Yesterday had both positive and negative aspects.  On the positive, I probably had the best day hitting the Callaway Paradym X irons I'm reviewing for MGS.  Most iron hits were solid, hitting more greens than any round in the last two months.  On the negative, my putter abandoned me!  30 putts including a very unusual for me two 3 putts!

image.png.b54c4b20201574ede23efec51b768d2a.png

After working out some of my iron demons in the last few rounds, now it's time to fix the putter issues!

Second round back from my 5-day golf trip.  Still hitting irons pretty well; driver comes and goes; not many putts made.  Made the turn in 41 (+4) with a triple bogey on the easiest par 5 on the course.

Highlights today include a birdie on the 1st hole; 3 sandy pars, including from a fairway bunker on the par 5 #18.  Pulled driver a little into the left bunker; hit 7i out and into the tree at the dogleg.  I was between the tree with the pump house about 8 feet in front of me.  For my 3rd shot I hit my 60º Phil shot over the pump house into the fairway; then from 120y into the wind and all carry over a huge bunker, I hit my 8i to 6 inches for tap-in par.  Second day in a row I've had a tap-in par on that hole.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Played a nice round today except for one par three that I triple bogey. Messed up some chips and then three putted the green. Over all it was a good day on the course.

First round after my golf trip and started with 5 straight pars, but had a double on #9.  40 (+3)  Took another double on #10, but had a birdie (net eagle) on the Par 3 #15.  After a nice drive on the par 5 #18, I topped my 3W into the rough.  Too far to carry over the bunker to the green, I laid up with a 9i for my 3rd shot.  Hit SW to less than a foot for a tap-in par 39 (+4).  I'm liking the Maxfli Tour S ball.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Went out today trying to play with the mindset they would keep me on track to break par. The course isn’t very long (6300 yds) but the greens are small and really firm. 4 of the 5 par 3s are 190+ from the tips with one playing 225 today into a 10mph wind. Ouch. I managed to par three of the five par 3s but couldn’t make birdie on any of the par 5s. That was the real killer. And only one birdie on a shortish par 4 playing downwind from an elevated tee. 390 yards and I almost drove the green. Hard landing area was a huge help allowing for an easy up and in for birdie. Overall it wasn’t a terrible round but it was a grind when it really shouldn’t have been. Playing Landmand tomorrow so gonna have to up my game a little or the course will eat my lunch.

I can honestly say that after spending the last week of April playing 12 rounds in 9 days on the RTJ golf trail in Alabama, I was never so happy to see flat land again!!! The elevation changes alone made my handicap balloon up over 3 strokes so now I have to work to get it back down where I was when I started. I started my Alabama trip with a 13.6 handicap index and finished the trip at a 16.4 index!! Needless to say, it was still a great trip and we're planning next year's trip to other RTJ sites we haven't been to yet!!

I was looking forward to posting this today. This was the final round in the biggest 2-man best ball tournament of the year. Sadly, 3 balls OB on the first 2 holes. I got it together on the third hole and managed to get myself position to have 8 makable birdie putts. I missed them all and managed to 3-putt 4 times. I missed 4 par putts from 3’. I had not had a 3-putt this month and had not missed a putt from 5’ with this putter. My teammate said I was lining up left. Without the 3-putts we would have won our flight. With them we finished 1 stroke out of the money.

I didn’t keep track on my own ball but it was not very pretty…. Actually, I just counted them in my head, and I was 13 over par with 6 of those strokes coming on the first two holes, but my teammate did well on those holes.

First full round of the year for me here in Michigan.

Played behind a very slow group in front of me, thank goodness they left after hole 13.

On the front, there were a few holes where I actually hit mid irons off the tee, and a couple wedges into the green just to keep the pace moving along.

36 putts total, no 3 putts, but greens were on the slow side.

Actually, I was pleased with how well I putted today considering it was the first time out, and speed control was good with just "tap-ins" usually left for the 2nd putt.

Paired two 9 hole rounds together this week. First one earlier in the week was forgettable to say the least, but today’s was a 48 with no 3 putts so I was happy about that.

Ball striking was terrible today and was terribly inconsistent but still beats a day at work

Had more rounds to post but since we basically threw the rule book into our uncut fairways and lost it, I don’t see the point. Still a good round at my course is in the upper 70s for me with the current conditions. Basically, every shot is 100% carry and no roll out (even drives). Greens are great but fairways are about 4” deep at this point. IF you find your ball, it’s a terrible and generally buried lie. My best round this weekend was a 76 and long drive was about 280 iirc. It’s definitely been rough - pun intended.

Hi Kwychang!  Great to see you posting in the Virtual Championship Tour... WELCOME!!

Just wanted to walk through your two rounds posted, I think a few numbers were posted out of place...

I believe the course par at Star Ranch is 71.  And you shot a net 67 (or 4 strokes under your handicap).  What I can't tell is... what is your course handicap, and what you actually shot.  Can you help me out there and we can edit your two scores.

The Gross Score should be the score you shot that day.  The Course Handicap is your calculated GHIN (or other) handicap for that course.  The Gross Strokes over/under par should be the number of strokes you shot over the course par.  Net score to par is automatically calculated, so if you shot 4 under your handicap... this number would be -4.  Net score is also automatically calculated, and if the other items above have been entered correctly, would show your net score (if you shot 4 under your handicap on a par 71 course... this number would read "67).

We have also loaded an FAQ for the VCT to help...

Let me know if you have any questions or need help editing your score.  Thanks,

I edited your scores to show a 9 handicap (not sure this is your correct course handicap, let me know), but if you can let me know the correct values for all the categories, I can help you edit them.

Thanks!

Not my best day for ball striking and I lost the putter a bit after the front nine. Just a "meh" kind of round at the end of the day, but I did get one gross birdie on #15 after draining a 20-footer - which is a bit sad considering I missed a 3-footer earlier in the round lol.

Strange round, made great contact but just couldn't get the GIR, a lot of up and down opportunities for par but duffed a few chips. 57% fairways but only 11% GIR isn't going to get it done. A lot of positives from the round, just didn't put any circles on the scorecard - too many mental mistakes off the tee either taking the wrong club or unnecessarily aggressive.

I have a score to post!  Hope to have a few more in the coming weeks.

Mostly a crap round.  Seem to have lost my short game.  Lost a few strokes to being honest and counted every whiff, probably about 6 strokes total for this round.  However, there were some things to be redeemed.

First swing off the blocks was also my longest drive.  Hit the center of the face the first time and the thing flew!  A good bounce and I got myself 55 yards over average.   Had a few more good drives later as well as a better than average number of solid hits.  Hoping to continue improving that area, it's making GIRs look much more feasible.  Not that I got any this time out.

Putting also felt good.  I switched back to my old putter as I've put the Garsen ULTIMATE on it for testing.  I think it's a good combo, but can't say which of the two changes are helping the most.  I like the feel and look of the putter head.  It's more weighted to the bottom than the KS1 as it's not counter balanced.  The sweep angle of the shaft is greater by a few degrees which feels more comfortable at address.  The new grip is a big improvement over the factory grip.  I don't think I can ever use a skinny grip again.  The ULTIMATE has a nice tacky surface, a good forward face for thumb placement and a seam in the back that gives a tactile awareness of where square is.  I only missed putts that I rushed and didn't practice a good setup.  It took a while to get my speed control down, but that was to be expected since the green speed had changed a bunch since the last time I played the course, and different putter mechanics.  Overall I still did better than the last few months.

The GIR on #5 is mismarked, I was on in 3 after an errant hit almost to another green behind ours.  Ooops, shoulda clubbed down.

Double Digits are the way of the competition this week and our Low Net Score this week had as much pressure as the back nine at the PGA Championship.

Two rounds posted at Net 9 Under (-9) were bested by this week's winner.

With a Gross 69 (that's right... 3 under par GROSS), posting a net TEN UNDER PAR (-10) playing at Sun City Golf Club - Legacy Hills...

Please join me in Congratulating@Javs for this outstanding round of golf!

Javs will be sporting the MGS Forum Member VCT Black Jacket Badge for this next week.  Great Playing Javs!!

This week, we have a runaway winner for the Most Net Birdies or Better...

@RoverRick posted 12 in his round of Gross 81 / Net 71 at Sulphur Springs, and his profile will display the Birdie Badge this week.  That is A LOT of Birdies (maybe an Eagle or two in that round??)
