buying a shovel. What does that have to do with how you played today? I didn't realize I had gotten a blister in the middle of my palm from the trowel - which made itself known when it broke on the first hole today. Not a fun experience especially since it was on my left hand - being a lefty wearing right handed gloves. Still ended up carding a 93. Biting down on the bullet whenever I gripped the club really helped.

Thinking of getting one for my wife, so she could easily go back to old fashioned manual push if/when she wants. Yeah, let us know some highlights / lowlights! Also, are you going to get the TFS?

There are some great players at the top of the leaderboard and I think that most of us would agree that staying calm and “in the game” are definitely important right now. With so many of them playing good golf, handling the bad shots might make the difference this weekend.

Looks like mine will arrive tomorrow! I’m going to get started next week and I’m planning on documenting everything in this thread. I’ll also post pics of the trainer so everyone can get an idea of the build quality. I’ll have a week gap in training cause of work, but after that I’ll have a good stretch of time to really work on increasing my swing speed. I’m excited about getting started and sharing my journey with y’all!

Sasho MacKenzie recently released a speed training system that is called the Stack System. It includes a single stick with changeable weights and an AI + app driven set of training programs. Mine just shipped today. Will be using this thread to provide a review and update on progress. Other folks should join in as well. @mr.hicksta

Ordered a new to me Tensei Blue 75g X shaft to replace my S 65g Tensei Blue. I will need to pull the current adapter and install a Cobra F9 but I think it will all be worth the end result.

That is true. Think about drivers and GI type clubs. Distance somes from less spin. The more spin it has the more it wants to climb which as you are seeing may lead to less distance. This is is a typical problem people see when they switch from set wedges to specialty wedges and why you just can't gap based on the degrees of loft; you actually have to hit the club to see how far it goes.
