Popular Post skraeling
Thursday.... Anyway... last night did the last session for my first round of speed training. The difference is... significant. I have the official progress check tomorrow, but I think even on the low end im up a pretty easy 5mph probably more. and yes I have 100% noticed a difference on course. muscling a drive 245 doesnt sound impressive, then you remember you just did that into a 20mph headwind. scary. Popular Post GolfSpy_KFT
Good morning fellow spies and thank goodness it is community call Thursday! I will be working to get some projects complete at work today so that I can hopefully be on for the call in it's entirety. Really looking forward to having Andy Nalla from Ghost Golf join us! Also has been a fun week seeing my Wisconsin golf courses article gain some traction on social media! It was shared to a Wisconsin golf group I am a part of on Facebook, and I was approached by another member at my course Wednesday who I had not met yet and complimented me on the article. A few of the courses I included also shared it, so just a neat feeling. Popular Post StrokerAce
It's a freebie! Enjoy the leapday everyone. May today be the best day of the rest of your life. Why do leap years exist? Leap years happen because of a “mismatch between the calendar year and Earth’s orbit,” according to NASA. While we think of one year as lasting 365 days, it actually takes a little longer — approximately 365 days and 6 hours — for the Earth to orbit the sun. That extra quarter of a day has to go somewhere, so around every four years, we add 24 hours — or four times six hours — to the calendar. As The Washington Post reported, leap days are what keep our seasons and our calendars in sync — which, in turn, makes it possible for farmers to grow crops and for humans to celebrate religious and other holidays around the same time each year. Shauna Edson, an astronomy educator at the National Air and Space Museum, previously told The Post that without them, our calendars would be ahead of the Earth’s orbit by a day every four years, amounting to 24 days each century. This means that, slowly but surely, our seasons and solstices would occur at vastly different times than we are used to. “At first, we might not notice,” Edson said. “But there eventually would be a time that we’d be celebrating the Fourth of July and it’d be snowing.” Why do we have leap years? Without them, Halloween would be in the spring. Who came up with leap day? According to the National Geographic, the mismatch between human calendars and the orbit of the Earth and the sun caused “chaos” for centuries, leading ancient societies in Egypt and China, and later the Roman Empire, to come up with workarounds. But nothing quite worked — until Pope Gregory XIII implemented the Gregorian calendar and its leap-year system. Not everyone uses the Gregorian calendar, and some cultures have come up with different ways to account for the extra time it takes the Earth to orbit the sun. The Hebrew calendar, for example, has an extra month on certain years within a 19-year period, to ensure that religious holidays align with solar seasons. Good morning everyone, Snoopy try swinging your driver like an 8 iron shot . I typically drive the ball very well and hit lots of fairways. I always ask myself this question when I start getting sideways a little . “ Do I want to score or do I want to hit it as hard as I can and go look fit it ?”. Popular Post ILMgolfnut
Good morning, Spies! Good news from the jury folks last night, in that I am not needed ("released" is the word they use). Still have to work today instead but maybe I can make the community call. I'll see if I can get the truck scheduled to clean out the garage tomorrow for my sim space. @sirchunksalot best of luck at the doctor. I had to have a spot removed from my arm about 20 years ago. It was malignant, but it was the best kind of skin cancer to have and they got all of it. Only residue is an annual visit to the dermatologist for a total body skin check (this year's edition is two weeks from today). I figure exposure from golf was the cause. Wear your sunscreen, folks! Popular Post cksurfdude
And another good morning to you all today!! And, yep .. crazy weather came this way too with a 20+ degree drop in temps along with a 30+ increase in wind speed! Fingers crossed for @sirchunksalot and good wishes for his Lady Chunks .. ya mon evah-ting gonna be alllright.. So today, actually this evening, is the start of a 5 week golf clinic (full description below) at an indoor sim (don't like hitting inside but this sounded really good) .. focusing on short game (who doesn't need that?) .. with an add'l emphasis on course management and mental game (and man do I need both of those!!). All part of getting prepped for what I'm trying to make my best golfing season yet! (Warning: actual results TBD ) Hope y'all have a most excellent Thursday!!! ... "..golf clinic will ... teach you to hit the correct shot (sometimes teaching the execution of said shot) playing smarter with better course management, improving and getting your golf swing to be more repeatable, and lastly but most importantly, SHORT GAME is where it’s at, you will learn how to minimize 3 putts, get up and down from the greenside bunker, and start hitting your chips and pitch shots inside 10 feet regularly, which is the scoring zone! The other aspect when we start trying to lower our score by 2, 3, 4 shots per round is the MENTAL SIDE of the game. Having the correct mindset and being exact in our pre-shot routine, thinking soundly under pressure and using the right mental cues to improve our shots. You could almost use MENTAL GAME and COURSE MANAGEMENT interchangeably a good part of the time. Everyone that signs up, I want you to think about the one shot or part of your game that is holding you back. Be it a certain shot, or situation. Whether its pressure, or bunkers, or …….. Based off of YOU and the other clinic participants will determine, in part, what situational aspects of the game we put the most energy and focus on. The lessons in the advanced level golf clinic series meticulously focus on key aspects of golf that have the potential to transform your game altogether. Course management is an essential skill often overlooked by amateur golfers. However, mastering it can significantly enhance your scoring ability. The average amateur wastes 5 or 6 shots per round, a single digit handicapper throws away 2 or 3 shots, just from poor course management. The majority of this clinic will be spent “On Course via the Simulator” allowing us to hit specific shots and placing the ball in specific spots. The sessions will hone your skills in strategically plotting your way around the course, evaluating the best play options, and tackling course obstacles better and playing smarter. One of the most critical aspects to progress in golf is refining your swing and that may be very minor adjustments to increase a repeatable motion enabling you to hit the ball with better accuracy, and a narrow shot dispersion pattern. The short game, involving pitches, chips, sand shots, and putts, is often the defining difference between a good round and a great one. In the golf clinic series, we delve deep into the nuances of the short game, helping you save valuable strokes and lower your overall scores. All parts of the MENTAL GAME! Including dealing with shots under PRESSURE. Lastly, the bracing challenge of uneven lies unequivocally tests all golfers. Learning how to adapt to various slopes and terrains, how the ball behaves differently on these, and how to modify your stance and swing for each type of uneven lie, are significant topics covered in the series. Elevating your game to the next level depends on these nuanced elements of golf. The advanced level golf clinic series brings these to the fore and equips you to become a more accomplished golfer giving you the ability to shave those few extra shots off your round. This could be the difference between breaking 80 or not, winning a club championship or not, qualifying for the US Amateur or not, whatever your goals are or wherever your golf game is currently, I will help you achieve your golf goals and give you the tools to get you playing to the best of your ability." ... Moving the ball back in my stance a little and standing a little more upright seemed to help a bit and I am trying to replicate it before heading back to the range to check ball flight. What matters first is where you are hitting your driver ! Hitting it of the toe can be a variety of things, but for me it means my lower body outracing my upper body . If you are doing this , I have a mindset that you might want to try , keep your back to the target as long as possible while starting your downswing . Also you could be swinging over the top , or your ball position could be the cause. In reality , you should have a credible person to watch you swing and it doesn’t have to be a “PGA” professional either . Most courses have players with really good talent and play well . Start by being humble enough to ask and share your frustrations with someone like that and you’d be surprised how quick they would love to share the knowledge and experience with you. I know about that firsthand from my own course . I asks the guys that are scratch players or even the ones with plus handicaps for advice . Recently, I just got help with my poor iron play and it was such an easy fix and nothing that I could spot personally. Oh , I forgot one thing , what I meant by swinging your driver like an 8 iron was doing so with the same tempo and transition. But again that’s works well with me . Popular Post GolfSpy BOS
Good morning and happy Thursday all! Bright and sunny this morning but man we had some wind gusts roll through last night that sounded like they were going to take the solar panels off the roof. It's still pretty windy today too. All in all, not a bad day to end February and turn the corner into March and a hopeful early Spring! Looks like no snow in the next 10 days so we're on the right track! THE GOLF GUY
4 minutes ago, Placasse61 said: good morning Spies Played yesterday 70's overcast with 30 mph winds gusting around 50! Never played in those conditions and it showed! There were times the wind affected putting, stopping downhill putts or moving the ball during putts! I hit 9 of 15 fairways and hit my Irons well but couldn't adjust approaches and short game to the wind and couldn't handle the many sand traps around the green. Had so much fun but the score was terrible 53/62. Popular Post Matumbo
Good morning! It seemed like Spring was just around the corner for my area on Tuesday (2/27) with record highs of 73*. We then plummeted to low 30's Wednesday afternoon with snow overnight and this Thursday morning. I still have high hopes Spring will be here to stay soon. Fingers crossed! ejgaudette, snoopy79, sirchunksalot and 7 others 10 Quote Golfing for fun.

What a wild swing in temperatures so Extra coffee needed this morning. Going to a Brit Floyd concert tonight. They’re a very good Pink Floyd tribute Band, so a throwback to my youth. Enjoy your day. I think I saw you went from plus 16 to -1 or something like that, wow... Jim Shaw
53 minutes ago, THE GOLF GUY said: Good morning everyone, Snoopy try swinging your driver like an 8 iron shot . I typically drive the ball very well and hit lots of fairways. I always ask myself this question when I start getting sideways a little . “ Do I want to score or do I want to hit it as hard as I can and go look fit it ?”. A simple but effective method to playing better . I play 2-3 times a week and there is always someone that out drive you but a lot of the times they can’t out score you ! Hoping this helps somewhat i like that swing thought, thanks... Popular Post jbern
Good morning! Woke up at 5:45AM with the kids the morning and I was pleasantly surprised that the older two got ready all on their own and were ready for school/daycare an hour early! That has never happened. I felt like a prank was about to come and maybe it still will! haha Work is meetings all day today. I do have a bit of a break from 4-4:30PM, so I might be able to hop on the community call today for the first time! Yesterday, I was able to get to the simulator and work on my swing thought and test/compare my new Cobra LTDx to my existing gamer, PXG Gen4 0811X. It was a lot of fun! Have a good day everyone! @sirchunksalot - Wishing and praying for a good outcome for you and your SWMBO. I had a scar a few years ago and had a cancerous spot removed. It was in the direct center of my back and was NOT fun. I'm really hoping yours turns out to be nothing! @Wheelieb - Congrats on your 19 years of service anniversary! I don't thank the Vets in my life enough, so @Wheelieb, @Erin B @StrokerAce & @William P, thank you for your service! @ParFore74x - I think you're really going to enjoy those Sub70 wedges! I don't know what wedges you're coming from, but the 286s seem to have a great blend of forgiveness while still being versatile! Popular Post fixyurdivot
Top of the pot spies! Well, I did in fact keep the scoring going at men's league yesterday, with a 77 gross/71 net, tying for 2nd place. My only blem, which cost me outright 1st, was on the par 5 #18 where I managed to use 5 strokes from 67 yards. I'm placing the blame on one of my playing partners who revealed my T1 position as we left the 17th hole... I do not watch our leaderboard. It was a really solid ball striking and putting round. The Odyssey Seven T CH was back in the bag after a brief timeout. With company coming on Sunday, I'm taking River over to PetsMart for a bath then our Honda over to the carwash for a clean-up. Those are the two items I know of on my "honey-do" list... I'm pretty sure there are others I've not yet seen . Have a great day everyone! Edit... Popular Post Shrek74
Good morning and happy Friday Eve my fellow Spies!! It's a very chilly but sunny morning here. The rain and wind that came through yesterday dropped the temps from the 60's to the 20's within a few yours. Gonna be back into the 40's today and tomorrow, then eventually the 60's by Monday. I have a feeling Spring is arriving, at least to some degree. Nothing crazy to share this morning. I'm currently cruising on my under-desk treadmill for round 1 of 4, so gotta get the body warmed up and moving this morning.
