  1. I started going to GolfWrx shortly after Puttertalk shut down, at first it seemed to be a site full of information about golf, I soon found out that a pretty site does not make an informative site. Lets start with their "reviews": It seems that if it comes from one of the top OEM's, specially Titleist, it is instantly a "gotta have" piece of equipment. "Tests": (See above) Forums: This is were I had/have the most fun reading. It appears that unless you 3000 posts and are "know" by the mods and others, your posts will get little to no answer. Members: Seems that every one of the popular posters drive the ball 350 with 300 carries, drivers are 7 degrees, 3 wood 11 degrees and all the shafts are graphite/titanium coated/hand laid by virgins/ with magnesium alloy outer core, tipped 4 inches playing at XXXXStiff, their irons are bent plus 5 degrees and are made out of meteor cores, with the grips hand turn from solid rubber billets. You have to pledge your loyalty to Saint Tiger Woods But seriously, hope MGS takes a lesson from them and continues minimize the influence from OEM's and allows testers to continue to post their true feeling about the products. One GREAT thing done here is that all handicaps are taking into consideration when testing products. Plus your allowed to make an A** out of yourself ( like I have in this post) without being placed into the time out box,,,

  2. I'm not going to count this as a baseline. The white claws were flowing and I went unconscious on the greens. Proud of my round but this hurts the sandbagging effort. The driver remains to be fantastic off the tee and I'm anxious to see how the radspeed stacks up. I'm eager to see how the copper MIMs long and mid irons perform... The P770s are great but lacking In the 5, 6, and 7 irons. I'm with @jlukes regarding my 3W. I hit it so well off the tee and it's a bullet from the fairway.

    New irons!

After 12 years of my current set (Ping S57’s) I’ve finally taken the plunge and ordered a new set of custom fit Mizuno irons. After a few sessions, which involved taking a couple of different options out onto the course, I’ve placed my order for a set - 4 to PW of Mizuno MP20 irons. I’ve gone for a combo set with MP20 HMB 4 & 5 irons and MP20 MMC in the 6 to PW. KBS C Taper Lite stiff shafts, 1” longer than standard, bent 2 degrees upright and 2 degrees weaker than standard. It’s taken a few fittings to get to this final spec and I want to thank my local pro for being (very) patient with me and my plethora of questions. So. The order is in. Now I’ve just go to wait 4 to 8 weeks (maybe) for them to arrive

    How'd you play?

    - 40/41 = 81 (+9) - 4/15 FIR - 5/18 GIR (1 birdie) - 29 Putts (11 2-putts, 7 1-putts) Another densely foggy morning which was tough to work with. I couldn't see my tee shots land all day and was only able to see greens for my approach by about No. 17. Wasted a fantastic day with the putter due to my driver all of a sudden going left on me today. It had been going right for the past three weeks! Hooked two balls OB left on the back nine. All but one other of my drivers today went left. On the plus side I was making much better contact with the ball and had two drives out over 280 yards according to Arccos. Other than the driver, it was a pretty solid round! Had a double bogey on No. 2 because I was about 30 yards past the green with my second shot. Not sure how I managed that! Also birdied No. 9 for the first time this year after hitting a great wedge from the rough about 100 yards out to five feet.

  6. A couple of Kirke updates. The most important news is that next week, Kirke has both his first tournament of the year and his first round of Drive, Chip, and Putt. These are back-to-back days, 2+ hour drives each way in totally opposite directions: I think his game is in pretty good shape right now. He had a few weeks during which he insisted on teeing his drives really high, only to continue to hit weak skyballs. But he's stubborn. Evenually, he decided to lower his tee a bit and is back to driving the ball pretty well. A couple of weeks back, I was attending a conference. An acquaintence invited Kirke to play at his country club down in the Chicago area, so I got to tag along and play (probably not the last time I get to play golf somewhere nice because of Kirke). Our host graciously extended the invitation that, should Kirke get through his local qualifying at Spooner and then the next round at SentryWorld, we could stay with him for the DCP event at Medinah. I'm really hoping Kirke makes it that far. Last night, we went to the course to begin filming Kirke's entry for the swing video contest I mentioned above. I've come up with a handful of ideas. One drone shot I wanted just wasn't happening, but we got a couple of others that should look good. I also really like this split screen view: I've got one more video idea that we attempted to film last night, but I don't think the footage we got is going to work. So it might be a little bit longer before I'm able to get this year's video in its final form.

  7. IMO, feel is something that is learned. People always say thinks I don’t thing about mechanics when throwing a baseball; that is true, but to throw a baseball 40:feet you have to build those feels through repetition. For putting you need to practice rolling the ball specific distances… how far do I move my hands or the head of the putter to roll the ball specific distances. For me I move the putter head specific distances and always keep the same tempo. For example a 10 for putt moves the putter back to my big toe, 20 feet is just outside my right foot, etc. once on the course I know what it feels like to move the putter that far so I just do it without the mechanical thoughts. when you go to another course you try rolling a 10 foot putt and see how far the ball goes. If it is short of 10 feet the greens are slower and you need a bigger stroke. F farther then you need to use a smaller stroke. practice by doing ladder drills. Focus on being able to roll the ball a specific distance as speed dictates a lot of the decision process about putting.

We had been working on our back patio to get it all finished up and a friend gave us some wood chairs and wood table free! My partner found some ideas online and we got to redoing them. We still have one bench to finish, but from some old crap chairs and a nice, but boring table this is what we ended up with!

  14. @Brian A and @jlukes Last year I was sitting there waiting for the e-mail and text notifications… finally getting one… then realizing at delivery it was only PART of the order! I was sitting there looking at the tracking going wow they got it all in one box? So you might have 3 or 4 “longest waits in golf” to go through. For all the testers, have you needed to make any changes to your orders? Or does it seem like the shafts/grips/heads you all ordered are going to be available? Cant wait for the competition to get rolling!

  16. So I’ve been working at this for over 3 years. When I started my driver swing speed was mid 80’s. Slowly but surely it’s been coming up. It made its way into the 90’s and stayed in the low 90’s until last fall when I started doing PT. Today I hit three straight drives with a rapsodo measured SS of 100 mph. I also hit a bunch of driver/GW combos as that will be my most likely combo on the first hole tomorrow in league. I also hit a few 7 irons and then 3 gorgeous 7 woods at a flag that was 187 - all of them rolled out past that flag. Ended with 5 or 6 54 degree wedges and then went to putt for a bit. IMG_0087.mov

  21. I'm a genius. I could buy a men's callaway epic flash used heavenwood for $150 plus or a women's version for $110 "like new". I opted for the women's version because i checked the specs and the heads are the exact same, same weight, everything. The like new came from callaway as brand new in plastic.

  22. Sage advice! I was just rewatching some DECADE stuff and as Scott says, being a good putter is all about controlling speed. Having the EXPUTT is great for this. I don't spend a ton of time on the practice green before rounds, but what I usually do is walk off a 10 foot and 20 foot putt and hit at least 2-3 of each to calibrate speed. Once I've got that, then it's just a matter of keeping that feel throughout the round. @dlow206 sounds like you are making some good progress with the new instructor and grip. I think your plan of improving your bunker play and eliminating those wasted shots is going to make a big difference in your scores.

    How'd you play?

I had a rough start to my day. First drive pushed it right, but thought I was OK and had a clear shot to the green. However, I hit it a little longer into the long weeds and never found it. Followed it up with a horrible 7 iron over the green and off the cart path. Second hole same thing. Pushed it right, but found it. But second shot on steep angle went straight into the water. Rest of the front nine was a mix of good and bad, but started getting it together by the 7th hole. Ended up at 12 over for the front. Back nine I got it all together. Ran a streak of pars and hit most shots square, so much better. Went 3 over for the back nine. Was surprised at how much better I did on the back nine as it was hot for so early in the year (just over 90F) and I was walking.

  29. Alright guys, time to fess up: how many clubs in your bag have switched already since you decided on your bag setup for this year? I'm not talking about those of you who have rotation clubs (driving iron vs. hybrid for certain courses, etc.). I'm talking about clubs that have been benched for more or less steady replacements. For me, it's two: I like the Adams dHy, but when I gave it more reps on the simulator, my older Callaway XR Pro 20° hybrid beat it out for consistently hitting that gap in my bag. I also grabbed the Odyssey Big Seven Toe Up from Callaway Pre-owned just before the season started, and it's been in my bag for most of my rounds. It's not pretty, but I'm putting just fine with it so far. I also tweaked my driver setup: I cut down a Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black shaft an inch, and I've been using that with my driver set at 10° and the weight all the way in the toe. What you have changed up in your bag this season?

Shot an 87 at Windmill this afternoon. First ball off the tee, straight down the guts about 261...that was the best drive of the day. I think I'm going to talk to my instructor about playing a fade because that's what I was hitting most of the time.

  32. Yup, this is one of the best things about Arccos. I was considering dropping a wedge and going to a 52/58 or 50/57 setup. When I looked at my club usage, I realized that my wedges are by far the most used clubs in my bag and sacrificing a spot in my wedge slot would be extremely foolish.

  34. ... So true Lacassem, especially for all good players. Hardest club to find and even harder to replace once you do. Just ask Henrick Stenson. Aldila VP told me he was trying to replace the BiMatrix in David Tom's 5 wood that he used to hit a hole in one at the 2001 PGA Championship but would not even try another. He was told the shaft was out dated and a new one would most definitely improve his performance but he just wasn't interested.

    How'd you play?

On vacation this week in Hilton Head and able to fit in a few rounds. Played Palmetto Dunes - Robert Trent Jones course. This was the first time I've played this course and while not my favorite, was in good shape and had some nice holes. Had a few errant tee shots that cost me a few strokes and my putting was not stellar, but overall was really happy with my game today. 38/39 - 77 3 birdies - (2 chip ins, 1 putt made) - missed 2 other looks from around 8 ft. 10 greens 7 fairways

  36. Thanks, this is really helpful, i've never really given any thought to how far back my putter moves in regards to specific distances, besides the obvious that it needs to go farther for longer distances. I've heard heavier putter for faster greens. Anyone, not going to concern myself with that LOL, just putt with one putter. Thanks, the in-person lesson was something that couldn't have been replicated via an online lesson. During the in-person lesson, even though the instructor showed me how he wanted my hands on the club, it took him physically readjusting my hands multiple times over the course of the lesson to get it right. I guess sometimes, see and replicate doesn't always work for me, sometimes i need the instructor to physically put in my in a position to feel it for example. In all my other in-person lessons, they never mention anything about my grip, so I ask and they say it either looks fine or maybe its a little too strong. This lesson we literally spent like 20 minutes on grip.

  38. The most likely thing they wouldn’t have would be grips, but I think all of us listed at least two alternate grips, so even though we haven’t heard anything we might not be getting our first choice. I also listed alternate shafts for a few clubs as well.

It'd be around a 9 hour drive for me but I would absolutely do my best to make something like this. Years ago when I was with a forum that we won't name, I was able to meet @ole gray and @DawgDaddy at a regional meetup we had. Then we were able to get together and play again, some of the most fun I've had golfing!

  40. Seriously. We have a package locker for our apartment but things like clubs and carseats dont fit. Although I think I remember my Mavrik irons were delivered to the locker. Driver definitely wont fit. Not sure what is going to happen as I am expecting sub70 irons today and I won't be home. Signature required means nothing apparently to Fedex or UPS because the carseat they delivered yesterday also said signature required but they left it at the door. Nice! I also demo'd the 699 pros and then eventually ordered a preowned set over the Memorial day weekend. Expecting them today. Not sure if they will leave it at the door as it says signature required but as I mentioned above that seems to be a suggestion for these guys. Hope it don't get stolen because it would be odd to replace preowned irons...

I’m not going to tell what happened on 15 standing in the middle of the fairway with a perfect lie into the wind with the same club from about the same distance. Perhaps I swung left handed or something. I did make my bogey putt.

  43. First thing is like a lot of you I ordered a MGS driver headcovers. I’m finally putting the Epic Max in the bag this week, and I hate the stock hc so I can’t wait for it to get here. Speaking of the driver, getting fitted into the 5.0 shaft was a bit of a wake up call. It really does work better for me distance wise than the Alta regular in my G400 Max (which has been my favorite driver ever). I’ve decided to go senior flex in everything except my wedges now, so buckle up, the driver HC was the tip of the iceberg purchase wise the last few days. First let’s start with the woods. I’m switching shafts in my 4 wood and 3&4 hybrids. Sticking with Kuro Kage, but going senior. The FW will cost $75 the hybrids $35 each. I’ll save on the adaptors and grips because the fitter I know down here was able to blow them off and put them on the new ones. Total comes to $145, installed, which I think is pretty good? Next, the irons. I know you guys are probably getting tired of hearing me complain how I’ve been struggling with mine. I tested a few last week, and mine won out, but after another struggle on Saturday, I’m moving on from the PXGs. (anyone interested let me know via dm). Yesterday I hit the Sim and the Mavriks which are the strongest lofted I tried. I held off on them last week thinking I needed higher launch, but the Mavriks were great. A club longer than the PXGs and a lot easier to hit. I’ll decide tonight whether to order another set of Rogue X (I loved these irons, never should’ve switche) from Amazon or the set of Mavriks I have in the cart at Callaway .com. *** ADVICE NEEDED*** I’m leaning toward the Rogue X because of familiarity with the heads, and price. I can get them $300 cheaper than the Mavriks. Another reason is the shafts. The stock Synergy shaft in senior is the same weight as the Catalyst in the Mavrik, but I think the Project X shafts play stiff to flex. I liked the regular flex Synergy in my old X’s, and from what I’ve read the Catalyst is an excellent shaft, any comments on this from the “shaft gurus” here?

    How'd you play?

Played a pretty solid round of golf this weekend. I got to play the previous weekend 5 days in a row for the first time in 8 months and it mad a huge difference. These high lofted fairway woods are a game changer. On the number 10 tee box I said “Anything past the tree is a good drive on this hole.” To my playing partner who was unhappy with his drive. I then proceeded to hit the tree almost dead center and bounced deeper into them. I had an opening but had to launch it high and was 185 yards for the green. I could not actually see the green unless I got down on my knees and looked under the 5-6 trees between me and the green. It was in the deep grass but sitting on a track mark from a cart so I could get the club on it. I took the 9 wood and thought “just make good contact.” So I took a mighty swing but the flying grass kept me from seeing the ball. It felt good. I yelled to the guy 85 yards closer and standing in the fairway if he saw it. He said, “Yes, we all ____ing saw it.” I said I didn’t where is it. He said “3 feet from the ____ing pin and I thought it was going in.” I ended up making $10 there and a total of $60 for the day. Normally I use a range finder to get the exact distance but in this case I just guessed the distance and just hoped I could get over the trees and have a chip and avoid a big number, I never expected to have little more than a tap in for birdie.

  46. That would be really cool. I’m going to start planting the seed with my Mrs. and @Lacassem’s old lady as well. We’ll just need to convince them that its some sort of beach trip or scouting trip for when we inevitably move south. 2022 should give me enough time to get the final approval! It would be cool to do a meet and greet with some of the HQ guys, testers, and forum members. As the guy who does the tee-time reservations for our annual NH trip I get that its a lot of work and can be a pain to get people to commit, but let’s make it happen!

  47. It depends on what someone is trying to fix/achieve. Something as simple as the educator or a hangar could be a good aid. There’s a couple that are used to help with getting wrist set in the right position using a semi circle to place the wrist/forearm on at certain positions in the swing that could help. Someone needing/looking to improve how the body works in the swing could benefit from the planemate of the g box. The g box shallower could be used in conjunction or alone. But a man alignment stick marching shaft or elbow plane could be the right aid or one could go fancy with one of several plane board or plane setup stations. Could be as simple as sticking an alignment stick inside the club and placing it on lead or trail hip and hitting balls with a full swing but at a reduced effort or just chip shots. Somebody trying to stop sway or learning how the pressure works in the swing could use downunderboard, the balance board or as simple as an alignment stick in the ground in certain spots and angles. For the most part there’s no bad training aids but rather bad use of them

I just spoke to Adam about this again last week. Well, this wasn't the subject of the call, it was just something that came up during it. It is definitely on the future radar in some form or fashion TBD, no earlier than 2022. Location would almost certainly take place near the MGS HQ--Williamsburg, VA area for those that don't know. Adam likes to do things, right in every way. So give it some time and I look as forward to it as everyone else probably is.
