funkyjudge
1 hour ago, chisag said: ... Don't we all! Several years ago I charted a few rounds to see what clubs I used the most and was a little shocked at how little I used my irons. Wedges were used much more and throw in some hybrids and a few fairway woods and my irons just weren't used that much. At $1300 and up for irons it is pretty amazing that the cost per shot is much higher than anything else in our bag ... yet they continue to be what draws my/our attention in any golf store. Like an old western, the Winchesters, Sharps, shotguns and other weapons pale in comparison to the shiny revolvers residing in a cool holster slung low that are the new irons of stud cowboys. There are probably only a handful on this forum that didn't buy new irons because we needed them but because we just wanted them. How true! I sometimes go 2 or 3 rounds without hitting my 5 and 6 irons for anything except for punching out from trees and getting back in the fairway. I also have rounds when I don’t hit my 7-wood, and then a few days later I hit the same 7-wood 5 or 6 times. fozcycle, chisag, sirchunksalot and 1 other 3 1 Quote DR - Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max, Newton Motion 4-Dot shaft 4W - Titleist TSR2, Newton Motion 4-Dot FW shaft HYB - Sub 70 949X 21*, original HZRDUS Black 85-S shaft 7W (if played) - Titleist TSR, ACCRA TZ6 7S Irons - Cobra King Forged Tec X, KBS TGI graphite shafts Wedges - Edison 2.0, 47* (bent to 48*), 53* and 57* (bent to 58*), KBS TGI 100 Tour S Putter - Evnroll ER10 ""Outback” Mallet Ball - Maxfli Tour-X CG (2023) or Vice Pro Plus Bags - Vessel / Ghost stand bags Cart - MotoCaddy M7 Remote (without the remote) Spoiler Lots of short game practice has made this a strength; now the driver is causing problems! vandyland
On 11/9/2022 at 1:00 PM, cksurfdude said: Very different player than you but just fyi I've tried a bunch of hybrids and ended up with a Rogue ST Max OS 4H (Cypher Black shaft) .. really like it! Well, I bought it (the Rogue ST Max 3 hybrid - 18*) off of Callaway Pre-Owned for $175. It is in excellent condition, I must say. I finally got it out on the course yesterday and I hit it off the turf twice and off the tee 4 times with the following results (using Taylormade MyRound Golf Gps to track distances, this is TOTAL not carry): Off the turf: 211 yds and 227 yds (I hit the first one a bit out of the heel and pured the second one) Off the tee: 264 yds (excuse me....what?), 249 yds, 266 yds (again, what?), 240 yds All were straight with a slight draw except for the one out of the heel. I have to say that the distance is staggering, especially off the tee. I legitimately am encroaching on my driver with this thing. For reference, I hit driver 4 times yesterday with yardages of 271, 265, 270, 277. And only hit 1/2 the fairways with that. So what am I to make of this? Is this just a new club honeymoon phase? I will say it is tricky if I am, say, 210 yds out and there is trouble long I am worried about hitting the hybrid OVER the green but that is a very small problem. More so, the thing is absolutely nuclear and straight. Has totally made me rethink my bag setup and callaway golf clubs in general. Based solely off of yesterday's round, I think my bag carry distances now looks like this: Driver: 255 yds 3 (18*) Hybrid: 230 (off tee), 220 (off turf) 4 (20* but also only 37" length) Hybrid: 205 (off tee), 195 (off turf) 5 (26*) iron: 180 etc.... Someone please stop me from going ALL callaway now. Driver, maybe Rogue ST Pro irons (well maybe not since the 7 iron is 30.5* -- that would require a big bag shakeup as my current 7 iron is 34*)? I reserve the right to retract all these statements after a bad round with the hybrid but it may have solved like 3 different problems I had previously. I had no consistent club that could carry more than 200 yds off the turf, I needed a longer club off the tee for tight driving zones and I wanted a club I could "sling" around doglegs. Well, so far check, check, check. edingc and cksurfdude 2 Quote STZ 230 9.5* / Pro Fli-Hi 21* MALTBY TS1-IM 5-GW Equalizer II 54* / Carnoustie 60* L.A.B. cnosil
Working on my putting and want to experiment a little bit with the putters playing length so I want to try and find an adjustable length shaft or fitting putter for a reasonable price since it will mostly be an experiment. I know a few Ping models (Scottsdale TR and Sigma 2) have adjustable length but they are in the $150 range used. I found that Apollo made an adjustable one, but can't find a place to purchase.
