Are static body measurements still relevant?

Recommended Posts

I have seen this come up a few times in discussions, but without going back through and re-reading every fitting discussion, I can't remember the consensus (if there was one).

With today's launch monitor technology that is employeed by fitters, are static measurements such as wrist to floor still relevant?

As a potential starting point. How you swing Is a better way to determine proper fit.

In my opinion, i think static measurements become more important when we are talking about measurements that deviate significantly from average. For example, I am short (5'5"), but have a wrist to floor of about 30.5" because my legs are short. I think I saw somewhere that my wrist to floor measurement is the average for someone who is 5'2" or 5'3". Overall, I never feel comfortable with men's off the rack length clubs.

All in with this. In a perfect world, a fitter would start with a static measurements build and then go from that point based on swing and ball flight

Agreed. It's always a nice starting point. I always got the static measurements and started from the Ping chart and worked my way out from there.

Absolutely relevant. We are all different and taking those measurements will never hurt. Fitters should also look at the players swing to see if they should have lessons to fix a fault that will affect the fitting. The customer should also be wearing golf attire and the golf shoes they play in. Going into a fitting wearing a long sleeve business shirt and leather soled flats is not a good idea
