What Golf Ball Are You Playing In 2024?

Love the XV! Are those the prior gen 4-piece? Have you tried the 3-piece version yet?

These are the 3 piece. I started with the divide XV and really loved that ball.

The noticeable difference for me was how the divide had a little more grit on the outer skin. Not a deterrent, it only made cleaning a little more difficult.

I've got eight dozen sitting ready to go:

  • 1 Dozen Yellow Snell MTB-X (Last box from 2021 purchase!)
  • 1 Dozen Lime Vice Pro Plus
  • 2 Dozen Yellow Srixon ZStar XV
  • 4 Dozen Yellow Maxfli Tour X

The Snell is still my favorite ball, though the XV comes close. I think the XV is the longest ball I've ever played, but I prefer the Snell on short game shots around the greens. I really enjoyed the original Tour X, these second generation ones were a Black Friday impulse purchase, hopefully they are as good as the original.

Not sure I love the Lime color of the Pro Plus (too much green and not enough yellow), but I'll probably give them a go early in the season while the ground is still more brown than green.

I'm at a crossroad with golf balls at this time. I was about to sort through all of the woods balls by brand, and just play through them this season. But seeing all the recent new releases and reviews has me itching to buy the new CTX in yellow. That was previous preferred gamer and it worked well for me.  The new Bridgestone RBX I tested also performed decently.  I'm curious about the mindset ball, but not alot of feedback from them yet, and if they are available in yellow too.

Help me Obi-Wan, you're my only hope!!! 😆

This is just me, but I have found the XV flies a little, lower and farther.  It spins a little lower for me on drives and long irons.  In terms of the Diamond, I find it spins up more on approach shots around the green,  I also find it feels a little softer on putts. Not a huge difference, but it seems discernible to me.

If I am playing a longer course on a windy day, I play the XV.  Both are great balls.  On a normal day with a premium on my short game, I usually use the Diamond.

Sounds to me like the Diamond is very similar to the original MTB-X then. I have often thought the Diamond might be a very good fit for me.

I’ve tried so many balls last season to try to find the best for my game. I had good luck with Titleist Pro V1 and used that for most of the season. I ended up trying Taylormade Tour Response and thought it fit my game really well. I’m planning to give this ball a real shot this season.

Golfing for fun.

Play golf year round in Coastal Georgia.

In the winter if it is below 60 degrees I play the Bridgestone Tour BRX ball and the rest of the year I play the Maxfli Tour ball.

The Bridgestone ball is slightly softer so it feels a little better when it is cold out.

It also spins less than the Maxfli Tour ball.  So on my approach shots the Bridgestone Tour BRX ball goes further when it it is cold out which allows me to not have to club up.

The Bridgestone ball does not check up as much as the Maxfli Tour ball around the greens and will roll out a bit more too.

I used to play the Tour BRX year round until the Ping Ballnamic fitting tool suggested the Maxfli Tour ball to me and the reviews on MyGolfSpy gave me the confidence to try it.

Prefacing by saying I have a slow (ish) swing in the 90-95mph range with irons and am very lucky if I get 105mph with my driver…I’ve been playing the Bridgestone e12 Contact all last year… this winter (in sim) I’ve been trying the 2024 TP5 & TP5x.  I can’t launch the TP5x to save my life… I get stingers , very high spin and am slicing like there’s no tomorrow 😞  The TP5 on the other hand has been a beautiful experiment so far.  I’ve gained 2-3yds per club at the long end, my driver spin is much better (lower) than it has been with the 2023 TP5/TP5x or the AVX.  Of course, on the course will be the real test!

Downside, the TP5 is $73 CAD/dozen, the e12 is $45 CAD on sale...

For the past couple of years, I've been in the Pro V1 during Summer and the Chromesoft Truvis Yellow/black during Winter, mainly as it's easier to find/see and I don't get so emotional if/when I 'mis-place' one.

At a recent iron fitting, we also played around with driver on Trackman. Feedback was that I am VERY low spin with driver (never knew that!), sub-1800rpm, which, when coupled with my low ball speed (130 mph ish) resulted in the ball setting off on a piercing flight and just falling out of the air.
The fitter recommended I try a higher spinning ball so I've moved into Pro V1x and the difference is significant through the bag, both in terms of peak height and carry, and wow do they feel great around the greens! I'll be sticking with Pro V1x for the rest of the year for sure.

Will continue, to buy them ahead of time (Dicks spend $100 specials) , and during buy two get on free's, and continue to use the Srixon XV Tour Yellow.  Being able to get them for about 33$ a dozen through the specials, its well worth the 43 cents around, given how many rounds I play, and how many I lose in a year.

I was selected to test the Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X. You can check out the review on my signature on my profile. I was really surprised by both balls. I think I will play them, I know I will play Pro V1s, and I have a bunch of OnCore Vero X1 and X2s. I really like the Chrome Tour Xs. So once I thin out my ball stash I will be playing them a lot.

Will be playing and continue to play the BS Tour B RX.  Also play the AVX's as I have a dozen I need to clear out.  And from what I've read the new TP5 and the X.  I have a test pack in route, but over the years nothing has been able to kick out the TBRX for my SS, which is 88-90mph.

I alternate between the TP5 and Vice Pro, I love the distance I get from the Vice but I feel like the TP5 has better control around the greens. I tried out the Mizuno Tour X and really liked that ball as well.

I lose too many balls and am too much of a cheapskate to shell out for premium balls.  Had been playing the maxfli straightflis but I definitely wasn't getting the results with the latest model that I had with the previous version.  So I've been playing the TP5 Practice Balls (Cosmetic blems, $70/2 dozen).  They perform much better for me and frankly I don't lose them as frequently as I did the straightfli. I've played the Maxfli Tour/Tour X in the past and really liked them so may pick up a cube of those at some point this year.

Don't be afraid of. WWW.LOSTBALLS.COM and they come in the A. AA AAA Etc and there is no need for anything past AAA I've been hitting them for years and have never gotten a bad one from them and ProV1's at 14 bucks a dozen is right up my alley

Thanks for the rec! My buddy and I were just talking last round about picking up some used ProV's so glad to hear about a reputable site to get them from and especially that we won't need to go top-level to get quality balls. For that price, I will definitely check them out.

Yeah they are not bleached and all are up totally nothing wrong with them and also no need to buy the 5A I did and the difference from 5A to 3A was not enough for me to pay an extra 1.50 a ball. They have every major brand and model

Try the Odin X. Equivalent in price to what you are paying now. And performance is equal to top premium balls. Check the reviews here on the forum. We did a test back around the early part of the year. Great ball. I’m sure you’ll love it.

Forgot to mention with the Odin there is also a loyalty program where you can get a credit towards your next purchase.  That helps lower the price point.
