In round recovery

Recommended Posts

Hopefully this isn’t a duplicate as I couldnt find anything on this.

one of the things that has worked for me up until the summer this year is being able to “find” my swing again during the round. If I hit a bad drive or two or iron shot I usually was able to get it straightened out within a hole or two, but I really struggled with it for the last half of the year. I think I got to focused on the “mechanics” instead of the feel.

How good are you are getting your swing back if it goes awry during the round

For me it all goes back to tempo. If I get out of wack I work in making sure I have good tempo.

That’s usually my fault too and it comes from not getting a good pressure transfer. Then I start thinking to much. When I take a few swings to get feel for what I want I can usually recover. I just couldn’t get that going most of the summer and fall. I’ve been working on feeling better rotation lately which has helped. My offseason focus is going to be on good rotation

I usually struggle with this but the last half of the year, I really started to figure how to recover. I have one swing thought when I play, which is, pull don't push. When things would start going poorly, I would add all of these other swing thoughts, and become a victim of paralysis by analysis.  For the last half of the year, when things would get off track, I told myself, you have a good swing, just maintain your one swing thought, and you will make some good swings. I think that gave me a confidence boost and made me play a little more instinctually but whatever it did, it really worked.

Yup, it’s also Tempo for me. Bad Tempo leads me to bad Swing Plane and then I’m a mess. I know I do it but have trouble maintaining.

I also suffer from overthinking so reversing to my one swing thought of "keep your head still" seems to work. I honestly don't think keeping my head still actually does anything other than getting all the other thoughts out.
