How do you mark your ball?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, a few weeks ago Titleist had posted a question in their forum…”How do you mark your ball?” I personally thought this was cool and wanted to share mine. I use a green sharpie as not many others do and I make the T on Titleist into a J for my first name. The Mamba Mentality is a tribute to my favorite athlete of all time and I live by that motto. JAM in the middle is my initials. Emigh about me, let’s see how all the mygolfspy community marks their balls. This should be fun. Let’s see them…

I don’t. Usually I’m playing a ball with some corporate logo, so it’s an easy way to spot it. Otherwise, I just remember the number on my ball.

I use a two black dots, widely spaced to each side of the number.  Although lots of players use dots, I've yet to see anyone with marks close to mine.  And I do it for every round, casual or tournament, I like developing the habit of doing things the right way.  It makes me a tiny bit less likely to screw up when it matters.

I usually make a diamond shape out of 4 dots. Color doesn’t really matter. Recently I’ve changed to yellow balls (to help me find them because, I suck). Haven’t marked them because I see very few colored balls where I play.

Either a small dot next to the ball number or a letter T with fine point sharpie.

6 dots around the number on both sides. That is the way the old man marked his and I do the same thing. LOL back in his day with Balata balls he used a pencil pressed into the cover. Now days of course I use a Sharpie

Between the makers mark and the alignment line they put between opposite side makers mark, I draw with purple sharpie my stacked initials I originally created during a Green to Civilian seminar for military preparing to separate while in my final duty assignment at Ft Leavenworth KS.  They said having a memorable icon would stand out in a stack of applications, so I doodled my initials initially (see what I did there?) in upper case and then in lower case trying different arrangements, and this is what happened when I essentially stacked the d g h

IMG_20231025_164056_01_crop.jpeg.f9f68a1cac21dcc1540ff2872cc7b608.jpeg

It's been used in many applications like these business cards front and back:
image_123923953(4).JPG.07446fc209dc3948e0c8aa8f2f397342.JPG
And haha that is a dated photo, with my mark on an OnCore Caliber ball!

Best part is it takes about 4 seconds to put on the ball as a long J with an almost finished S on its side to form the shape.

I often present my ball at the 1st tee so anyone playing with me will be able to spot the mark and it rarely is it not visible and I don't care if someone lifts it to identify.

Like it your own little trademark. I knew a guy way back whose initials were D D D. He wrote his legal signature D3 as in algebra D to the 3rd power. His first name was Donald and hardly anyone called him Don or Donnie etc. Everyone called him D3

A huge benefit of the volviks I'm testing is that I definitely don't need to mark my ball to know it's mine 🤣20240731_203224.jpg.3f72f36eb1e574e88e47812068ca3103.jpg

Ever since 9/11 I've marked all my golf balls the same way.

I use two blue dots to represent the NYC Twin Towers and two red dots to represent the Pentagon and the Flight 93 crash site in Pennsylvania.  It's my simple way of always remembering!

Unfortunately, the message is sort of lost with yellow or other colored balls.

I use six dots under the number on one side and six dots over the number on the other side.  I mark a red line over the alignment line that comes printed on ball.  I use that line when I tee off to see where I made contact on the clubface and I also use it for putting

I make my own triple tracks in green. Guys I play with use red, blue and the one weirdo uses yellow balls. We always can tell whos is whos without lifting it.20240813_184520.jpg.a33eb88d8be411cecb80f65232f81ed6.jpg

Has no one warned him!

Look at his photo in the Vice Iron testing. He rides a skateboard on the golf course, has a head cover with hair on it and he calls a guy with a yellow ball a weirdo. 🤣🤣

Ha I knew that would ruffle a feather. I have some I use them occasionally but for the life of me I can't seem them in flight and we already have leaves falling so all but maybe 3 months of the year I'm trying to help him find a yellow ball in yellow leaves. If my eyes could see it in flight it wouldn't be so bad.

I mean it could be worse. The srixon divides give me epileptic seizures off a chip and when putting.
