Loved participating in week 2! Sadly Mother Nature has other plans for us here in Wisconsin this week. Hoping with any luck I’ll be able to sneak a round in late next week if the weather turns, but should be back in business for week 5 regardless!

Short course got the better of me. Inaccuracies off the tee caused a lot of bogies and poor putting led to missed opportunities for birdies. Only upside was missing an ace by three inches. Maybe next week.

Played the back 2x yesterday since the ladies group was on the front. Been psychotically working on my short game and it came through. As usual, the wind was a beast I had trouble with but as long as my approach was nearby, I was able to get up and down. I did get in trouble with a couple 3 putts though. So, I guess I need to get back to putting practice a bit too.

This was an all-time high posted score for me!  Nothing, I mean nothing was working today.  There's likely a decent set of reasons.  First, total lack of sleep as I didn't sleep well knowing that I'd be traveling tonight back to Upstate NY to visit my family.  Throw in my first round with my Paradym X irons AND my correct length shaft for my Ping G430 Max driver and there were enough new variables to throw me off a little bit!  I only had less than a handful of acceptable Paradym X iron shots as I was more worried mentally recording the direction and length of each shot than making good contact with the ball.  It's only one round.  I have a week off due from golf, so maybe I can put this round behind me and start new next Tuesday!

First time playing this course for the year. It was in decent shape. They are currently in the process of redoing the sandtraps, a few of the holes have greens that could use some help as well but overall nice course. My game however is not the best, still trying to figure out my driver. Sometimes I pipe it down the stripes 300+ and sometimes i'm 250 snap hooking it. I was very windy out there today as well. Wouldn't of been a terrible round if I could get rid of those triples on par 3's.

Played a round at Oyster Reef on Hilton Head Island. The weather was prefect and the course is coming out of winter grass. Very changeling course with the amount of sand traps on it. I was in a few of them and of course in the tree couple of times.

Sounds like a great day at Hilton Head John!  Are you on a golf trip, or just taking advantage of being in the area with a round of golf?

My game however is not the best, still trying to figure out my driver. Sometimes I pipe it down the stripes 300+ and sometimes i'm 250 snap hooking it. I was very windy out there today as well. Wouldn't of been a terrible round if I could get rid of those triples on par 3's.

Good to see your post on the VCT Tommy!  I'm recently very familiar with the Pipe or Snap scenario you describe - especially now... as I'm working on a swing change.  But my "Pipe down the Stripes" is more like 265 and the snapper in the 225 range... or less as that snap usually brings trees into play just past the tee boxes on my course (I think the course designer had me in mind with every tree placed on my course... I have become intimate with most of them..haha).

Really hoping to get out this week. Thursday will be 7 days post doctors order of 7 days limited activity so we’ll see !

Take it slow... you have a whole golf season ahead of you... try not to take yourself out before you even get started!!  You will be challenging the Long Drive group in no time.

You are like the postal service Kenny... you delivered the round in every weather option Mother Nature could throw at you!  haha

Just like the postal service with lack of employees this last winter when the mail was backed-up, I too am constipated.  😂

Not my best.  Short game failures led to multiple double bogeys (6). Greens were punched and sanded heavily last week and are barely puttable at this point.  But I had one of those rounds where nothing felt right save for three tee shots and one crisp 6 iron.  Maybe Thursday will be a better day.

The highlight of this round came on a par 5 into the wind. I hit my driver about 240 yards, then driver off the deck about 200 yards to leave 45 yards left to a front pin which was tucked just off the edge of the green and over a bunker. I hit a lob wedge to the rough right of the green, it bounced left and I watched in amazement as it disappeared into the cup for my first ever eagle.

First tee time out today - candidly a pretty up & down round (they don't have a driving range / practice facility to warm up, which stinks).  Was able to walk a full 18 in under 3 hours, so thats a win!

Maybe that is my issue, I just switched my grip this year. I have always done the baseball grip and now switched to an overlap. I would love to blame it on that but we all know that's not the reason, 🤣. Thankfully that course I played is fairly open and you can recover from most areas. My home course is not like that at all though. I usually hit a lot of 3w shots in order to combat the snap hooks. What are you changing about your swing?

Unfortunately my kids both have strep and I won't be able to make it out again and play this week. I'm sure I will make up for it next week though, lol.

I started with a baseball grip as well (more years ago than I can count at this point haha).  And transitioned to interlock.  I'm not against the 5 finger grip... I think there are some advantages to it... I just feel more connected to the club face by interlocking.  (I have tried overlap, but my fingers are too short 😕 .

As far as my recent swing changes, I have a nasty habit of creating turn by cocking in my left knee - which then makes it "easy" to start my downswing by an over the top first move (HATE IT).  So I'm working first on getting my left knee bend on the back swing more over my left foot, rather than it moving toward the right foot.  I have noticed a huge difference in ball contact, a more crisp strike, and less glancing due to improved path into the ball... so that has helped my distance a bit as well.  I am still out of position at the top, so that is my next hill to climb... but I think starting with a good beginning base and working systematically through the swing is better than trying to fix the end of the swing, trying to work back to front.  At least that is my current approach.

I changed the grip cause I felt like I was just gripping the club too tightly with the baseball grip and would force a heavy draw on the ball. It seems to have turned into a baby draw with the overlap so i'm going to continue with it for awhile.

To be that aware of your golf swing is impressive to me. It makes a lot of sense how you're approaching it. Have you ever taken formal lessons? or is it all self taught?
