JerryB
Son and I went out to River Heights yesterday and my run of (relatively) good golf continues. First time we've ever played in windy conditions and it showed. It took us a little while to get used to things and we lost a ton of balls. Things were wacky so we didnt count drops and such, so I shot a "95" but it was probably more like a 110 or so. The wind was a factor; I drove with one for 279 yards, an outlier by my normal standards, while he managed to get under one into the wind for about 60 yards, LOL. Like an idiot, I made mention how we were putting pretty well and then proceeded to four putt on consecutive holes. Overall, though, played pretty well. I'm getting fewer and fewer mis-hits every round which is leading to everything being more enjoyable. My game from green to about 75 yards is pretty bad, and overall my shots tend to be off-line, but compared my game even a month ago, I'm thrilled by my progress. edingc, cnosil, cksurfdude and 4 others 7 Quote Cobra Aerojet Max driver Cobra Aerojet Max 3 wood and 7 wood Cobra Aerojet 4/5/6 hybrids Cobra Aerojet 7-PW, GW Cobra Snakebite 52° and 58° wedges Cobra King Stingray 20 putter

Popular Post Kenny B
Somehow I injured my right shoulder early this last week, then aggravated it by trimming bushes. I played today and couldn't get my driver working on the front nine. Shot 45 (+8). Bad hits hurt, so I kept saying to myself "Don't do that!" Well, that doesn't work. On #10 I just put a smooth swing on it, and best drive so far... par. Same on #11... par. Game started to come around, mostly because my short game improved. I did have another poor drive on #16, but saved par with a close pitch shot. Bogeyed #18 after a decent drive. Shot 36 (+1) for an 81 for this wounded golfer. Had a solid round tee to green, and wound up putting in 3 birdies for the first time in a long time. My 84 gross, net 70 was enough to win the day and take home the championship prize money. cnosil
Beautiful day today; 75 and a little breezy. Started off a little slow as I hit only 1 green and 1 FW through the first 7 holes. Most of the approach shots were just off the green; tee shots weren't horrible as most allowed for approaches to the green. Overall I was happy with the way I hit the ball. This was the second week trying heads up putting and I like the results I am seeing. ncwoz
Played at a really difficult nearby course that's probably the most demanding on your ball striking around me - and we had steady 15mph winds with gusts and random dead spots. Popular Post sirchunksalot
I want to send a special thank you to @Tom the Golf Nut for hosting me today at his golf course. We've been talking about getting together again, and he messaged me saying the weather was going to be beautiful. I made the trip to NE Tennessee and had a great time playing a beautiful course. I didn't keep score, and that was the plan. Getting a practice round in with Tom was both fun and educational. We spent time after the round on his course's chipping green and he helped work on my short game. I will say that the course boasted one of my favorite tee shots of all time, a tight, hilly par 5 that requires pin point accuracy to get off of. I don't have that in my arsenal, but it was so pretty to look at. I can't say I played my best, but it was fun just going around the course with Tom and talking golf and life. I told him he's my lucky charm, as each of the rounds we've played together I've had the only two chip ins I've had this year. After the round, Tom was kind enough to set me up with his local pro for my first ever lesson! A couple of tweaks to set-up and initiating the downswing and he had me hitting better shots than I've seen all year. I'll cover this on more detail on my swing quest thread. Tom, thank you again for having me up. JerryB
Played Tanna Farms in Geneva with my son and my dad. This was by far the most demanding course I've ever played. Accuracy is key; I already don't have that and it was really windy out. All in all, just a garbage round. What's that saying? Two steps forward, twelve steps back? That was me today. Chunking the heck out of lots of shots, couldn't control anything. Stopped keeping score partway through. As you can see, consistency was the name of my game today! We played from tees a little too far back; my dad hasn't gotten the memo that he's not nearly as long as he used to be. None of us played great although my son played pretty decent. My dad's a pretty good putter and holed a few from pretty far out. My putting was about the only thing that was relatively good for me, too. We sucked, but we all had a great time. 12/10 would go right back and do it again! Kenny B
Another round with the sore shoulder today, and it mirrored yesterdays round. It took 9 holes before I hit a decent drive. Mondays are the days that the maintenance crew mows the rough, and with it being cooler at night and lots of irrigation, the rough is 3-4 inches. Not what you want at a muni on the weekend. Since I wasn't driving the ball well, I was in the rough a lot on the front nine. It was hard to find balls just a few feet off the fairways. Hitting out of the rough was also not good on my sore shoulder!! Two doubles and a triple sealed my fate as I shot a miserable 44. Drives were still working on the back nine, but started out bogey, bogey, double on holes 10-12, and I thought "Here we go again!" However, I managed to par the rest of the back nine. So, 39 for a round of 83, but overall I felt I played better than yesterday, but killed myself on those four bad holes. Not planning on playing the next few days... probably. Popular Post MWL_9
Just got back from a week vacation with my wife in OCMD. I got two rounds in. The first was at Rum Pointe (gorgeous course - highly recommend). It was challenging, especially with a strong, inconsistent wind. I shot a 81 from the blue tees with 4 balls OB. Overall, I played well - pretty strong off the tee, irons were good, solid around the green, but didn't get anything to drop. A little unlucky with 2 of the balls OB due to wind dying or picking up as I hit. A 3rd OB was a 3 wood that I started in the fairway of the neighboring hole and it was still blown into the water after a big bounce in the middle of fairway. Best shot of the round was a 211 yard par 3 that I hit a low 5 iron to pin high. Unfortunately left the putt on the high edge as I thought the wind would turn it a little more. Funniest shot was the next par 3, where I hit a 7 iron pin high, but 30 yards right of the pin because it was a little spinny and the wind took it. My second round was at Bear Trap Dunes (highly recommend - not a "resort" course on the water). There are three 9's and I played the Grizzley and Kodiak courses. I tried playing the third 9 (Black Bear), but would have had to wait another hour to tee off so decided to pass. I had my best round of the year 73 (+1) from the white tees. I was hitting some putts when they asked if I wanted to get out 30 min early. The three guys I was joined with already teed off so I just played from where they were. Course is short so you have to be strategic and accurate off the tee otherwise it's going to be a difficult round. Most of the holes had bunker(s) cut in around 220-250 yards so I didn't touch my driver all day. You could try to go over the bunker(s), but it gets pretty narrow afterwards with either water, trees, rough, or more bunkers. It was mostly 4, 5 or 6 irons off the tee unless it was dead into the wind, then I used my 3 wood. If I was playing off the blue tees, I still wouldn't have used my driver, just more 3 woods. I played very well - accurate off the tee, strong iron play into the greens, had a chip in, couple of up and downs, and even made a few putts. Always a plus when you end the round with the same ball you started it with! It dropped my (unofficial) handicap to 5.8, which is the first time I've been below a 6. I enjoy and typically play better on courses where I'm forced to figure out what to hit off the tee instead of just mindlessly grabbing the driver out of the bag sirchunksalot, JerryB, MattF and 10 others 13 Quote Bag: Big Max Dri Lite Summit Black/Red Driver: Callaway GBB Epic - Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green Small Batch "Hulk" 3 Wood: Callaway Epix Max - Aldila Ascent Red 2 Iron: TaylorMade Stealth UDI - LA Golf A Series Hybrid 4-AW Irons: TaylorMade P790 - KBS Tour 120g Stiff (1/4" long, 2* upright) 54* & 58* Wedges: Callaway Jaws MD5 Putter: Mizuno M Craft I Blue Ball: Vice Pro Plus
Popular Post cksurfdude
Well... wudda been really great if I cudda continued the first hole ball striking and shudda continued that same first hole putting all the way through 9 holes So #1 good tee shot into the fairway into a good position; good second shot intended as a layup in front of the green bounced and rolled onto the green; good first putt right on line and good distance but unexpectedly broke off to the right in front of the hole .. slight mis-read but still a good putt .. easy second putt .. par! Then #2 Par 5 into a fairly stiff breeze; tee shot pushed into a fairway bunker, got out into the fairway, then hit to a good layup spot but pulled the approach just a bit left and got hung up on some overhanging branches .. next attempt straight into the wind found its mark .. but .. left the first putt way short and missed with the second for a 3-putt triple .. ouch! And the round continued with a mix of good and bad ball striking and putting and scoring ... finished with two triples, two doubles, two bogeys and three (whoo-hoo!) pars... ..the two bogeys were almost pars after I just missed getting up and down on each; first on the longer par 3 where the ball ended up in a bit of wet, long grass low spot .. popped it up onto the green and literally just missed sinking the putt; second on a short par 4 where I (..once again...) dumped my second shot under the lip of the deep greenside bunker .. popped it up and onto the green and right towards the pin and again just missed sinking the putt... So happy with the way the short game worked on those two holes, and happy that I hit more solid shots vs stinkers this round. The highlight hole, though, was #9 which has water down the left the whole way (and which I have drowned golf balls in several times in the past) -- pushed my tee shot right towards the trees but this time they gave me a lucky break and dumped my ball back down onto the cart path .. took a drop onto the grass .. hit an 8i intended as a layup towards the front of the green only to feel a really solid contact and watch it fly high and straight if a bit left .. where I got my second lucky break as the wind was coming in from the left and definitely held the ball up from going further left towards the bank into the water .. ball ended up in the short rough just off the left side of the green .. chipped uphill on-line but too much spin and left it short of the "comfort zone" (see there's another shudda = I shudda chosen a lower lofted wedge for this) .. and then nailed the putt!! Kenny B
OK, my wife again... She played in her Ladies Club Championship this last weekend, and she was stoked that she won the Match Play a couple of weeks ago. She is a 13 handicap and started out great shooting 85, which was only bested by her good friend's 84... a 3 handicap. Looked good after day 1. On day 2 she played with her friend again and the next two lowest gross scoring ladies. Doing OK until hole #13-14. With her friend driving the cart and my wife recording on the scorecard and not paying attention, her friend hit a ditch between #13 green and #14 tee that she didn't know was there (my wife knew it was there because we go that way a lot when we are to the right of the the #13 green. The cart path goes left of the green. Well, the jarring that the cart took hurt my wife's back. She still made it through the remaining holes (she's Irish and stubborn), but she couldn't play her normal game. Getting into and out of the huge bunker on #18 was a challenge. Her friend felt awful about it. Her friend took low gross over my wife by 10 shots, and my wife managed to best her by 10 shots net. My wife lost low net by 1 stroke. First loser, she says!! Here is the scoring; my wife is the last name on the list. cnosil, sirchunksalot, MattF and 6 others 9 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Popular Post MattF
Had probably the best driving day I've ever had yesterday. I was gripping down about 1.5" on the driver and was just killing it. No wild left or rights, it was either in the fairway or just in the "first cut". Averaged 268 off the tee yesterday compared to 255 for the season. Almost everything else stunk, so I end the day with a 92. The new @GolfSub70 005 putter is impressing me so far. It's a great lag putter from 1,000 miles away. I enjoy and typically play better on courses where I'm forced to figure out what to hit off the tee instead of just mindlessly grabbing the driver out of the bag love that area.. last time I played there. Will do - appreciate it! When we went down in the spring for our anniversary weekend, I played The Links at Lighthouse Sound, which I was a big fan of and I believe is under the same management/ownership as Rum Pointe and a few others. Unfortunately, Lighthouse Sound and some of the other local coursers were booked most of the week. I guess there were/are a lot of end of summer golf packages going on. I ended up at Bear Trap Dunes because we spent the afternoon at the outlets (no sales tax in Delaware). The wife got some work down and then a little shopping while I was golfing so it all worked out. Also why I didn't play the third 9 haha Shapotomous and cksurfdude 2 Quote Bag: Big Max Dri Lite Summit Black/Red Driver: Callaway GBB Epic - Project X HZRDUS Smoke Green Small Batch "Hulk" 3 Wood: Callaway Epix Max - Aldila Ascent Red 2 Iron: TaylorMade Stealth UDI - LA Golf A Series Hybrid 4-AW Irons: TaylorMade P790 - KBS Tour 120g Stiff (1/4" long, 2* upright) 54* & 58* Wedges: Callaway Jaws MD5 Putter: Mizuno M Craft I Blue Ball: Vice Pro Plus

That'll teach you to do yard work instead of golfing!
