A follow up to my last post.  Last Saturday played in my men’s assoc (96 players) and the game was Beat the Pros in ABCD scramble format.  Pros played earlier in the week but we didn’t know their score.  I was the B player as usual.  None of us knew each other but one of the nicest groups I’ve played with.  Our D player was in his 80s so played from the front tees and used a lot of his drives. Our team came in 2nd with a gross 63 and net 57.5, 1 stroke out if first, and we beat the pros by 1 stroke.  We also came in first in our flight and won 5 skins.

I played pretty well and except for a few middle jokes, drives were really good.  My chipping and mini pitches, normally a strength of my game was poor.

Played 9 yesterday and shot 41 (par 37).  5 pars and 1 birdie, but one blow up triple hole. Drives were great with 7/7 FIRs, 6/9 GIRs.  With 81-85% average FIRs the past 3 years, my struggle has been with 40% GIRs.  Have worked a lot to improve iron accuracy and it’s paying off.

Wow!  Fantastic tournament!  Great round too!

This prob can't help you but fwiw I've finally started separating in my head what we all "know" .. which is: practice golf swing at the range and play the game of golf out on the course.

I've actually recently practiced at the range letting go of my way too many mechanical swing thoughts of all the things I've been working on .. distilling it all down into just one simple thing that I can take to / use on the course .. and it seems to be helping...

Good luck!!

I'm king of the practice mat and fat shot on the course

Recently improved on the tee and on the green, but approach shots need some sort of course routine so I can think less and swing free and let the club do the work.

Haha that's me, too .. range hero / course zero 😆

That's also me with the weak spot in the middle - approaches and 2nd shots. But what you said at the end there is key .. let's do this!! 👍

Maybe give the Bridgestone Mindset balls a try? The No Putts Given boys seemed to speak highly of it for starting a routine...

Just the fourth 18 hole round of my life, and I did something I have never done before - ever. I shot two birdies in a round. Even better, I shot two birdies on consecutive holes, the 3rd and 4th at Sunbury. I don't have an official handicap yet, but Shot Scope estimates it at 28. So to be -1 after 4 holes (par - bogey - birdie - birdie) was just incredible. Predictably, the wider array of my golf shot repertoire caught up with me, and I still ended up 28 over for the round, thanks in no small part to scoring 34 for the last five holes.

For a moment, I was living the dream of being a proper golfer. My playing partner chided me for being down on my round, since it was my best ever 18 hole score. But when you have tasted birdie after birdie...

Congrats on the personal best! Focus on the positives and how to do that more than what happened over the last five holes.

Thanks Jacob10 for the encouragement to focus on the positives. The good thing about using Shot Scope is that it gives me the positives but it also gives me the negatives in excruciating detail. For example, my short game is six strokes gained over a 25 handicapper, while my driving and approach shots are there or thereabouts. It's my putting that is letting the side down - 8 strokes down. And here's where the excruciating detail comes in: 7.7 strokes is the stuff under 10ft. For some unidentifiable reason, I do better when I am 30+ft away from the hole. So you are going to see me on the putting green, putting in the hours. And the putting mat. And the driving range. And the short game practice area. Because I want to move up a whole tier and compare myself to those big boys on 20 handicaps...

Speaking of handicaps...

I've entered into some sort of alternate dimension where par seems to be in play.   Not complaining, but I'm half wondering if I may be dreaming.   😄

Played the little exec I learned to play on.   A little Par 33 that's a lot of fun and a reasonable challenge.   Made par through the first 3 and left a putt for birdie in the Jaws (if it was a freshly cut hole it would have dropped).   Made bogey on the long Par 3 5th which I'm happy with because I had to hit a hooded chip from next to a tree trunk to get on the green.   Chipped in for Birdie on 6, made another on 7.  At this point I was -1 and I got greedy.  Tried to stuff the tee shot on 8 in close to the pin and short sided myself to walk with bogey then did the same with my second shot on 9 to finish +1.  I know this run won't last forever, but man it's been fun.

Nice round!  And it CAN continue.  Just aim for the middle of the green and you end up -1
