My team consisted of myself and two other golfers of around my skill level and one who plays to a 4 handicap. The other group consisted of a guy that shoots in the mid 80's, one in the mid 90's, and two guys who can both stripe the ball but are newer to golf. We ended up tying with 67. The running thought leading up to the competition was that Vince, our low handicap, would pretty much carry the team, but we all contributed to the team. I actually parred a par 3 with just my shots. Had a couple of short pitch shots we used along with putts. Overall, my driver needs work, my irons are not too good right now, I need a lot of work on my chips, and my putter is a strength. I was just happy to get out today and play a new to me course. Nice round and looks like it was a perfect day for some golf. gavinski91
1 hour ago, PrismFlopper said: I see the arccos. Question how exactly does it keep track of the differences between like a practice swing or the actual shot? O saw they sell the censor pack and was interested but wasnt sure what the deal is with that? Sensor on your clubs are bluetooth and turn on when the club is right-side-up (they turn off when the club is upside-down in your bag), all they do is tell your phone (or the Arccos Link if you use it) that you're holding the club. Your phone uses its internal GPS to determine your location, and then uses it mic to listen for when you hit a shot (so sometimes it will miss really soft chips or flop shots out of the rough that don't make much noise). It will also automatically disregard if you take multiple shots from the same location and only count one of them (so if you take a penalty and re-hit, you will have to manually add penalty strokes). Only time I have issues (outside of the missed shots I mention) is if I take multiple clubs out of my bag - say to a tee box that is up some stairs, bring three clubs and the rangefinder, leave two clubs leaning up against a bench, and the phone might pick up the wrong one. It's really easy to change clubs and add penalty strokes or missed shots in the app after the fact though. Popular Post Swood1994
Boy was it a hot one today . My game is close but still on the outside looking in. Couple of silly mistakes makes for a shaky but respectable round. The ball was flying far today with the heat/humidity. The driver was on point and I was not missing a fairway. Farthest drive of the day was ~335. Like I said the ball was flying. The short game was another story. I had a couple chunked pitch shots and missed putts. I started out +3 thru 3 and then clawed back and played the last 6 holes even par for a 39. Overall pretty happy but still a lot of work to do. alii1959
Returned from my trip to Tennessee and Texas to play my home course. Played 4 rounds in Texas...unremarkable (had never seen the courses before, average 83....hot and blustery). Today, I played my home course (West Lake CC and repeated my usual performance, as of late. I couldn't make a recovery putt to save my life on the front nine. I was close, at times, but no joy. I was spraying my driver quite a bit and slopped it around for a +7 43. On the back, however, I hit all the fairways and most of the greens. The green speeds today weren't as quick as usual, but they were fast enough. I had 3 bogies on the back. Stepping up to 17, a par 3 over water, I attempted to fade a 9i into the pin about 141 yds away. I was able to stick it to 3 feet. Made the putt. Back to 2 over for the back 9. 18 is a longish par five with an uphill tee shot and a large pond in front of an elevated green. As usual, I attempted to lay up to around 100yds to give me a nice wedge shot into the three tiered green. The pin was on the middle tier. My lay up left me with 92yds to the pin. Stuck it to 3 feet. Made the putt. Back to one over for the nine...for a smooth 80. I can't seem to get both nines going at the same time. Either one stinks or the other. But, at least today I was patient and kept "doing what I do" and it kinda worked out. Had I not had a 3 putt on the front I would have been back in the 70s. Tomorrow the battle with par recommences! Popular Post russtopherb
Shot a 47/47 for a 94 today at Acushnet River Valley GC. I had one birdie and 3 pars, but too many blow up holes, including an 8 on a par 4 thanks to two lost balls. The wind was insane for a while, where all 4 of us actually had putts pushed offline on the same green. My driver let me down for part of the round, I haven't sliced the ball OOB off the tee all season but it happened 3 times today. I'm gonna blame all that on the wind 22% GIR, 50% FIR, and I averaged 1.9 putts per hole. I think a workout plus a long bike ride in the muggy heat this morning drained me as I was pretty fatigued by the 12th hole. I had plenty of water and electrolytes but I was definitely dragging at the end. All good though, it was a fun time with a good friend and a very friendly father & son duo we were paired up with. Popular Post EnderinAZ
Had a decent round today. It was hot and pretty windy. Face directly into the wind and it was a two clubber. Need a nine iron? Better use a 7 because the wind is going to knock it down. Anyway the front side I shot a 35 one under par. Best on that nine so far. On the back, the 18th, I hit my drive to a drainage slot through the fairway that drains the monsoon rains from the street into a pond. So the mowers have avoiding this spot because of a sprinkler leak. The grass was DEEP. I power pulled my shot left and it bounced out of bounds (). The hole finished with a 7 and 43 on the back (par 37). So I was happy with the 78, but really had to grind my way around the course. JAYER38
Really frustrating game this can be! Played 18 yesterday on a new course so wasn't familiar with the layout or placement of anything. Alot of shorter par 4's that were dog legs made me question using driver and I ended up OB a good amount of the time trying to play some creative shot I don't have any business trying haha. Either way ended up shooting a 105(don't judge me). But I never backed down from aggressive play which I obviously should have with spraying the ball off the Tee and not being able to make good contact with my hybrids. I tend to take games like this as a learning deal on just trying new shots to expand my game and see how they come out. Short game actually left something to be desired as I didn't convert U&Ds. I had two birdies on #13 & #18. #13 is a short par 5, but I got a little help from the cart path and it's always fun to go driver-9 iron on a par 5. ce05krug
Much better than my previous round and overall one of my better rounds. I limited my mulligans and opted to play my less than ideal shot, which allowed me to use some mid irons that typically get passed over. I tried to focus on slowing down off the tee, which benefitted the majority of my shots. Stuka44
Played Hemlock Springs in Geneva yesterday, and this past Saturday. All in All was very happy. 80 Saturday, and 84 Yesterday. 160 putts(@ 40 at a time) or so a week in the basement is really starting to pay off. Had 29 putts, Saturday, and 30 putts yesterday. edingc
One of those weeks. Over my last three 18s, I've had 10 birdies but unfortunately have paired them with five double bogies . Did play in a scramble yesterday and had several natural pars and two natural birdies, so that was fun. It's a good reminder of how much progress I've made in my game when I shoot 77, 79, 79 and feel like I should have been 3-5 shots better each round. I was two under making the turn during the 77, so to go 7 over on the back hurt a bit! It will be nice when the heat subsides a little as it's been HOT even playing in the mornings. Popular Post MattWillGolf
Just carded my best 9 ever of 46 which included a par on the toughest hole on the course. (Which I am even happier about. ) The round included three pars. It is the simple things in life. I was incredibly pleased with how I struck my irons. I only lost one ball. It was on the first hole. I found a Pro V1 while searching for my lost ball and proceeded to finish the round with the found Pro V1. Which is another cause for celebration. gavinski91
Quick 9 holes after work with my brother yesterday. A blow-up 9 on the par 4 first (didn't have a range on the course), but mostly pulled it together after that and went 7-over the rest of the way. Highlight was the 9th hole, where I hit my 5-iron better than expected all the way to the back of the green (with a front pin) and somehow still managed to make a par. Popular Post StrokerAce
took me 2 and a half rounds to figure out why I was all over the place with my irons .... and it was relatively simple - my arms and hands were too slow and deliberate. started speeding them up and things clicked into place and shot a 39 on the back after 43 on the front. had a nice birdie on a long uphill par 5. hard to show the slope on this but it was about 3 feet and I had to play it at least a cup out to the left and it barely caught the right edge. there isn't a straight putt on this green. Popular Post alii1959
Well, Par beat the *&%$%^ out of me today.....I hate this foul game. Used a different putter today...the one I normally used was in time-out for today. Putted like crap. It is probably back in the bag tomorrow. I started off out. Had two bogies and a double on the front...mostly due to horrible second shots. Then I got bogged down behind a tournament. (Apparently, the slowest member of our club was in the group I found myself behind.) I don't play well when I have to play slow. Waited on every single shot. (As an aside; do not take 10 practice swings before every shot when you simply shank it into the woods every time. The practice swings won't help. Further, no need to plumb bob each put that misses anyhow. Hit the ball....move along. In addition, don't complain about the group ahead of you when they run off and leave you behind. When this happens the slow play is your fault.) It took just over 4 hours to play 18 holes. They weren't even walking. I was! Also, walk like you have a purpose in life between the cart and the ball...this isn't a sight-seeing trip! Rant over! The back 9 was awful. I shot 6 over on the back, missed nearly every putt. Wound up with a heroic (not!!!) 81. I lost this battle. I let circumstances cramp my efforts. Tomorrow the war continues!!! Par must die!!! cnosil
League night and not the greatest round. Struggled off the tee and only hit 2 fairways and had 2 3 putts. Shot a 4 over 40. The really good thing is that I believe I have figured out short game shots after 3 years. Got to the course early and everything just clicked. Had a few short game shots during the round and I executed them very well. Indy_Oz
League tonight (9-holes). After shooting solid 39s (+3) the last two weeks, I shot a 40 (+4) but was on target for a better score until I doubled the last (1st hole, started on 2) after hooking the driver into trees and having to hack out of a ditch for my 2nd shot.Doh! Plenty of positives from the round overall. Putting was decent again. Not amazing, but 16 putts so average below 2.0 per hole. No 3-putts. Highlights: 1. 155yd 9-iron to 7ft. Should have a shout at closest to the pin (fingers firmly crossed). 2. This 249yd 3-wood tee shot to 12-14ft, up hill. Pitch mark on the green was at 242yds. I've come close to hitting the green before, but always fallen either side or short. Best struck 3-wood I've hit and I was over the moon to land on the green. View from tee box. Very happy to be playing with some consistency. Just some small things to work on. TJ Hall, cksurfdude, IndyBonzo and 6 others 6 3 Quote 2024 WITB: Driver: Ai Smoke Max 9* (@8*) w. PrismFlopper
Played 9 on a par 3 cause I’ve really been struggling off the tee on par 3s. Got 4 pars and the rest bogeys. I think I hit like maybe 3 greens off the tee. Something about the tee has been making me hit it short. Guess it’s time to work on that area. Used to be pretty good on par 3s but stopped practicing them when I really started working on the driver. Ohhh how this game kills me IndyBonzo, Dweed, cksurfdude and 4 others 6 1 Quote Been playing for about 2 years in total. Winter breaks and a 6month period when I got sick. Starting to feel like myself again and recently played a “okay” round. I currently have custom fit Cobra LTDx irons/wedges, a Vokey 60(cause my short game has been the best part of my game, and a Maverick 9 deg. Driver. Driving is the worst part of my game so My 4 iron usually takes alot of the long game abuse.
MDGolfHacker
I can't seem to recapture the swing and putter stroke I had a few weeks ago. First hole the drive actually went straight , pulled the approach shot right of the pin and hit a wedge a little too far but had a makeable par putt. Didn't factor enough of the slope and walked off with a bogey. Second hole - straight pulled the drive right OB. Tee'd another one up straight down the middle. Approach shot came up short and putting woes still continued on this beast of a par 5. Walked off with a triple bogey. The wheels really started to fall off the rest of the round. Only one other lost ball on a tight par 3 with water guarding on the left side of a narrow green. Putting and approaches did me in this 9 hole round and the recovery game was stuck in neutral. Back to more range work or a lesson to see what's going on with the swing. Rob Person, TJ Hall, edingc and 5 others 8 Quote What's In This Lefty's Bag? Mike10487
Played my favorite track in Western NC, Connestee Falls. I wasn't expecting a whole lot because my swing has felt off and these are the hardest greens to read for me. I met and older gentleman on the practice green who gave me a tip on how to use my feet here and it really helped. Went out in a ho hum 38. The swing felt off, but I was getting it around ok, I was getting up and down from anywhere. 2i off the tee on 10 missed the fairway 6" right and drew the worst lie ever. Grass was so thick it shut the face down and I pulled it 30 yds left for a bogey. Birdied 11 after laying up off the tee with a 5i. Four straight pars left me well in range of a PB at this course. I guess this is when I told me that I had a good round going. 3 jacked 16 for a bogey. 17 par 3 playing 167 slightly downhill and into the wind. I figured a punch 7i was the club and I absolutely nutted it. It hit 8' past the pin and bounced down the hill 45 yds past. Needless to say, I was happy with the double bogey. Bogeyed 18 after missing a 5' put to set my new mark. Oh well. It was a wonderful day. 78 with 33 putts Stuka44, sirchunksalot, Rob Person and 5 others 6 2 Quote Incredible recovery shots are set up by an equally incredible miss.
