Nice looking putter (though I prefer mallets myself). Interesting to see how it compares to the AI One.

I'm not sure it will be an even comparison.  This putter is a solid head with a milled face. I will definitely compare the performance and distance between the 2.

Lovely looking club - definitely interested to see what you think. I feel the newcomer club manufacturers have been doing well with irons and getting there with wedges but I am still unsure on how they do with putters given there's so much precision involved/required. Keen to hear how you go!

I will be using it tomorrow and putting with it using the same processes I did with the AI-ONE DB test.

Got 1 full round down today, and practiced about 75 putts.

Took alot of restraint for me not to pull the DB out on the course. 😬🫢

However, there was Zero 3 putts on the course!!!

Thanks man! As a former resident of the white mountains, I do miss the scenery, and lack of deadly critters! 😆 🤣 😂

I'm finishing up a few things with the putter and will have a review here shortly!

But as a teaser, this is me sinking a 50' putt yesterday.

  • Rob Person changed the title to Lombardi putters - unofficial review and test.

So while I have procrastinated slightly on writing this review, I did want to make sure I gave it my undivided attention and the most thorough testing possible.

Without further adeux, my review is posted above!

-----> LOMBARDI PUTTERS <----

I plan on practicing a little with it next week. Having just come off of the AI-ONE putter test, I feel I have a good foundation for testing this one out.

A little back story.

I didnt know much about this putter or the company Lombardi other than regularly seeing posts on Instagram show up in my feed. I began following the page, and over the course of a few weeks, quickly realized Paul (the owner) is the real deal. He was having giveaways all time for the different styles of putters he has. (He has quite a few!) But beyond the giveaways, he was connecting with people on a down to earth level. We exchanged a few messages, I shared a few of his posts, even had a live conversation over a digital call. Then one day I come home and there is a package waiting for me. When I opened it and saw it was this putter, I was in shock!  We exchanged another phone call and couldn't believe he did this, other than him saying I seemed like a good guy, i had no explanation. He told me he appreciated me as a person, and was someone who he thought deserved it. I still couldn't believe it.  All he asked was my honest review and thoughts in return. Nothing more. I did tell him about MGS too. Maybe he joined?

Onto the review. This is my first experience with a milled face putter too!

FIRST IMPRESSION- 10/10

Right out of the box this putter is fantastic to look at. The milled face, the company etched logo, the grip, and a premium embroidered magnetic cover. It has a 1 piece plumbers neck hosel forged into the head.

It was double bubble wrapped at the head and grip,  insuring its protected through the shipping process.

20240209_182752.jpg.2af8965453e8d971862c0079d8e6a7e1.jpg20240209_182641.jpg.1924f4566970b233e315cb9f33ca8903.jpg20240209_182914.jpg.9bce904bfcec40b7efec2c2a2a8465c1.jpg20240209_182534.jpg.aae7110548bdf017d0fe392b98f8c931.jpg

I've had the opportunity to put this putter through its paces on several practice sessions, and for a total of 63 holes. (3x18, 1x9) and also on my indoor rollout mats.

https://youtube.com/shorts/-Wswrt04vQ0?si=43LE3ULE7z8SXejy

PRACTICE- 9/10

During practice sessions on the course area,  I felt I was in sync with the putter after about 5 strokes. It is a heavier putter, therefore shots under 6' just required a light push towards your line to move the ball. On every putt there is a distinct "click" letting you know contact was made, no matter how hard or easy you swing the putter. The practice area green rolls on average between a 10-12 Stimp, so they are fast! I struggled with the short putts the most. Only making 6 out of 10 the first time. Putts from 8-12' was only a slight increase in pressure to move the ball, barely a medium stroke on uphill putts from this distance. My downhill putts was just a matter of pushing the ball where I wanted it to go! I was 8 out of 10 on putts over 10'.  I even rolled a few 50-70' foot putts into the drain with ease. I attribute this to it being a very dense putter.

20240219_112248.jpg.f92f3df276fdece54e78765c8c121382.jpg

Lag putting was a huge success in my opinion,  as 90% of the putts were within 2' or less of the cup,  putting from 20'-30'

ON COURSE- 9/10

There is something to be said for a putter that instills a bit of confidence when you pull it out of the bag. 70% of my putts were downhill for some reason, and like the practice areas, they are faaaaasst!!! While I didn't track every putt on every round, I did track 2 rounds. 18 holes I was 6 x1 putts, 11 x2 putts,  1 x3 putt. On my 3rd round I was 8 x 1putts, 10 x 2 putts. On the uphill putts the ball and putter connected well, doing exactly as I had intended with each roll. Several of the downhill putts were over 12', and my only 3 putt was a downhill roll that I misjudged the break and ended up over 10' past the hole. I was able to get it back within 8" of the cup. Downhill putts are tricky with this putter (for me)

DURABILITY & FINISH- 10/10

I have definitely put the Lombardi through its paces. There is zero sign of fatigue on the face milling,  and no scratches on the edges or bottom.

VideoCapture_20240220-181326.jpg.c71044b7e23b382421df9d00a77e7aa0.jpgVideoCapture_20240220-181315.jpg.c45d4fe86ec0c3157b55f6cd09bf5604.jpg

IN THE BAG or OUT?

If I was in the market for a new putter that looked and performed as well as this, and had the price point it does,  it would definitely be in the bag.  But to be completely honest,  I can't replace the DB with the Lombardi. They are 2 completely different types of putters, but the DB checks all my boxes... for now.

One of the most valuable things I was able to take away from this, is that you can successfully sink putts, no matter what putter you are using, from the $100 unknown company to the $1000 limited edition rarity,  as long as that putter is designed well!

I posted the link above for his website.  But check him out on Instagram for the most up-to-date happenings!

Paul, if you are reading this, thank you for the opportunity to share this with everyone here. It is a remarkable putter for sure. I feel truly blessed to know you ! Looking forward to what you have coming next!

Fyi, for those who see my stories in IG land, you see that I love to promote small businesses, up and coming persons, etc,  and I love to watch them succeed. It's not about free stuff for me, it's more than that, alot more!!! (Perhaps a story for another day)

VideoCapture_20240220-181052.jpg

Great review from top to bottom. I remember that first IG post with the putter and the aesthetic is just so good. That being said, knowing that it is also a helluva product on the course makes it all the sweeter.

I am curious to hear more about purchasing a Lombardi putter, what would that be like?

On the website it doesn’t seem there are any set designs just a random assortment of premade putters. Would they do any customization or adjusting of a putter for you? Or is this similar to some other DTC, what you see is what you get.

Hey, very cool review, @Rob Person. The writing has good flow, and I like the story of how you came to have the putter in your hands.

When you say that it’s a heavier putter, what are you comparing it to? Your AI One? I think you have a double wide, is that right?

Personally, I’m a fan of bold headers. They’re just easier to spot.

Thanks for sharing that! I’ll look you up on IG some time. 😉

I haven't weighed it yet, but by heavier, it's more dense in the putter head itself.  Amd thanks for the feedback!

Wow - great review @Rob Person!  I'm a sucker for Anser style putters and this blue-dot ticks those marks.  How do you like the "action" of the milled face as compared to the white hot of DB?  For me, with "Millie", it was a marked difference for sure, which I noted in the AI-One Milled test I was part of.  When you spoke of how "heavy" the head felt, I was taken back to my old White Steel #5 mini-mallet which had a "heavy" head.  Took a different touch for sure.  Going to definitely start checking Lombardi putters out on IG.  Keep 'em rolling, bro!

It's a completely different putter for sure. The milled face is new to me. I continue to practice with it on the indoor mats. Bring it to the course too for mess around rounds. You definitely notice the connection sound on impact (not in a bad way) it's very firm. Putts under 8' do not take alot to move the ball. Over 8' is just learning the dynamic of Stroke speed.

a solid face across the putter means you have to use a more even/stable stroke too. (Again, not a bad thing)

I think I was one of the last to get this particular putter lineup, as he's moved on to newer and more unique designs.

I love the look of these putters! Hopefully soon I’ll get my hands on one and try to do a review on here. I’d love to see these in the mygolfspy reviews for sure!

I have a cobra rad speed driver, cobra fly z 3 and 5 wood, taylormade m1 irons (5-PW), Top Flite Gamer wedges (52,56,60), and odyssey white ice putter. When I’m playing to keep score I typically play the Maxfli Tour X. When just getting a round in with friends or scrambling I play whatever I might find on the course or might find at the bottom of my bag.

There are a few members that have one of the Lombardi putters

My recent custom build was on a pre-release Lomabrdi Tour34 putter head. (Will be available soon on the Customs part of the site)

Since the last time I posted here, The putter style options available are growing!

From kids putters to wild customization options. Paul (the owner) has partnered with WedgeF/X for engraving,  etching,  painting, coating,  etc.  Some of his work is insane!  (I suggest looking up the wedgeFx freedom putter on Instagram)

I plan on putting the DB head to head with the Tour34 soon too.

Great review!

I've just come across this topic and I'm quite interested by these putters. Even when converted to Canadian dollars, they still offer a very good price point. I've entered the draw for the left-handed putter giveaway. Given my background in baseball(heavier bat), I tend to prefer heavier golf equipment.  I’m drooling over the website as I type this. 😂

PXG 0211

15* Taylormade Sim 2 max

18* hybrid (Taylormade)

22* hybrid (Adams)

25* hybrid (Tour edge)

irons - Callaway Big Bertha 2002 (It's a long story!)

Putter - Odyssey AI one 2 ball DB 35¨
