Attention all Shotscope users.
We will be calling in you soon for a special opportunity! Details to come in roughly a month, but be on the look out!

Sounds great because the weather in my area should be better for golfing by that time.

For anyone that has used these or any shot trackers.  Do you notice them during your swing?  I have been looking at several different ones but that is my big hold up.  Well that and them actually staying on the clubs

I have use shot scope and didn't notice them at all.  They are light weight and very thin and they twist solidly into the grip so little change of losing one unless the part that goes into the grip breaks.     Arrcos is a little thicker and heavier but again not really that heavy to impact swing weight by much.

Thanks!  I ordered the H4 handheld with the trackers for $99. As many rounds as I play it would be nice to track that data and see after the year what it looks like for each hole.

I dont notice the sensors on the clubs at all.  The difference in swingweight with or without the sensor installed is not noticeable.  My clubs go from the heavy side of the swingweight line to the light side of the line.  I cannot feel that small difference.

I had to trim the sensor screw for my ping putter so i keep an eye on that one.  There is a screw in the grip end to adjust the putter length and the sensor screw was too long to fit correctly.  All the other sensors are solidly in place.

The H4 is small and provides basic information F/M/B distance and hazards.  Other than that it is used simply to capture what club you used and where the shot was hit from by tapping the sensor on the h4 unit.

The CONNEX option appears to be done through their app and gives you a couple of extra things like aerial views of the holes while you are playing.  Reading through @sirchunksalot review of connex it looks like it does proximity location as well,  but you have to have your phone with you all the time.

I chose the H4 because I can attach it to my bag and I'm hoping by doing that I remember to tap the club to it.  I ride 98% of the time and have GPS on the cart so it's more for tracking history of how I've played that I'm most interested in.

That will work as long as where you take the shot from isn't too far from where your bag is. However, as I understand it (I don't have an H4 but have used the watches), you will have to take it with you onto the green to record your putts and the hole location.

I can say the Connex isn't a bad unit if you're in a budget. Like @cnosil said you do have to have your phone on you and pull it out to record every shot, which isn't a problem but it can be a bit time consuming on the green. I've actually lost my putter sensor because I hadn't glued it to my SuperStroke grip and was placing it in a button hole on my polo so it was accessable. It didn't fall out, but I can't remember what I did with it after the round. The bag thing is, they don't offer replacements for the Connex system so now I'll have to manually record every putt.

100% correct,  you really need to have the h4 with you on the green to tag putts and record the hole location.   You can always add them during the post round edit but probably not the ideal way.

As @cnosil said, you shouldn't notice them - Arccos or ShotScope

As @tony@CIC stated, they stay very secure in a grip. I actually pull my club from my bag & give it a momentary 'twist check' before my pre-shot routine...and then again after my shot before placing my club bag back in my bag. Call me paranoid 🤷‍♂️

The tags are quite durable, considering they are in constant contact with the bottom of a bag (especially for those who ride).

I have/had all the watches as well as the H4. I liked the H4 a lot whenever I wasn't wearing any shirt/pullover/jacket that could get in the way of attaching the unit to the mag holder, but that's most of the time. I never had any issue with it coming off unless something was caught in between. But that was often enough that I preferred to carry it in my pocket as well. I still generally find the X5 more convenient, though, and easier to tag than pulling the H4 out of my pocket which is the only way I'm assured it registered.

As far as losing tags; I did lose one a long time ago and I, too, now make a habit of snugging up the tag on as part of my pre-shot routine. Occasionally I find one coming lose, usually one of the wedges, but I haven't lost one since.

I can't say that no one could ever feel the weight of one of the tags. But I don't, and I don't personally know of anyone who does or even could.

Well I’ve updated the firmware for my X5 and will be out on the course today so it will be interesting to see how the new hole preview, layup distance and other new features impact.

I, too, updated my X5 firmware (went smoothly!!) and then played the back nine at a local course. The X5 quickly found the course, but it took me a bit to figure out how to change holes. I seem to remember a menu selection last year but I couldn't find that with the updated screens.  What worked was unlocking the screen and then touching the outer ring that show what hole you're on. That pops up another screen where you can change the hole. Easy once you know!

Anyway, that wasn't a big deal and the watch seemed to track everything well while I was playing with the exception of one hole where it advanced to the next tee before I got on the previous green. Since that's happened in the past, I wasn't worried about it. This was a practice round where I was hitting multiple balls throughout the 9 holes. I wasn't concerned with any iron yardages since I would hit, for example, short irons & wedges from several distances and positions into a green. Just to track what I was seeing with my new driver, though, I would always hit from the same position on the tee box and then go to each ball to gauge distance before the next shot. So far, so good.

However, when I synced the round once I got home, the app shows two different rounds AND shows shots on a hole that I didn't even play; #8 which is a significant distance from where I was. It recorded one round as playing holes 10, 11, & 12, and a 2nd round as playing holes 8 and 12 thru 18. The website, though, sorta combines the two rounds, but only shows scores for holes 8 and 12 thru 18 skipping #10 & #11.

I realize that this isn't the review of the updated firmware anyone wants as I really didn't try to utilize any of the new features. BTW, the course I played is very open, no leaves on what trees that are there, and not a cloud in the sky while I played. Shouldn't have been any environmental causes. I'm at a loss to explain the weirdness.

Well have to say that the update to the X5 is good. Hole maps are clear and easy to see

IMG_4883.jpeg.829b2a3e7ee458aade39160b6cd1ae9d.jpeg

The target line can be moved to show distances too

IMG_4885.jpeg.57c0fff4f69abb797e5743324bcb0b78.jpeg

On this dogleg hole all the area to the right of the dogleg is out of bounds and has high trees which make it impossible to cut the corner but by adjusting the line I was able to easily see how far it was to the dogleg.
On the tee you can bring up your P Avg distances for your longest three clubs to give you an idea of which is best off the tee for that hole

IMG_4884.jpeg.b29dad51398c234c584cf375ba5cad83.jpeg

On this hole I somehow managed to hit a perfect tee shot, using my 3 hybrid, which positioned me exactly at the dogleg and centre of fairway. If only I could do it more regularly 🤣

IMG_4886.jpeg.cd84a6af65311235ec4a5c8f269bf9a9.jpeg

This left me a decent pitch shot into the green and again this was easy to see on the screen

IMG_4888.jpeg.ecf53d7db3e05e025ec8b9f0aeb38b8f.jpeg

You can also show layup distances on a hole which lets you plan your approach into the green pretty well

IMG_4876.jpeg.bcb469646e9d44e0f926f990a5c2cf1a.jpeg

The watch was fully charged before the round and after 18 holes still had 59% battery so the update hasn’t had any negative impact on the battery life and should, hopefully, see you through 36 holes if needs be.

All in all I think it’s a good update that seems to work well and makes the X5 even better than it was. In fact I’d go as far to say that after this update the X5 has to be one of the best golf watches out there for the price. I also have a Garmin S62 which cost a lot more than the X5 but I have to say I prefer the X5 over the Garmin.
One thing that would make the X5 even better would be the ability to show P Avg distances for all clubs, rather than just the 3 longest, as this would assist with club selection. That said it’s a minor point.
Hopefully this gives you an insight into the new update but if there’s anything I’ve missed let me know and I’ll try to answer.

Great review along with the pics. I just uploaded the firmware but won't be able to user it on course til Wednesday.  One suggestion to those that have uploaded it but haven't used it is to go through the settings to make sure you have the options picked to your liking as there are several new ones.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I'm envious of your battery life as I typically end 18 with anywhere from 35-40%. Not a big issue as I never play more than 18 in a single day. But it does leave me wondering if there is a setting that's draining it more quickly. Note: Pin reminder is disabled, Putting is on Auto mode, Lock is disabled, and Show Club is enabled.

I’m not sure if they’ve done something to improve the battery life as I’ve played 36 holes in a day a few times and have always had to charge it half way through. I have the same settings as you so will monitor the battery life and see if it continues

Took the latest firmware/app update on the course today. I turned on the watch about an hour before the round, but the gps/tracking just before we teed off. I forgot to 'end round' until about 1/2 hour after we finished and ended up with 46% battery so it looks like that's a nice improvement. I also used the new features, specifically the Pavg for layups since I was playing a course I don't frequent that often. This is definitely a nice feature especially in those circumstances so kudos to SS for adding that. I probably won't use it on the course I play frequently unless I mix up the tee boxes, which I sometimes do to add variety. This feature definitely helps you think backwards from the pin.
