Is it not goaltending when the bAll hits the back board and then gets blocked, f the NCAA, these refs suck badly.

I'm wondering the same thing. It looked like it hit the rubber/foam stuff first, idk. I don't think it's reviewable though.

Terrible. Just terrible, it should not be this bad in a championship game. I say all the time, I do t care if you call fouls on my teams, just make sure you call the same fouls on the other team. It's not even close.

Yes, should have been a goaltend. Michigan unfortunately continuing their absolutely terrible shooting in all except one game of the tournament. ‘Nova shoots the lights out. #Ugh...

It actually is. Didn't see what you're referencing, but once the ball hits the backboard it can't be touched.

Dang, Nova was GOOOOOOD! Michigan did not have enough firepower. Michigan has had too many games where they shoot below 30% from 3, like tonight. They had to be near perfect to win.

Not having a horse in the race, I enjoyed it! Glad to see it was pretty consistently called by the refs, as a coach, that's the biggest thing one can ask for!

Makes me wonder to whom Nova lost their four games!!!

Congrats to Nova. Michigan just didn't shoot the ball very well. Only one person on either shot the ball well. There was terrible officiating in this game. Just as there was in every other game, but if we would have made some of our open shots, could have been different. Although I beleive that the refs would have gotten worse had the game been closer. My opinion of course. Great year anyway.

The layup by Simpson that hit eh backboard on the way up, then got jammed between the backboard and rim. I don't think it would have mattered. It was any easy call but apparently the refs were too much in awe of Nova to notice

If it's the play I'm thinking of. I'm pretty sure he pinned the ball against the glass, before it made contact with it, not blocked it after it hit the glass.

Yep that's the play it hit the board on he way up and then got pinned. There were many bad calls, but Michigan didn't make their open shots that could have kept the game closer. It may have mattered if they would have made shots, but since they didn't, the outcome wasn't changed by it.

I don't know Kor I thought he pinned it there which is legal. And that's after watching it on replay. Goal tending calls are brutal at full speed.

 

Nova won the 50/50 balls by a wide margin and killed Michigan off the boards. That's where the game was won.

 

The officiating is always difficult in these games. Leagues get officiated in certain ways and officials are known quantities . It becomes different in the tournament where crews get split and it's hard to get a read on what guys allow or not. Certainly the game changed when Robinson picked up his 2nd foul but Villanova has far more foul trouble to deal with in the second half than Michigan.

That particular play was weird. It looked to me at full speed that it hit the bottom of the backboard on the way up, not sure on the ruling on that. If it hit the backboard before he pinned it, it should've been goaltending, but it was hard to see at full speed

If the ball is contacted BELOW the rim, no goaltending. I haven't gone back and watched the play in slow-mo, so I'm not sure if it hit the backboard before the pin, but if it hit the board below the rim, no matter what, it would be legal.

I pinned a guy's shot at the square in college and got called for a foul! Boy, was I ticked! Never touched anything but the ball. Hard for officials because they will ALWAYS be trailing that play as it's a fast break, and they're also to the side. Last night's play did not appear to be goaltending to me. Besides, the loss was by 17. That extra 2 wouldn't have been the difference.

I know it's tough when one's team gets beat, but a comment on blaming officials...

As I was taught as a player, and passed-on as a coach, “You have to outplay the officials.”

I've never felt that in the title game are officials actually helping a team win. I reffed for three years after coaching and it was extremely difficult. Teams should play at a level where the officials missing calls doesn't affect an outcome. If the game is close enough where one bad call makes the difference, that's on the team for being in that situation.

“Outplay the officials.” UofM didn't lose because of calls. Nova had more guys in foul trouble... Hard not to blame someone, but the Blue were not “jobbed” last night. They were completely outplayed.
