TPT Golf Shafts - 2024 Forum Review

I have always fought having too much spin which was attributed to -AOA in years past and, I feel, is still somewhat an issue although improved. When fitted last year I chose to stay with Titleist for two reasons: 1. I love the classic style of their drivers and fairway woods and 2. Others tested just didn't set up well to my eyes. Performance was approximately equal among all so opted for the TSR 1 in a 9* delofted to 8.25* and standard lie.

This setup coupled with the Fujikawa Ventus Blk 6 S shaft helped get the spin numbers down into the mid to upper 2K range and opened the face just enough to combat my tendency to hook the ball. 

Other than the issue of dispersion, I am not overly fond of the lower trajectory ball flight related to this combination. On the rare occasion I am able to produce a +AOA of 4 or 5 degrees I get an increase of 15 - 20 yards in improved carry.

I am really looking forward to seeing what Jon and the TPT shafts can do to help resolve this ongoing battle.

After some practice this weekend I am reminded how my consistency of strike with driver is much worse then my irons. This has me even more impatient for this test to start since this is one the main claims with these shafts

Two more wake-ups before my fitting and there has been a slight modification to the chosen clubs. Gone is the Ping G425LST 3 wood. She has been replaced with the Ping G430MAX 3w. 

I rounded up some old clubs and went to 2nd Swing in Dallas (Area). Rhett fixed me up and after some haggling we reached an affordable agreement.

As luck (unluck) would have it, one of my drivers was in an accident last night so sleep was not really an option. Then the mad dash (150 mile round trip) to 2nd Swing, pretty much will ensure I’ll sleep tonight. 
 

Oops, today is Thursday, not Friday. So it is 3 more wake-ups. That’s how tired I am right now. I forgot what day it is.

My mistake. Should have clarified that my driver accident was an employee (truck driver) accident. It was clear in my mind, but I forget not everyone has 25+ drivers. 24 that drive trucks and 1 or more that drive golf balls. 

My golf ball driver is still the Ping G430 LST. Now I have the G430 MAX 3w. I stuck with the G425 3 hybrid because I don’t think there is enough difference to justify that upgrade. If the 3 wood would have been the MAX, I wouldn’t have made the change.

In anticipation of my fitting I’ve started up my swing speed training with the Stack System again.  Have also been walking 9 holes two or three times each week using my Bag Boy Quad XL cart and Alphard V2 wheels.

A week and a half to go!

Also have been spending some time reading everything I can on the TPT shafts and spent some time this week on the golfshaftreviews.com site to look at the information on each shaft that I’ll be testing and also the shafts that I’m playing currently.  Noticed some interesting similarities.

Here’s how the TPT Nitro HI and Power Range HI Driver shafts look.

Compared to the Diamana GT (the current generation of the Diamana ZF that I have)

 

The Power Range HI and the Diamana GT have pretty similar bend profiles.

Compared to the Graphite Design Tour AD DI which is in my fairway wood now.

 

Admittedly it is hard to compare the graphs since the scale is not included but the general shape of the bend profiles are similar.

Finally the TPT Power Range HI & LO hybrids:

Versus the Fujikura Fuel Hybrid shaft that I’ve played for a long time.

Since the hybrid I play, the Cobra LTDx, has a bonded hosel I have purchased a second one to receive the TPT Hybrid shaft.  

My test and review of the hybrid shaft will include results from both.  Will try to build to the same specs so that the only difference is the shaft for comparisons sake.

@Hoyoymac Nice posts, I have not seen any EI graphs of the TPT shafts. I have a Tour AD DI and TP in my driver and 5 wood so interesting to see. I have also been trying an Accra TZ6 in the driver which is a very different EI profile from the DI and do very similar with both. Can't wait to see what John fits me into with the TPT range.

Interestingly the TPT Nitro Hi shafts have two distinct bend profiles with the transition occurring at the 16 HI.  So with the Nitro LO there are three bend profiles in the Nitro range.

The Power Range LO also have different bend profiles to their respective HI counterparts across the Driver, Fairway wood and hybrid shafts.
