I don't have any golf focused trips planned for 2024. We are taking an extended family trip to Branson, MO and I'm going to bring the clubs to play a course or two in the area.

Then we're doing a family trip with a couple of other families to the north west Michigan and I'm planning to bring the clubs to play Arcadia Bluffs in Arcadia, MI (a bucket list course for me).

Taking the family to Jamaica in June for 10 days.  There are four courses near the hotel I’m planning on playing; Cinnamon Hills, White witch, Half Moon and the Tryall club course.  Looking forward to playing in the sunshine

You can play #1, #3, #5 or the Cradle (9-hole par 3 course which is a blast) at Pinehurst itself without staying at the resort. I think 1, 3 and 5 are $130 each during the summer, the Cradle is $50 with unlimited free replays if it's not too busy. Looks like you may actually be staying at the resort if you're playing #8, but don't rule out the others. Also #10 is opening this spring and is supposed to be awesome; it's a Tom Doak design and also limited to resort guests. I've played #3, which is a Donald Ross course. Ross also redesigned #1 and of course is responsible for the big dog, #2.

If you're into Mike Strantz courses, there are two: Tobacco Road and Tot Hill Farm. And Mid-Pines and Pine Needles are also Ross designs.

Oyster Bay is a good one at Sunset Beach, and not horribly expensive. Of course, North Myrtle Beach is very close by with all of those courses, but you already knew that because you're looking at Tidewater (17 miles from Oyster Bay).

Play Buffalo Ridge in Branson, you will not regret it.

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately Buffalo Ridge is going to be closed when we’re in the Branson area. I’d love to do a full blown golf trip there sometime though!

Oh man!

All the Big Cedar courses are incredible. I played all of them in 2022. You need to play one of them somehow. My favorite was Payne’s Valley but I think it’s $350 a round now ha. 
 

Honestly the Jack Nicklaus par 3 is incredible. Over $100 to play but honestly worth it.

Yes, the Jack par 3, Top of the Rock is going to be open and will be $90 to play at the end of March! As long as weather cooperates, we'll be hitting that one up!

I've got 2 trips on the calendar and still eyeballing a possible 3rd trip. 

We are heading to Myrtle Beach in mid-May. We already have rounds booked at Caledonia, True Blue, and Blackmoor. Our son will be coming up from Atlanta for this trip.

At the end of August, my son and I are trekking out to Landmand for a couple of rounds. 

I am still eyeing a trip to Wisconsin possibly in September. A lot of good golf to choose from.

It should be a fun year. If I can finally find that extra stroke to break 80, it might be the best year ever!

I mentioned in another post, that my buddies and I decided last year to start taking annual golf trips, and not always to well known locations. Last year we went to Greensboro, NC and had a blast. Played both courses at Bryan Park, played Greensboro National, and several others. It was a great time!

This year we are going to Nashville, TN. We plan on playing both courses at the Hermitage, Greystone, and Towhee for sure. We are looking at a few others as well, and are staying just blocks from all the action in Nashville. None of us will be out partying all night, but it will be nice to experience some of the night life along with the golf. Did AirBNB and got a great deal for a nice place for significantly cheaper than a hotel or resort. The golf rates are very reasonable and the drives to the courses are fair. 

Michigan, South Carolina, Florida are all on our bucket lists. I'd like to go New York and play at Bethpage. Honestly as the years go on I don't see any location out of the realm of possibility. I'd like to do a West Coast trip and even one over to Scotland someday.

Mexico this summer to visit family, I plan on golfing a lot since "yo hablo poquito español." (I think?) Should be interesting. And in the fall I am heading to Virginia for a week and golfing with the madman that got me addicted to the game! So stoked.

When this thread first started earlier this year, I didn't have much to report. Happy to say I now I have a tee time at the end of June at Erin Hills and am currently planning a North Carolina trip.

The Erin Hills trip is just going to be for the day (about 2.5 hour drive from Chicago), but it is a definite bucket list course that I'm extremely excited to play.

The North Carolina Trip is tentatively going to consist of the following courses: Pinehurst No. 2, Mid Pines, Pine Needles and Tobacco Road. A friend of a friend works at Pinehurst and is hopefully going to hookup a tee time at No. 2 without having to stay on property. If we can't get on Pinehurst, we're going to probably try for Southern Pines instead.

It's going to be a good year for golf!

Not a golf trip but a Disney trip next week with a round of golf included. A coworker was just there and said that Magnolia was still under construction and to play either the Palm or LBV. Since were staying at the Shades of Green, were playing the Palm since it's right there.

Currently attempting to plan a Spring golf trip for me and 4 other guys. The target destination is Asheville, NC but the trip may only be two days cause one dude's job is kind of intense and we may end up somewhere a little closer to home.

Here are the places I've identified if we do go to the Asheville area, have any Spies played these courses and are they worth an 8 hour drive from DC?

Is there a specific reason you chose Asheville vs. someplace like Pinehurst area?  Pinehurst is 2 hours closer and has a lot of really nice courses.  You definitely don't need to play any of the Pinehurst courses if that's outside your price range.  Tobacco Road, Mid Pines, Southern Pines, Talamore, etc.  

Asheville itself is a pretty cool (really crowded last time I was there) area and more fun things to do outside golf vs. Pinehurst, but for golf that area will likely have really nice scenery but the golf won't be as good in general.

One of the guys suggested Asheville cause he's been there a few times and likes it. With all of us being in the Mid-Atlantic area basically anything is going to be an improvement over the crowded, beat up courses we very often play so we settled on Asheville. But now we may have to shorten the trip and may decide to go someplace closer to home.

Have a blast and take lots of pictures!

I ended up playing from the whites, which was plenty since the course was still super soggy. I was hitting the driver well but had numerous plugs in the fairway. 

Overall a great experience on both courses. Shot an 86 at Pebble and 90 at Spyglass. 

I'll try and upload my #7 at Pebble video later today. Felt good to par 6 and 7, had a 20 foot birdie putt on 7 that I barely missed.

I have a pretty good year for golf trips.  My wife and I made our yearly trip to stay with friends in Palm Springs, and got in four rounds, then drove north to play at Pebble Beach (including Spanish Bay and Spyglass Hill).  The Pebble part of the trip was at my wife's urging, I'm a lucky guy.

Then we got a surprise invitation to go to the Masters Wednesday practice round, after which we'll go spend a few days at Sea Island.

Oh, and we're going to WIlliamsburg VA to play in a VSGA event at Golden Horseshoe Monday and Tuesday.  For those who're in VA, these are good events, and at $65 per round, an outstanding deal!  I think we have five more days of VSGA golf planned this year, including two days at the Wintergreen resort.

Next up, we'll be volunteer hole marshals at the US Open at Pinehurst.  We have our villa at Talamore reserved tor about 10 or 11 days, so we'll manage to get some golf in.  I'll also be back there around Thanksgiving for two full weeks.

I think that's about it.

That's a good list. If you like abuse playing Mike Strantz courses, there's another one about an hour away, Tot Hill Farm. Talamore (Arnold Palmer design) is also a good option.

Also there are two Donald Ross courses that you can play at Pinehurst without staying on property, #1 and #3. I have played #3 and it was a blast. Short, but far from easy.

Last time I went to Pinehurst, I counted SEVEN golf courses along NC Highway 2 in the three or four miles it took to get to the Pinehurst resort after turning off US 1, including Mid Pines and Pine Needles, which are right across the road from each other. And only one of them was an actual Pinehurst course.
