Popular Post GolfSpy_APH
EVNROLL is back with another member test, this year focusing on the New V-SERIES putters! Evnroll Putters first came to the golfing world’s attention in 2016 with a range of stunning 100% milled putters featuring designer Guerin Rife’s ground-breaking, patented “Sweet Face” Technology. The innovative and unique groove technology is engineered to deliver uniform performance across the entire hitting area of the putter face for unprecedented accuracy and zero dispersion. Since then the brand has won multiple-awards internationally for its game changing technology including being the first company to win MyGolfSpy’s ‘Most Wanted blade and mallet’ back-to-back. All EVNROLL putters come with SWEETFACE TECHNOLOGY. On a 25 foot putt a ball hit ½” off center, outside the Sweet Spot (center of percussion), will travel 6” to 8” off line and 12” to 18” shorter. That miss hit is a missed putt. To add to that the V-Series is customizable with different hosels depending on your putting stroke and needs. Popular Post Golfspy_CG2
Long Term FINAL Review 4/22/24 EVENROLL EV11 Review My final review is a bit later than the others, which is not untypical for a Moderator review as we like at least one review of the bunch to be a longer term review the 4 to 5 weeks given by the members. That said, wow what a great job by all the testers in this testing. A lot has been posted with the tech and data. This putter after the initial 4-week run has been in and out of my bag over the last 8 months. I have some of that myself, maybe in a slightly different way, but it will illustrate the performance on course and on EX Putt which those of you familiar with that, know it is not only a great practice and play device for putting but gives some good data on your putting specs. First Impressions 20 of 20 But First I wanted to chime in on the first impressions. Nothing to not like here on looks or first impression. I decided on the 11 as it was like a shape that I’ve had success within the past in a couple versions of the TM Spyder. But currently I have gone hybrid if you will, not full mallet and not blade, I’ve been gaming a Scotty Cameron Flowback 5.5. I really felt so comfortable with it from the first few putts I got to try when the Rep was here showing the line. I’ve had a few other putters come and go for a short stint in the bag but nothing has been able to unseat it yet. I was very pleased at the look of it out of the box. I chose the gravity grip, and it looks and felt perfect to me from a size standpoint. The familiar red and black of EVNROLL put me at comfort right away when I first put it down on the course. As usual with EVNROLL the quality was apparent from the finish to the hosel transition to the head and the alignment of the grip. The open cavity on the bottom serves a technical purposes of weight distribution in increasing the MOI in helping square the face. And as seen below it can help pick up those 2-foot gimme's if your playing partners are so inclined to do so. The Numbers 28 of 30 So this is where the gravel meets the road as they say, or more appropriately, ball meets the hole. I don’t have any arccos or Shotscope data, but I do track all my stats every round on the GHIN app, so I have some pretty good data from my current putter. Here are some basics from the 2023 season mostly with the Scotty, but as mentioned a few others thrown in. Putting has always been my strength and while not tour level, these numbers aren’t bad for a 17 handicap. You can see the numbers didn’t change greatly, but even going up a half stroke isn’t the direction you want to go and the up and down percentage again dropping marginally. My 2022 scores wit the Flowbck in play the entire year. My 2023 Stats with the EVNROLL in Play from July through most of October If you look closely at the 1,2 and 3 putt percentage. My 2 and 3 putt numbers were identical. But my 1 putt percent went up which honestly I think was mostly built early in the year. As i felt i went through a mid season putting slump: So how do those stats breakdown on a round to round basis. I typically don’t have a wide variance in my putting totals, meaning I’m not likely to have the hands of a bricklayer with 40 putts one day and putt like Denny McCarthy the next with 24 or something outrageous. I’m consistent if anything, typically always coming in that 32 to 34 range on individual rounds which accounts for my stats above. That said, I think my best during this past year was 28 and worst was one day of 40, and I have no explanation for that. In addition to the on-course stats, I did several practice sessions on the EX-Putt and on our actual putting green. The Ex-Putt shots will show you a bit more than the data, but if you look closely on the left of the screen you will see club path and face angle. I generally have a slight out to in path with the putter, much like my full swing, I guess it’s in my DNA no matter the club. And like my full swing I tend to close the face well to compensate. The EVNROLL 11 is pretty face balanced, which I normally prefer a bit of toe hang, but wanting the larger mallet I thought I’d see how I did with this. As a result, the Ex-Putt Data shows I was not quite as consistent in closing the face as I would normally be. Unfortunately some of the screens were chopped off by my not so excellent framing...ha and the ones that showed a out to in aren't shown but the overall number on EX-Putt show that for me. This shows the results of inside 10 feet not being quite as good as the others. But there was one outlier which was probabl my first putt which Ex Putt can take a stroke or two to get the feel of. On the Course 7 of 10 This is what it’s all about right, driver for show and putt for dough…Ok, my 2nd and I promise last corny analogy. Did the putter help my scores on the course. In short no, but also a quick overall it didn’t hurt them. When I began the testing, I was a 17.1 handicap, at the end I finished at 17.6. Some of that increase was due do a few poor putting rounds, but some was also due to a period on course where I could not find the fairway if you held my hand and led me out to it. But as in all good things, my driving returned then my iron play went south, then it returned, and the putting took a vacation. We all know how those go. So the point of it is the putter was solid on the course, nothing that I was going to break over my knee, but also certainly not a miracle worker. A sampling of the cards below show (we played some starts shotgun, so they aren't perfectly aligned The Good the Bad and the In-between 18 of 20 The Good with this has a few things: · First the quality of the build, Evnroll has always put out quality putters and it didn’t stop here, from the graphics, the milling on the face, the paint and just overall quality. · Size, I like mallets as I mentioned, and this is up there with the biggest of them, so if you’re a mallet guy, you will like this size and shape. · The convenient ball picker up. Come on admit it, we all get lazy at least a few times during an 18-hole round. And who hasn’t tried to do the smooth walk by and scoop with a blade style putter only to have it go flying 15 feet in front of you, and you’re chasing down like a runaway grocery cart. No such issues here, just pluck it up with the convenient size COG hole in the sole and be on your way to the next tee. · The feel is incredibly soft, I like a soft feeling and sounding putter, and this met that criteria. The Not so Good: · For me the area it lacked in most was 10 feet in and in. You will see on the one Ex Putt Chart it did great from 10 to 20 feet. And while that is nice to see, I don’t expect to make those putts. But from 10 feet and in, I expect/hope to make more than my fair share. This one was not quite as consistent from that distance, something I saw on the course as well. · I’m not so sure I felt any difference with the gravity grip or not, which I believe is a $25 upcharge. Play It Or Trade It 17 of 20 So I have gone back to my Scotty Flowback as my everyday putter. But I have taken this out for a few holes when I’m just practicing seeing if anything has changed with it or not. And it’s just as solid as it was before, but still not consistent enough from that 10-foot range for me to put it in play in league or tournaments. I think someone who is not as much of an arc swing as me would find this a good fit. As I mentioned I need a bit of toe hang to help me really rotate the face consistently. I’m convinced it won’t be my last Evnroll putter. I have on my bucket list to visit it’s HQ when I’m out in Carlsbad next for an in person custom fitting and see what comes out of it. Their products are just as good build and quality of any other putters in this price range. INTRODUCTION July 2023 I’m guessing many of you already know as much about me as you care to. But for the newcomer, I’ll try not to bore you too much. My name is Rob, the screen name is a shortened version of CarolinaGolfer2, which was my screen name before becoming a staff member. I live in the Baltimore/Annapolis/Washington DC area, kind of in the middle of all three. I live with my Fiancé Michelle we have been tighter for 28 years but don’t have any kids. By default, I am a Washington football fan, still have a hard time calling them the Commanders, and Nationals and I’m a mild Capitals fan. But I spent many of my after college years in the Chapel Hill/Raleigh area, thus the screen name. The Maryland area is great for golf, we get to play 12 months of the year, even though we may run into a few of snow closings in January or February. By day, I’m the Tournament Sales Director at a 36-hole course in Maryland. I run over 150 outing a year and it keeps me very busy. But somehow, I have managed to play a fair amount of golf, and demo a few clubs here and there My experience in the industry has allowed me to take some fantastic trips to most of the major OEM’s and attend the PGA Show just about every year (pre covid) and meet some incredibly smart and wonderful industry people. Pictured Below with an extra 60 pounds vs now, I'm with Josh Talge the Director of Marketing for Titleist and a huge fan of MGS I found the site in a bit different way than others who found it searching reviews of clubs. in 2016, I came across a rather “spirited” twitter exchange between Adam and someone. I found Adam’s points very strong but very well made and seemed to make sense to me. Prior to that I had only heard of MyGolfSpy as being a rogue site that specialized in putting out leaked or unauthorized photos of new equipment. Just goes to show, you certainly can’t believe everything you read on the internet, especially when it’s a competing website/forum. So, I looked at the article in question, can’t recall what it was now, but it was typical MGS style, making you not take for granted what the industry has always said. I noticed the forum tab and jumped over there. I found it to be very friendly, but also very lacking in participation. I mean I read pretty much 4 months’ worth of posts within the first couple hours, and a couple days in, I had read pretty much everything back for several years. You could go an entire day on the forum and see maybe 40 or 50 posts in the entire forum. My how things have grown and changed. Thanks to all the great members here! I was lucky enough to be picked for a test after about two weeks of being a member, I was shocked. It was for the Precision Pro Golf Band. An early version of a GPS watch, although it was more of a Fit Bit style than watch. About 6 months later I was one of the original EVNROLL Testers along with JLukes @revkev and @fozcycle, which was a great experience, and really confirmed to me what a great community this was. Below is a shot of two of my bags after the 2016 EVNROLL testing, yeah, It's not uncommon for me to have two different bags, these happened to have be two of my all time favorite setups I first became a staff member in 2017, I believe and a year later became Co Director of the Forum with @STUDque Last year, I stepped back from the role due to the workload at my day job and became more of a as needed on call Moderator. I have stayed on to help with things like the Major Contests or any other special contests/projects. I have organized the first two official MGS National Outings in 2022 in Maryland and this year in Pinehurst. We grew from 12 in 2022 to 16 this year, I think. I’m hoping for a bigger and better one in 2024. I have said many times over and over, the members here are the best asset we have. They require very little moderation and allow the staff time to focus on things they want to do to try and make it the best forum in the industry. I have met many members and made several friends here, I travelled to Ohio to join s small group there for a round of golf and some incredible pizza! I played with Foz in Florida, and went north of the border to play with Ball Coach Jeff along with Matt from TXG. I have tested many clubs for MGS over the years, but when @GolfSpy BOS told me they needed a moderator spot for this test, he didn’t have to ask me twice. It’s no secret the number of irons and drivers that go in an out of my bag. But putter has remained the most stable. Putting is the absolute strength of my game. My current Scotty Cameron Special Select 1.5 Flowback, has been in the bag for 2 seasons now. I will be testing the EV11 against it I really like the full mallet style and have done well with them in the past. I’ll be testing the EV11 on course, the putting green, EXPutt to get some stats and possibly Trackman. Popular Post JudgeSmails
EVNROLL Putters – Official MGS Forum Review by JudgeSmails First off, a HUGE Thank You to MGS and EVNRoll for letting me be part of this review. I was extremely excited to find out I was chosen, I’ve never done a putter test in the forums and have always wanted to. My real name is Scott, but most of you know me as JudgeSmails. I’m a 47yo dad to 3 awesome girls and obviously a golf nut. I play whenever I can, which is usually the weekends with my golf buddy Josh ( @josmi15 on here). The Personal Questions -What region do you play out of? Live in Fort Wayne, Indiana and play the local courses -How long have you been golfing? About 20ish years, but definitely taking the game more seriously the last 6-8 years. -What kind of golfer are you? I’m out there to have fun, but definitely want to get better and be competitive The Golf Questions -How do you want to test this product? Will be tested on practice green and during round play -What are your plans for the review and comparisons? Head to Head w/ my current gamer -What will make this product stay with you after testing? If it’s better, or at least a better fit for me, it stays….the numbers don’t lie, let’s see what happens -Why are you excited about testing this product? I’m absolutely stoked!! If I had to pick my dream test, it would have been an EVNRoll putter test to be selected for -What do you know about the product already? I have actually owned an EVNRoll before, loved the feel, but the model probably wasn’t a good fit (ER3) -What are your expectations? I’m pretty comfortable with my current gamer, i think it will be a good matchup For my game, Putting has been a real struggle and frustration point. I consider it the weakest part of my game. At one point, I went through like 5 putters in like 2 years. . My biggest struggle was just hitting a damn 6 foot straight-in putt, I just couldn’t do it and had ZERO confidence over the ball. A couple years ago, I did 2 things; bought yet another putter and switched to left-hand-low. My putting has definitely improved some. It’s still a weak point of my game, but it’s not the complete dumpster fire it was 3 years ago. I feel the left-hand-low has helped with my distance control. I’m still missing way too many of those short straight putts, but I am making more than I used to. Confidence level has gone up some, but is still lacking. My current gamer, which I’ve been using for the past 2 years over this slightly improved stretch is a Mizuno M-Craft V. I like it’s compact mallet shape and it has a nice feel to it. Mizuno putters are pretty underrated in my opinion. The model I’m going with for this test is the EV8. It has a very similar compact mallet shape to my current putter. One of the great advantages to this line of putter, is the availability of different shaft/hosel combos you can order. I had a fitter check my putting stroke and I will be going with a hosel combo that will give a little less toe hang than my current Mizuno. I have very little arc in my stroke, and was advised I need little to no toe hang, so I’m going with the long-plumber neck which will give this model 20* of toe hang (according to their website). That is the lowest amount of toe hang you can get on this model. I think this will be a great comparison as the putters are very similar, but will the reduced toe-hang and sweet face technology improve my lackluster putting? Stay tuned and find out. First Impressions (19 out of 20) I chose the EV8 model for a couple reasons. I generally like that small mallet shape and it’s extremely close to the putter I play now (Mizuno MCraft V), so I felt it would be a great comparison. The main difference between the 2 will be the hosel. I had a fitter watch my stroke, and he said I could probably use a little less toe-hang. So on the EVNRoll, I went with the Long Plumber neck which gives the lowest toe-hang at 20*. The current Mizuno has a short slant and I’m guessing about 35* toe-hang. Here are the specs on both putters. My first impression upon receiving the putter was that it was solid looking. I love the small mallet shape and the satin finish, and the design is kept pretty simple throughout the head, nothing too flashy. One thing I immediately noticed was that I really like the TourTac grip. It’s a great shape and feel, just seems to sit nice in my hands. If I had one complaint about it, I’d maybe wish the grip was just a tad bigger, or at least they had a bigger size available. I won’t spend much time on the headcover, it looks and feels nice, like you would expect when you buy a premium putter. The closure is magnetic, which is a big plus. The day I got the putter I went straight to the practice green to at least get a few putts in. One thing I noticed immediately was that the head felt lighter than my mizuno. Both are listed at 355g in weight, so it must be the hosel and/or the grip that give it that feel. At this point, I wouldn’t say that’s a positive or a negative, just something that was noticeable. I had a pretty good session and got fairly comfortable with the putter, so that I could take it out for it’s first round….which we will get to in the next section. The Numbers (38 out of 40) Before I did any head to head testing, EVNRoll would go in the bag and be my putter for the next 3 rounds. The first real test came on hole #2 of the first round. I was on the green, but had a long right to left putt to try and get down in 2 for my par. 20230819_081732.mp4 And there it is! A perfect lag leaving an easy par. First test PASSED From that point, things only got better. I am pretty much a 1 birdie per round type player, I’ve never been good at cashing in on my opportunities. Well on this day I cashed in for 4 BIRDIES (although one was a chip in to be fair) and the following round I had 3 BIRDIES on the front 9…. Birdie Video.mp4 A couple of those 7 birdies were long bombs and the others were 7-10 footers. Being able to cash in those opportunities has given me a ton of confidence with this putter. The 3rd round I didn’t have any birdies, but didn’t really give myself any great opportunities either. I did cash in some par save putts though. Between the 3 rounds I did have a few 3 putts, but who doesn’t. A couple of those 3 putts were from the fringe on the complete opposite side of the green too…almost expected at that point. My Confidence on the greens with this putter in my hands had gone way up in the 3 rounds I used it. It’s not like I don’t like my current gamer either, that Mizuno has been a great putter for me. So now it’s time to put them head to head…. Testing Method: I would go to the practice green and set up 5, 10 and 20 foot putts….as straight as I can make them. I would keep track of make/miss on all the putts and proximity of miss on just the 20 footers. I practiced with both putters a little beforehand and spread this out over 2 different days to try and be as fair as possible. I would hit 5 putts with one putter, then 5 putts with the other and so on. 5 and 10 footers.mp4 One thing I noticed in switching back and forth so much, the ball seems to ‘jump’ off the face of the Mizuno compared to the EVNRoll. The EVNRoll definitely felt a little lighter in the head weight, and softer, more muted off the face. On the 20 footers I definitely had to adjust for that and give the ball a slightly firmer strike compared to the Mizuno. That being said, the distance control once I got it dialed in was great. This may be the “Sweet Face Technology” kicking in, but I felt like I could easily repeat the same putt over and over. Here are the results of the test: As you can see, the EVNRoll came out on top, although Mizzy definitely stood it’s ground. It certainly wasn’t a blowout by any measure. After 300 total putts hit, the numbers are fairly close, but EVNRoll did manage to edge out the victory. On The Course (10 out of 10) EVNRoll has shined on the course. Made 6 birdie putts in my first 2 rounds with it and only 3 total 3 putts. I have a lot of confidence standing over 5 footers with this putter in hand, I can’t always say that was the case before. Most of my misses from inside 10 feet are burning the edge and I’m leaving manageable 2nd putts from all over. Here is a comparison, last 3 rounds with the Mizuno in the bag, and the first 3 rounds with EVNRoll…. I wouldn’t say I’ve been putting bad with the Mizuno either, it’s honestly a great putter as well. My 2nd round with EVNRoll in the bag, I shot my lowest round ever and had 8 1 putts, including 3 birdies. It’s hard for me to deduct a point here, so 10 it is. The Good, the bad, the inbetween (18 out of 20) GOOD: Putter has a great look and feel to it. The sweet face technology, to me, works and lives up to the hype and helps with consistency. Big fan of the Tour Tac Grip. Having all the hosel options when ordering is a great feature. BAD: Only one negative I can find so far. One of the big selling points of the V-Series line is the 6 different hosel options and they are interchangeable. Much like any modern driver, you can remove the head from the shaft/hosel with one screw. Say you ordered the short slant hosel but you want to try out the plumbers neck, you have the option. HOWEVER, these shaft/hosels are nowhere to be found on their website. I did enquire with support how I would go about ordering a different combo and they said I could do that over email. That’s fine I guess, but seems like it could be something we could just order on the website. Here’s the email exchange with prices… The Inbetween: The price…at $420 it’s definitely on the higher end of putter prices, but certainly not unheard of in today’s market. Play it or Trade it? (20 out of 20) The sample size may be kind of small, but the numbers don’t lie. I really like my Mizuno M-Craft putter, but the EVNRoll edged it out on the course and in testing. I have a lot of confidence standing over putts with my EV8 in hand, that I haven’t always previously had. I will definitely keep looking at my putting numbers going forward and likely keep Mizzy around as a backup. EVNRoll stays in the bag! FinalVid3.mp4 Conclusion Putting has always been a struggle. I was so happy to get picked for this test, it is exactly the test I would have chosen over any other. . The EVNRoll EV8 did not disappoint. From first round birdies to the testing numbers, it came out on top. I have a new found confidence standing over what should be makeable putts. The sweet-face technology seems to work in my opinion, judging from the consistent dispersion on putts of all lengths. If you’re in the market for a new putter, and don’t mind the price tag, I think the EVNRoll V-series is definitely worth consideration. Final Score ... Popular Post poprocksncoke
Hey guys, for those who don’t know me my name is Kirk and I live in Bakersfield California. I have a wonderful wife and have been blessed with 4 amazing children. My 8 year old daughter has finally become interested in playing a little golf now and then so hopefully I can get her to go out on the putting green with me to test out this putter. I began golfing at the age of 10 with my father and my grandpa at a small 9 hole course in Delano California. I played on the golf teams for Tulare Union High School and for Bakersfield College. Soon after college I started working at Wasco Valley Rose Golf Course and was elected to PGA membership in 1998. I worked at many different golf courses in my time as a PGA member but decided on a career change in 2004. Unfortunately, due to the career change I don’t get to play as much as I used to but can still score in the mid to low 70’s on a regular basis. Putting is my biggest issue these days, some days it can be lights out and others I couldn’t put the ball into the bunkers around the greens if tried (no, I haven’t really tried). I have always tinkered with different types of putters, blade, anser style, center shafted, teardrop, mallet and even a belly putter. Currently the putter in my bag is an Odyssey White Hot Sabertooth. My dad won this putter in a raffle at a tournament we played at, and I started messing around with it and kicked my Scotty out of my bag and has remained in my bag for probably about 8 years. It seems like when I do have one of those off days on the green, I lip out an amazing number of puts. I am hoping that the face groove technology with Evnroll’s claims of virtually zero dispersion helps me get a few more of those putts to fall. If they do, I’ll give my dad his putter back. Being around the forum I have heard about Evnroll for quite a while and have always wanted to give them a try. Everyone that I have heard seems to rave about them, hoping one day I get to rave about them as well. I choose the EV5.3 mid-slant due to the fact that it seems pretty close to the Sabertooth putter I currently use. Hey, and it kinda looks like the Jailbird putter that all the cool kids are using these days! I noticed I am the only one of the testers that chose a 33” putter. I am 6’ tall but have pretty long arms and having a shorter putter helps me to let my arms hang comfortably. Thanks to MyGolfSpy and Evnroll for this amazing opportunity to review the 5.3 Duo putter!! And now I just wait for the dogs to bark at the delivery guy, hopefully soon…. First Impressions (9 out of 10) When the wife texted me, that the dog went crazy at the door I knew something good was happening. When I arrived home it felt like Christmas, couldn’t wait to open that big box to see what was inside. The box did have a big crease on it but when I opened the box everything was wrapped nicely and in pristine condition. To no surprise it looked like everything I had hoped for except for the fact the head was a little smaller than I had expected but that wouldn’t deter me! I ordered the putter with the black shaft finish and the Gravity Grip. The finish on the shaft really enhanced the overall look of the putter. The Gravity Grip felt really good in my hands and not much different than my current Winn ProX midsize putter grip. Really liked the look of the Duo color on the head. The Evnroll had a bold alignment line that made it easy to line up and the fact that the grooves stopped on both the toe and heel seems like it made it easy to center the ball on the face of the putter. Everything was just as I had ordered and was ready to get out and see what this weapon could do. The Putter · EV5.2 Duo · Hosel: Mid Slant · Material: 6061 Aluminum (body) 303 Stainless Steel (face/front) · Finish: Black Anodized/Hand Polished Stainless · Face Milling: F.I.T. (Feel Impact Technology) Face · Lie/Loft: 70 degrees, 2 degrees · Length: 33 inches · Grip: Evnroll Gravity Grip The Numbers (38 out of 40) My current putter is an Odyssey White Hot Sabertooth. My typical miss with my current putter is a push. My hopes with the Evnroll and the Face Groove Technology will help me with those pushed lip outs that I dread so much. Took both the Evnroll and the Odyssey to the putting green to put them to the test. Thankfully I was very pleased with the results. While it seems my typical miss is still a push I think it has improved here. I also took the last 3 rounds I played with the Evnroll and did the best I could in tracking the distance and putts and the percentage of those putts made. One of those rounds was tournament play so I would say the Evnroll held up pretty well. On The Course (10 out of 10) 20230816_124409.mp4 On the course the looks of this putter translated well to the performance. The claim of the face groove technology seemed to work as Evnroll claims that putts not hit on the center of the putter will roll the same distance as putts hit on the center of the face. Most of the putts I hit from long distances came within a reasonable distance from the hole. Only outlier was from around 10 feet, a few times I blew the ball by the hole farther than my expectations. Of course, I have been known to be aggressive with my putts so that can be expected on occasion. From 5 feet and in I had loads of confidence in this putter. On occasion I still pushed a few but this is to be expected. I plan on in the future ordering some heavier weights to place on the toe and see if this will make a difference. My last round I played before writing this review was in a tournament. Ending up winning low gross and a dozen ProV’s in yellow (its ok if they don’t go as far as the white ones). The Good, the bad, the inbetween (19 out of 20) I was really pleased with the looks and the performance of the Evnroll. The head made it easy to align and the soft feel off the face let me put a good stroke on the ball without worrying about being too aggressive. On shorter putts the head felt very stable and was able to keep the ball rolling online consistently. Only thing I would change is eventually I plan on purchasing some heavier weights for the toe of the putter in hopes to completely eliminate that dreaded push. Play it or Trade it? (20 out of 20) Play it! Already had enough confidence in this putter to put it into tournament play. This putter is just so easy to align and feels so good. Due to the price tag this putter may not be for everyone but everyone could benefit by using this putter. Conclusion The looks and performance of this putter are amazing. The groove face technology works well especially with the longer putts. Even on the short putts I had more accuracy and confidence in my stroke. Thank you MyGolfSpy for the opportunity to test this putter. If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer. Popular Post Nolan220
First I want to thank the Forum mods and Evnroll to allow us to be so lucky to test these putters. And a quick shout out to @GolfSpy BOS for answering all our questions, preparing us for our review and taking all our specs to put the orders in, truly appreciated ! Well hello ... My name is Ed and live in Collingswood New Jersey, which is south part of NJ with my wife and three kids. I started in MGS in 2019 I believe when I saw an instagram add and I was like this is interesting. I lurked around for a bit on the Forum never posted and then I started to interact with everyone and its been great. I recently tested the Align XL golf balls from Golfballs.com, the Ben Hogan VKTR hybrid and the last one was Titleist T300, which are still in the bag. I started playing golf at an early age but I always had other sports I put infront of golf, and started to really play full time around 2019. I am a member of Riverton CC and try to get in at least 9 holes in a week but lately I been actually playing 18 every week. Being a member got me to be more competitive since I am playing in more tourneys and just a lot of side money games. I always kind of a Competitive golfer but now I getting really competitive. For this current test my weapon of choice will be the EV2B (the B is for Black Panther, it works 60% of the time every time) and my plan is to really test lag putting. Since I joined my CC which is a Don Ross course I noticed that these greens are really fast and slope all over the place, if you hit it to hard balls gone off the green, miss hit ? bingo bango balls gone and now have another 8 foot to save par. So I really want to test the how the miss hit if what envroll says that these clubs will reduce the miss hits and the pace of the putts for the long lag putts. I am going to compare the EV2B to my Taylormade TP red/white ardmore which I believed did really well in the mygolf spy putter testing multiple years ago. I have a BGT Stabilized shaft on my current putter which has preform really well for me over the years. Also the EV2B is a milled face where the TM ardmore has a rubber insert, I want to see the feel and difference between the two. If the EV2B does well in the lag part of my test I will have to keep it in the bag, but I am going to put it to the test and see how it comes out against the gamer and winner take all. I am really excited to test a Evnroll putter because of all the great things I hear about their putters, everyone I talked loves them and I never really got a chance to try one and see if their "Sweetface Technology" is really what they are saying it is. From what I heard and read about the Evnroll is the putters have a bigger sweet spot which reduces mishits, if this is true then I would expect this to be staying in the bag. I really expect this putter to perform well with the milled grind and bigger sweet spot so lets hope it holds up to my expectation! Just a little insight to my fitting process I went with the short plumber hosel that will help a golfer who misses left. During the fitting this felt the best one and produced the best results. I went with the gravity grip which is similar to the superstroke grip I use that has a 50 gram weight in the grip to help counter balance the putter. The gravity grip has a 70 gram rod in the grip to help angle the face. I am going to test this putter on the course during my rounds and on practice greens to go against the TM Ardmore. For the on course I am going to track ever putt and how many putts during the round against the TM Ardmore, I will play a round with my TM and also do the same tracking and compare. This test can be slightly subjective depending on how the pins are set up and how I am striking my approach shot but I still feel it will get a good sense of how the putter is doing. For the practice green I am going to head to head for multiple distances. When the hole is on the line those two footers can be tricky but also if you are lagging it well that can really help your score. To close my intro I would like to say I am holding Evnroll to the highest standards and this may be unfair but from what I read and heard from other golfers this should be the expectation. I truly expect the Evnroll to out perform my gamer in every aspect. Frist Impressions (20 out of 20) The Putter is an absolute beauty! love everything about the look of this putter the black head with the red and white logo really pops and catches the eye. The black shaft and black head cover really add well to the black out design. From a look standpoint they hit a homerun with the EV2. Once you get your hands on this putter you can see this putter was made really well and with high quailty materials. I got so many complaints of how the putter cover was one of the nicest they seen. The Tech behind the Evnroll is the "sweetface" tech that eliminates dispersion and produces consistent, "even" ball speeds from center and off-center hits. This really should help a golfer hit the line they want or close to it even if the golfer doesn't hit the sweet spot. This is something that should be a game changer for people have problems with having a consistent putter motion and strike. The Numbers (30 out of 40) The testing I did for the numbers also included a head-to-head on the course, which will be discussed below in the next part. The numbers here aren't just testing numbers the weight of the Evnroll is heavier than my Taylormade Ardmore by enough that I could tell the difference once I took the Evnroll out of the box. The Envroll has two 14G weights while the TM has two 5G weights, for me thats a huge difference. The difference translated on mostly during the rounds then the actually putting test. The Putting test I did 50 putts but instead of make or miss I added a little element of having the ball if missed stayed in a 1 foot radius of the hole which would represent a gimme. Below is a chart of the test where the TM out performed the Evnroll. This could be the fact that I am more comfortable with the TM but the Envroll did really well. So now was the big and most important the on course where pressure putts for money(if ya dabble in the gambling world of golf) come into play. On The Course (5 out of 10) Unfortunately for me this is where the wheels came off, and as I have multiple thoughts on this I think a little tinkering could make this better. But I wanted to complete the review before I did any tinkering to be able to compare the both further down the line for an update review. I played 8 rounds with this putter, and it was a wild ride, there were cheers, jeers and tears ! The putter on did surprising well with really long putts, now this could be really no pressure and just trying to lag it up there but I made a 50 plus footer off the green and 18 footer for birdie ! This gives me hope that I need to tinker with this putter a bit. Just some background I play at Riverton CC in New Jersey, its a Donald Ross course and the greens are tricky and fast. I couldn't control most of the putts during the rounds. I would have some that I thought I hit short and would fly by the hole. Just could not figure out the speed with the putter and with the Evnroll I had a huge miss left push. It came to the point where I had no confidence and was frustrating to putt. I mention this in some post in the thread but I believe my fitting was mistakenly incorrect, I check the lie angle and it was not the same as the TM. For note Evnroll built the putter correctly to the specs I gave them but I think my specs from the fitting was wrong, this is what I want to tinker with to get the correct specs. To conclude on this part at times I thought I figured it out but in the end I just couldn't find the speed of the putter which gave me no confidence in the putter. I did remove the weights on the last round I played and the putts were easier to control the speed but I would need to do more testing on it. The Good, the bad, the inbetween (15 our of 20) The good is I see potential with this putter I think it can be really good and I just need to do some tinkering on my end, ( remove two 14G weights, change grip, maybe lie angle adjustment). the putter feels good looks good but I just can't control it, so 2 out of 3 is good so we will see how it goes after the mods. The bad, I just couldn't figure it out, I think the since I play on fast greens the weight of my old putter and Evnroll is a big difference. I read lighter weight putter is better on fast greens and heavier putter is better for slow greens. My thought process here is to remove the weights to make it lighter which could help me control putts on the fast greens. Also I let me buddy use it while we were playing and his first reaction was wow this face is hot ! which I agree with. The inbetween is I think this could be really good for me if I tinker, but I think other golfers would really like this putter the feel was great and if you play a heavier putter this would work for you. ( if your get fitted correctly ) Play it or Trade it? (10 out of 20) I wouldn't trade it right now but It will not be in the bag. As I said during this review it needs to be tinkered so I wouldn't trade it, my goal is to get the specs better for me and restest it against these numbers. Hopefully you don't see this as a cope out but I really do like this putter a lot but as of right now I have no confidence in this putter how it is. I think the price might be a little steep for some, $489 putter for me is a lot but I believe this is going rate for higher end putters so its might as well be price correctly but just not for me. Conclusion To sum up this review, Evnroll putters are made of high quality materials from the grip to the head cover, the putter seems a little to heavy/fast for me but I think with a proper fitting this putter could really good for any golfer. I will be doing update reviews once I get this refitted properly. Final Score (80 out of 100) GolfSpy_BEN, TSauer, rkj427 and 9 others 12 Quote Speedzone Driver Tensei AV Blue or G400 SFT 10. Popular Post ParFore74x
Starting off, I’d like to say thank you to MGS and EVNROLL for this amazing opportunity. This will be my first time as an official tester for the forums and I am really looking forward to what the next few weeks brings. I have a bit of a thing for putters, probably because I can work on putting whenever I want to regardless of weather or if I am even going to a golf course or driving range that day. My name is Carl, I live in Northeast Iowa and I have a golf obsession. I’m 49 years old, have been married to my amazing wife for almost 26 years, and have a 16 year old daughter. I started playing golf with the intention of improving in the spring of 2017. Each year since then has been a bit more focus on improvement and over the last two seasons I’ve seen some pretty large gains and consistency which has only made me want to keep grinding away. I am currently playing at around an 18-19 handicap and am working to keep my scores in the mid 80s. I have a membership to the local munis which gives me access to three pretty good courses and I can usually play 2-4 rounds per week. I also try to hit up the range at least a couple of times a month and use a putting mat on my basement several times each week. Since putting is an easy element of the game to partake in every day, it became one of the strongest parts of my game. It also has created a tiny little obsession that I try to keep under control by not buying every putter that I come across. My current gamers include an Odyssey White Hot RX #7 that is in my bag 95% of the time and then a Ping Anser 2 that fills in when my putting is a struggle and I just need a reset. Other putters in my collection include a MacGregor M220 that was a gift from my grandfather many years ago, a center shaft Odyssey White Hot Two-Ball, and a left-handed Odyssey White Hot Pro 1. Last season was pretty good for me in terms of putting as I was able to get myself around 30 putts per round most of the time. This season has been a bit more up and down with my better putting rounds being 28-30 putts and my not-so-good rounds being like this past Monday with 38 putts and more burnt lips and lip outs than I care to remember. Is there any worse feeling than lipping out a three foot putt? The model that I have chosen for this test is the EV5.3 Black mid-slant in a 35” length. The shape is similar to the Odyssey #7 that I am use to and the all black look is one of the elements of my Odyssey White Hot Pro that I really enjoy. At 24 degrees, the toe hang of the mid-slant will be in between that of my current gamer, the White Hot RX #7 and my Ping Anser 2. When I met with my fitter, he felt that a bit more toe-hang than my current gamer would fit my stroke a little better. I am hopeful that the EV5.3 will be a roll in the right direction for me. First Impression (9 out of 10 points) Shipping container: Pretty standard issue corrugated box much like any of the other companies in the industry. Good use of a marketing and delivery tool on the outside without being too extravagant. The entire putter, from grip to head, was wrapped in plastic to protect it from any scuffing that could happen during shipping. Putter aesthetics: Very clean. I went with the EV5.3 Black so the head and shaft are all black which is the exact opposite of my regular gamer, Odyssey White Hot RX #7, which is satin and blue with a chrome shaft. The EVNROLL EV5.3 Black has a matte black finish with red paint fill for the logos on the face and sole and white paint fill for the alignment line on top, ‘EVNROLL’ text on back, and the model on the sole. Most of the paint fill looks great with one minor flaw in the upper left hand corner of the face logo. This obviously will not affect performance in any way but at this price point I fell that it is worth mentioning. I chose the EVNROLL Tourtac grip in an attempt to be as close to the SuperStroke Mid Slim 2.0 that is on several of my other putters. The Tourtac has a slightly different shape but is fairly close in circumference. As the name Tourtac implies, the grip does have a bit of a tacky feel to it. I actually found it to be quite comfortable fairly quickly. Head cover: Nothing over the top but plenty of protection for the putter head. The biggest element that I did notice was that the magnet seems really strong. It actually seems to take a touch of effort to open the head cover or to separate the magnet from the head of one of my wedges when I am ready to put the head cover back on the putter. Definitely secured when attached to the putter. -2 points for the paint blemish on the logo The Numbers (40 out of 40 points) First things first, I spent about 30 minutes rolling putts in the basement on the day that the EV5.3 arrived just to get an idea of how it felt. The first thing that I noticed was that my stroke needed to be a touch more firm to get the desired distance. Getting adjusted to this on the putting mat was not bad at all but, adjusting to it on a real green took a short bit of time. I also made sure that I was using the same model ball, 2023 Titleist Pro V1, to keep things as consistent as possible. I also put both putters on the scale to check weights and noted that the Odyssey White Hot RX#7 weighed in at 524 grams while the EVNROLL EV5.3 weighed in at 553 grams total weight. According to website specs the Superstroke grip weighs in at 53 grams and the EVNROLL Tourtac comes in at 90 grams. Taking the EV5.3 to a putting green to compare it head to head with my Odyssey #7 was top priority. It did not take long for me to see that I would definitely need to be more firm with my stroke, especially on long putts. I would take five lag putts of around 30 feet with the Odyssey #7 and then again with the EV5.3 for comparison. This is the point at which the different shapes of the grips really came into play. I made just the slightest change to my hands for comfort reasons and everything seemed to come together since I was getting the distance that I was expecting with the slight hand change and the increased firmness of my stroke. Putts closer than 10 foot seemed to come slightly easier with these changes as well. I attempted to use the modified hand position with the Odyssey #7 to see if I would have similar results but, it was not comfortable with the Superstroke grip. Subsequent practice and comparison sessions would start out similar with long putts and work my way to short putts with the long putts showing greater consistency quickly with the EV5.3. The 10 foot and closer putts didn’t see a lot of change in the beginning of testing but as I continued to get the long putts dialed in my confidence was increasing and the shorter putts were dropping as well. The ball comes off the face with a solid feel and clean roll while direction was right where I was expecting the ball to go. Now I know that I had to have had some off center strikes here and there but I never noticed any deviation of direction if I did. The SweetFace Technology seems to do a good job of correcting any off-center strikes and keeping those putts heading for their intended target. The face of EV5.3 does not feel as soft as the White Hot RX obviously due to the milled face. I expected that this would require a little adjustment from me in terms of comfort and feel but, it seemed to be an element that I became accustomed to quite quickly. On The Course (10 out of 10 points) My first 18 holes involved me taking both putters so that I could use the Odyssey #7 on the front 9 and the Evnroll EV5.3 on the back nine. I played on the course that I play the most so that I was comfortable and familiar with the greens. The front consisted of 20 putts with the Odyssey #7 and with the EVNROLL EV5.3 on the back I was able to take that down to 15 putts. Final score for this first round was a 49/43 – 92. The EV5.3 was making me smile on that back 9. The next five rounds saw me get myself into the low to mid 30s consistently with the EV5.3 putter with rounds of 34, 31, 32, 33, and 30 putts. For the five rounds prior to this test while using the Odyssey White Hot RX #7, I was in the mid to high 30s with rounds of 34, 35, 33, 34, and 38 putts. I am definitely feeling much more confident over the ball on the greens with my most recent rounds. The Good, the Bad, and the In between (18 out of 20 points) The Good: I love all of the aesthetics of the EVNROLL EV5.3 Black putter. The head and hosel undeniably have a “high end” look to them. I feel that the aesthetics inspire confidence while at address and that helps to get consistent results. The Sweet Face Technology seems to be the real deal, I feel that my putting as a whole has gotten more constant with aim and direction at impact. As for the TourTac grip, I have definitely become a fan since the shape and size are a good combination for my hands. For your comparison, I am 6’1” tall and wear a size XL glove. Having all of the weight and hosel options allows for a lot of players to fine tune the V-Series putters to their putting style. The Bad: For what I would consider to be a putter at the upper end of the spectrum for most golfers, I was surprised that it was basically just thrown into a box and sent out for delivery. I was a bit surprised that there was no foam or packing material inside to hold the putter in place. Interior dimensions of the box are 38-1/8 x 6-1/2 x 5-1/4 which allows for plenty of space for the putter to move around during transportation. This was noticed as soon as I picked the box up and could feel the putter moving around freely inside. To clarify, the putter had no damage from shipping I was just expecting it to be secured inside for a club at this price point. -2 points for unsecured club during shipment The In between: The price of the EV5.3 Black starts at $469 which of course will take it off of some golfer’s lists. Prior to this test, I would have never considered a putter at this price point but if I were in the market again I would have to give the EVNROLL V-Series an honest look. Play It or Trade It (20 out of 20) The EVNROLL EV5.3 Black is staying in the bag, absolutely no doubt about that. The aesthetics, build options, and performance make it the nicest putter that I have ever used. I’ve been using the Odyssey White Hot RX#7 for 95% of my rounds over the last six seasons and it will still fill in great for a backup. The EVNROLL EV5.3 inspires a ton of confidence and that makes it my new full-time gamer. Conclusion Putting has always been my favorite part of the game even when I’m not doing it well. It’s the one aspect that I can always be working on while on course, on the practice green, at home, or even in a hotel while traveling. I’m a big believer that a solid short game can make a bad round okay and make an okay round great. Confidence while putting is a huge aspect of that and the EV5.3 delivers in that category. I’m looking forward to many rounds of great putting in the future. Final Score: 96 out of 100 points. April 21, 2024 UPDATE: A little bit of a longish term update with a development with my Evnroll EV5.3. While rolling some putts in the basement this past week I noticed that the putter felt a little off, like something was physically loose. Upon further inspection I found that the two screws holding the two pieces of the head together were indeed a touch loose which was allowing the back piece of the head to bounce when I moved it around. I removed the screws completely to check the threads and they looked fine. There looks to be a light coating of a threadlocker that appears to be white. It tightened right up and of course I will now be checking it regularly to see if and when it does it again. Still absolutely love how this putter feels and I definitely feel confident standing over putts with it. I usually play multiple rounds per week and roll putts at home daily with it.
