But here's the latest: Picked up the Caddytalk Cube, used 2 rounds so far. Super cool. The triangulation is surprisingly useful and accurate (checked it against my buddy's Bushnell a few times, and it was accurate within a yard, even accounting for slope). On regular readings, had some duds though - like a 100+ yd shot reading at 8yd (not the "you just missed the flag" issues, actual misreads, and by a lot), but they were noticeable, and a couple reads later were much better. Overall happy with the early performance. Then, added a couple more Putt Buddies divot tool/ball mark combos to the collection, this time going with Dr Evil / Mini Me and Phil / Darth Vader. They're a bit bulky, but cool designs (also have a Chubbs and a Spackler). And, last thing for now... Reef Spackler golf flippy floppies (with soft spikes and all) -- who knows when I'll ever use them, especially considering they clearly lack support, but they look way cooler than the old FJ sandals that I used to have (maybe they'll be the new par 3 go-to shoes). What's next for this club ho? I'm eyeing up a legit LAB putter fitting this winter - seems like that would make a huge difference for me. And then what's tempting but completely unrealistic for the current situation? A Finn Golf Scooter - after riding one a couple weeks ago, I never want to go back to a traditional cart. But for it to make sense, would need to join our neighborhood course, and that's not currently in the cards. This Cube rangefinder looks really cool. sirchunksalot
We got off work early today due to a supplier issue, so I stopped by Ross and picked up a pair of Callaway golf pants. Honestly, it's the first pair of golf specific pants I've ever purchased and I have to say they're comfortable. Most of the nicer courses I've played I was fortunate to play in the warmer months where I could wear shorts, so I never needed a pair. I usually get by playing in jeans at the places but the house. The reviews look pretty promising. https://www.golfmonthly.com/reviews/laser/caddytalk-cube-rangefinder-review Mike, are you still finding problems with getting accurate readings for the pin? Sorry - the cold hit here in Madison, so haven't been on the course since that last post. But, we're in a mini heatwave, so we got out for 9 today -- did not hit any of the same issues with bad distances, and I think it was only like two times in the first 36 holes (but again, not like it was giving bad reads that went unnoticed, they were very clearly off). I'm still getting used to toggling the settings and everything, but it's a positive experience. One kinda cool feature is that there's a screen on the side that clearly shows which mode it's in and displays the actual distance readings, so you can see all of the info outside of the scope (so, grab a reading, pull it down, and can actually show the group). I keep thinking I'm going to miss the GPS function of my Bushnell Hybrid, but then again, I get all of those features and more on my watch today, so there's really no need to have it directly on the rangefinder. And in the spirit of this group...I also added a green silicone cover to the Cube, which looks pretty slick. BLD7
Being the winter weather is upon us here in the mitten state, I get to appease my golf appetite by hanging out here on MGS, a few other digital hangouts, and when I can sneak away to a sim or heated range, I do it. With the winter weather also comes me trying some new things when I can. I started up the SuperSpeed training again and that got me thinking about shafts (again). For the last couple seasons I've been playing Ventus shaft in driver/fairways. Those shafts, and frankly all shafts for as long as I can recall have been 70+ gram shafts in X flex. Being that the lightest training stick in the SuperSpeed is always so much faster than my actual driver swing speed, I went ahead and found a Ventus TR Black 6X shaft to try out over the winter. Having only ever played heavier weight shafts, it will be interesting to see how the weight difference changes not just swing speed but how the club feels and ball flight, etc. BNewton51, sirchunksalot, BallsLeon and 5 others 8 Quote Driver: Titleist TSR3 9* | H2 track setting | C4 hosel setting | Fujikura Ventus TR Black 6X 3 wood: Titleist TSi3 15* | T track setting | B4 hosel setting | Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 7X 5 wood: Titleist TSR2 18* | C4 hosel setting | Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 8S Hybrid: Titleist TSR2 21* | B1 hosel setting | Fujikura Ventus HB Blue 9X Irons: Titleist T100 Black | 5-P | True Temper AMT Tour White X100 Wedges: Vokey SM9 Jet Black | 50.08F, 54.12D, 58.08M | True Temper AMT Tour White S300 Putter: Scotty Cameron Champions Choice Button Back Newport 2.5+
Popular Post Syks7
Well, I certainly didn't intend to buy another driver, but here I am. Usual story. Walked into Roger Dunn in search of another 0317 Hybrid, walked out with a used, but mint 0811XT wearing a Tensei CK Orange shaft. I asked them to hold it for me and came back to clean out the older hybrid/driver's collecting dust in the garage to trade and walked out with it for $60. I may have to send Bob Parsons a card. On the GC quad at the shop it out performed my 0211 pretty thoroughly and I have absolutely loved that 0211 since I bought it. It also heavily outperformed it at the range. I like the club so much that I just have continued to use it with the nasty battle damage on top.
