If you are an avid putter fan, you have most likely seen or heard of Salty Grips by now.

 

If not, here is an introduction:

 

From Salty Grips:

Fishing and golf—our two favorite things. After years of alternating between casting a fly-rod and swinging a club, we hit upon a plan for one passion to help another. Our lightweight cork putter grips are inspired by those used on fishing rods.  

We designed and developed a patented grip to optimize control over our stroke. Once we had it down, it was a matter of finding the right cork, which, it turns out, comes from a cork oak grove in Portugal. Now, pros and amateurs alike use Salty Grips to improve their feel on the greens.

 

I've been in contact with Mark (one of the owners) over the past month or so.  After quite a few conversations, I really like not only what I have seen so far, but where I think they are headed in the future.  If you're thinking this is just going to be a cork based putter grip company you might be surprised in the months and years to come.  They have a lot of ideas of where they want to take this and how to plan to grow.

 

Today, I wanted to show you guys some of the custom MyGolfspy Salty Grips I had made.  We will be giving some of these and more away from Salty Grips in the coming weeks.  As you can see the ones I had made are similar in size to the SuperStroke style grips that have become so popular.

Is there anything done to them that makes the cork durable? I love the feel of cork on a fishing rod but, it tends to chip and flake over time. What makes these grips different?

Will this make a putter float?  If so I know a kid who could use one.  Several weeks ago I saw this high school senior walk by the clubhouse window in hip waders.  I watched him and he walked into the lake between the 9th and 18th island greens.  He walked out to the mud bar and dug around until he came back with a putter.  He then walked over and rinsed off his waders and his Scotty Cameron and walked back by.

 

I have gone outside by this point and when he came by I asked, innocently, "Did you miss the putt?"

 

He said, "2 footer" and continued about his business.

Is there anything done to them that makes the cork durable? I love the feel of cork on a fishing rod but, it tends to chip and flake over time. What makes these grips different?

The sealant they use keeps them from chipping.  Love the grips, just wished you could blow them on and off in case you change putters, but alas, you can't.  They wear in over time like cork fishing rods do.  They form to your hand and act as a reminder grip.  And when they put a handwritten note in your box when you buy a grip thanking you for your business, yeah, first class company.  Now to order another one since the one I had went with the putter I sold.

 

MGS, make sure you guys follow the install instructions to a tee or it won't fit right.  Luckily I noticed while the solvent was wet enough to slide the grip right back off.

Very cool grip and something I plan on trying at some point. The only two reasons I don't have one already is not being able to install with air and being weary of how it will hold up being pulled in/out of the putter well on a Bagboy Revolver bag as its a pretty tight fit on the Superstrokes.

That putter grip is sweet. I sure do like my best grips suede putter grip though.

Anyone have any experience with these grips in the rain??  It rains here about 13 months a year.  I love the look, and the idea behind the grips, but if it won't work in the wet....

I installed mine last week and have really liked it so far, as has everyone that has seen it in the shop. Looking forward to some warmer weather to get it out on the course.
