Watching them on TV hem and haw, look to the trees, throw grass clippings, etc. often has me muttering "oh, just hit the damn ball will ya" - one's got to play in the stuff to truly appreciate how challenging it is. A few of my 4i shots yesterday felt like I was hitting stone. In fact I thought I had broken my club it felt so odd. I guess even "tour balls" eventually feel like hockey pucks at freezing temps. MattF
Shot an 88 yesterday but it felt better than it was. Realised that I was stretching too far with my driver swing on the last few holes of the back 9, got a bit closer to the ball and was hitting it a lot better. I played with Luigi, a guy I've played with a few time before and an Asian husband and wife that are members and we had a very pleasant round. tony@CIC
As much complaining as I do about the weather I do have to compliment the weather gods for this past weekend. It doesn't get any better than this: Low to mid 70's no humidity and no wind !. After a long weekend at my son's house with little sleep (we were dog sitting their puppies), we got home late Sunday aft and immediately ran out to play 9. Neither one of us played well (I shot my handicap), but the scenery and weather was awesome. Popular Post MaxEntropy
In case you didn't see it in the Happy Thread, my friend had entered a radio station contest for The Open - he was the last caller they took and they gave him the "field". Thankfully Shane Lowry was the field. He won a trip for 2 to Myrtle Beach with 4 nights lodging and 3 rounds of golf, so our only expenses were travel, food, and any extra golf. They put us up in the Barefoot Resort and we had a list of courses to choose from. We figured since we were at the resort, we might as well play their courses and save ourselves some driving, after all, all their courses are pretty highly rated. All three course were in outstanding shape, in my opinion, and we have no regret picking these three courses over the other options. The staff was great everywhere, although there was some miscommunication between the clubhouse and starter at the Dye course that led to a pretty good delay getting started, but ultimately it was no big deal. Day 1 - Pete Dye Course: The morning was really rainy, but fortunately they were able to move our tee time to after lunch. The only downside was the wind kicked up after the rain rolled through. I don't really know how hard it was blowing but it was every bit of a two club wind, occasionally more. (25-30 mph?) I really enjoyed the course, my friend not so much. Accuracy was rewarded and lack of accuracy was really penalized and in general I was hitting the ball pretty well, he was not. I ended up with a 91 and was thrilled with that score given the weather. I was also struck that a lot of the tee shots were very intimidating visually, but not as difficult as they appeared. A few pics.... Day 2 - Tom Fazio Course: In my opinion, of the three courses we played, this was probably the nicest looking. I didn't play particularly well - nothing really awful, but nothing great. Scrambled around for another 91 but didn't feel that great. According to the cards, Dye course was a couple strokes harder/higher slope so I can see not being thrilled with the same score, especially given the really good weather conditions. Some pics.... The slope from the back tier to front was probably about 5 feet. We tried a couple putts from there just to see if it was possible to stop the ball near the hole. It wasn't. Day 3 - Davis Love III Course: I had played this course once before about 6-8 years ago but actually remembered very little about it. It was another beautiful course. It's slope and rating made it the hardest course we played. The greens seemed really small and there a lot of elevated/crowned greens, making GIR's difficult for us. I had by far my best driving day with, 12/14 FIR, but struggled to capitalize even though I was hitting my irons solid. I ended up with an 89 and birdied the 18th to do that. Other than that I had 2 pars, 2 doubles and everything else was a bogey. I was very happy with the way I played 18. I was trying not put much pressure on myself, but I knew exactly where I stood and really wanted to shoot 90 or better. I made 4 good shots when I needed them - 3w off the tee, 3w to the fat area of the lay-up zone, a knock-down PW to 10 feet, and made the swinging downhill putt. Pics.... Day 4 - Diamondback Golf Course: As we were packing up we decided to check GolfNow for any deals that were somewhat on our way out of town and found a deal for $20 to play 9. The course was pretty nice - comparable to a lot of the decent muni's we play. I certainly wouldn't be mad if I had to play there more. I struggled off the tee here, but hit my irons decently, ending up with a 44, making pars on the last three holes. In general, I was pretty pleased with the way I putted, given how different the greens were than anything we are used to (grain!), averaging less than 2 putts per hole over all 63 holes, but chipping was rough. We both sucked chipping, even when the lies were good. The ball checked up a whole lot more than we were used to and it seemed too easy to either skull the ball or end up stabbing a wedge into the turf. I'm guessing the bounce of our wedges was completely wrong for this turf? Also, we expected to lose some distance at sea level. I think we figured out it amounted to about a club or maybe less with irons, but the difference was huge off the tee. According to Arccos, my average was about 30 yards shorter! Maybe it was because the courses were playing softer, I don't know, but it made for longer approaches than we were expecting after scouting the rounds with Arccos Caddie. At any rate, we had a great time on a great trip that was the right price! I accidentally posted this before I actually finished, so substantial editing has happened. downlowkey, sirchunksalot, edingc and 10 others 11 2 Quote Driver: Epic Speed 9* (set -1) MMT 70X 3W: Tour B JGR Recoil 760ES 3H, 4H: Tour B JGR 19*, 23* Recoil 780ES 4-AW: Tour B JGR HF2 Modus3 Tour 105 SW: RTX Zipcore Black Satin 54* LW: TAIII Black 58* Putter: Scottsdale TR Senita Bag: BigMax Dri Active Lite Ball: TP5x or AVX (yellow) Pushcart: BigMax iQ+ Testing Complete, Final Review Posted: Sub70 TAIII Forged Wedges

Popular Post HardcoreLooper
Played River Marsh in Cambridge, MD at the end of our quarterly meeting with my boss's boss and two low handicap sales reps. Nice course, but very wet, lying hard against the Chesapeake Bay. Front nine was a scramble, and my team underachieved at -4 (I was the C player), but no team scored well, so we took that. We played our own balls on the back, where I managed a nifty little 38 and got into the pocket of one of the reps. Overall a nice day. I was up in the Cascades exploring waterfalls yesterday and was wishing my clubs were in the truck especially when I stopped in to Tokatee to take a peak. tony@CIC, cksurfdude, Kenny B and 1 other 4 Quote DRIVER: Cobra F9 10.5 Tensei AV Blue 65g 3W- Callway XR PRO 16 stiff 5W- Alpha- Mitsubishi Diamana Redboard w/band Irons- Mizuno JPX 919 Tours with S KBS Tour shafts Hyrbid- TM 4h mid-rescue Vokey- Vokey SM5 51 degrees, SM7 Wedges 54 and 58 1/2 half 3 degrees upright Putter- Taylor Made Rossa Monza Mini Spider Ball-ProV1 and AVX

Popular Post mr.hicksta
Post work 9 at Navy Marine with @yungkory. 41, 22% GIR, 29% FIR and 13 putts. It was my first time playing in almost 3 weeks since I tweaked my back lifting so all in all I’m pretty pleased. There weren’t many ‘WTF’ shots and my chipping was surprisingly good. Looking forward to playing 18 this weekend! Beenin Oregon 53 years and drove through Marcola for the first time in September. Drove fom 126 to Brownsville basically on some back road. Loved that Marcola area. Drove the seasonal hwy 242 from hwy 126 to Sisters the other day and was in awe. How had I never been that? Super cool area! Even if that dosen't happen, you and the arrows are going to be looking good! 15 hours ago, Kenny B said: Spent the morning with my True Spec fitter Jason in Bend Oregon.
