Peaksy68
Played a sort of new course for me on Sunday. https://www.lonsdalelinks.com.au/cms/course/hole-1/ The course has been redesigned since I last played it, with a new 9 and significant chances to the original 9. For some reason they decided to have “signature “ rectangular greens. Personally, I don’t think this adds anything but doesn’t detract either. Lots of severe slopes and ridges on the greens, and pretty much impossible to run the ball onto lots of greens which is a little strange as it’s supposed to be a links style. Anyway, to the golf. Started with a birdie after a poor second caught the slope and rolled down to about 10 feet. A good start but then went backwards. Lost my swing for a few holes, drove poorly. Greens were very dewy which made it hard to judge speed. A lack of familiarity with the course probably didn’t help my game, really uncertain where to hit it on a few holes. Conditions we’re very calm which is a rarity for this course, it could get very tough when the wind is up. Finished 13 over, which was a little disappointing but not too bad for a first time playing there. Highlight was a 5 iron to 10 feet from 175 yards. Swing and setup changes are starting to feel more normal MaxEntropy, Rickp, M. Curtis Atkinson
Got out yesterday and continued string of pretty good golf. Six of my current handicap rounds are in my last eight total rounds. Midway through my last round I found a little something in swing setup and started hitting the ball much cleaner. That continued today, especially early. Actually ended up playing a draw which is an issue as I've always played a fade so figuring out that change off the tee was interesting. Almost played my first triple bogey free round until 18. Approach game and chipping/pitching felt really good. (also completely stole @edingc's round summary notes because it's so concise) 43/47 = 90 (+19) 1/14 FIR (7%) 4/18 GIR (22%) 33 putts (13 2-putts, 4 1-putts, 1 3-putt) Highlight: 3 par saves and a beauty of an approach shot from massive incline from 125 yards out with a 6-iron that I drew to 20 feet I'm actually heavily considering joining a club today that's about 45 minutes from me with a couple courses, pretty affordable and hoping to be able to spend more range time so I can actually hit driver off the tee instead of hybrid lol. Popular Post Grand Stranded
So let’s talk about playing golf after taking a lesson, shall we? I’ve been sensing my game is getting back on track lately. My back feels good, I’m happy with my equipment, and my ball striking is getting back to where I want it. I’m getting back into a nice playing routine again after weeks of back issues. Looking to build upon these things, I had a lesson yesterday with my teacher. He’s very good, I like him, and without him I don’t know if I could’ve gotten back to this point, but here’s my issue… He’s watching me warm up, I’m hitting 7 irons straight at my target, one after the other, and feeling great about it. I’m peppering a green that’s front is 140 yards away. My confidence is high. Now we begin our lesson. This guy apparently has a lot more confidence in my ability than I do, as he’s always telling me I’m “this close” to being a solid single digit player. I get that he wants to push me to get there, but I think he’s pushing a bit too quickly. He keeps telling me things like “I wouldn’t normally show this to a student yet, but you can handle it” Yesterday we went down a wrist hinge rabbit hole that supposedly would help me get even more distance and solid strike. I wanted to tell him I’d be happy for now just grooving what I was doing, but… an hour later I’m feeling lost. The move he wants me to make feels awkward, and I was hitting the ball like crap. I get the old adage about one step back in order to take two steps forward, but I think I’d be better off getting my confidence back at this point rather than pushing forward. Does anyone ever go see their teacher and he says “that looks good for now, let’s keep doing it until it’s second nature…” Why do they keep adding so fast? I realize we’re trying to build something here, but shouldn’t the foundation be really solid before we do? Ugh… this game! You make a great point about “being ready for the next lesson” and it’s something I’ll remember. In hindsight, I should’ve waited a bit longer before taking this one. It’s not a coach’s job to keep me feeling comfortable. It’s to make me better. That sounds so obvious, but the issue with me right now, and I’ve shared it here on this board and with him, is I’ve never struggled with a sport like I have recently with golf. Granted, I haven’t played those other sports in years, but for the first time in my life I’m seeing my body/age affect my ability to play a game. As my SS has decreased, I started swinging harder in an effort to get back some distance. Not only did that wreak havoc with my game, I think it caused the back issues I had. It’s a weird position to be in. I’m going to have to learn to adjust not just physically, but mentally to all of this. I need to learn to both push myself, yet accept what my limitations are, if that makes sense… Edited June 16, 2021 by Grand Stranded cksurfdude, cnosil, GolfSpy_SHARK and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: G425 Max 10.5* Fairway: GBB 3W G410 5W Hybrids: Paradym X 4H & 5H Irons: JPX 923 HM 6-AW Wedges: SM9 54-10 & SM9 58-8M Putters: DF3 34”

I am a year into short game changes and a month into full swing changes. I am still trying to incorporate the changes but I am not ready for the next lesson. ... We may be dealing with semantics, but I think an instructors job is absolutely to make the student feel comfortable, that said I do agree with you and a change will almost always feel awkward. In my experience there is no one way to teach and every student is different so fine tuning a lesson to match what the student wants and how well they are able to execute it is where really good instructors can make all the difference. cnosil you are an instructors dream, someone willing to take as long as needed and willing to put in the work. Many students get frustrated easily and need constant hand holding. ... Touching on GS's post, I would often find a student that was hitting the ball well with their flaws. Standing in one spot, hitting to one target with range balls and no consequences for a bad shot, can lead to a false sense of accomplishment. I ofter changed that by having them hit multiple shots at different targets. Say they are hitting a 7 iron to a 150 flag with excellent results. I would have them hit a 3 wood off the ground to a different target, hit a long pitch, then a 5 iron, maybe a full LW all at different targets then have them hit that 7 iron at the 150 flag and more often than not they were well off target. If I let them hit 4 or 5 more 7i shots they could probably dial it back in and overcome their swing flaws but of course they do not have that luxury on the course. ... Having trust and being comfortable with your instructor is an absolute must IMO. Feeling awkward with changes, struggling with lessons and taking steps backwards can be and often are all just a part of the process ... but it is up to the instructor to make you feel comfortable going through a difficult swing change. Can you believe that sh!t? He made it thru the entire round with only 26 putts! And that caused me to shoot my best round in about 6 months, an even par round with 3 birdies! what a dirty rat I tell ya, a stinkin dirty rat! Hmm. Things are most decidedly different in my household. My Ervin, he’s an ER7, gave me the best putting round in forever. He is most excited I was selected to test the ER11v and can’t wait meet his new sister Eva. Good luck with your Edsel. Rickp, MaxEntropy, M. Nunfa0
Due to going back to shift work and some terrible weather, I haven't been playing much recently. I have also been trying some new irons, Titleist T100, so I haven't been expecting much. I have managed to get three nine hole hits in just in the last few days and I was very surprised. for the 27 holes I am 5 over par and falling deeply in love with the T100s. They are so nice to hit, spin well and are super consistent. Looks like I have found my new sticks edingc, GolfSpy_SHARK, cksurfdude and 5 others 8 Quote In my cart Bag: Driver: King F9 9° - LH - Atmos Blue TS 6 Stiff Woods: King F9 - LH - 3/4 Wood - Atmos Blue 7 Reg Z U85 2 Iron Irons: T200 4 Iron AMT White S300 T100S - LH - 3-48* - AMT White S300 Wedges: Indi FLX- LH - 52° 56° 60° - True Temper Spinner Wedge shafts Putter: 2 Bar Hybrid Ball: Pro V1x Testing: Haywood CB/MB Combo Iron Set, 4-7 Cavity backs, 8-PW Muscle Backs, Nippon Modus Tour 115 Stiff, 2 Degrees stronger lofts. Popular Post edingc
- 41/38 = 79 (+7) - 7/15 FIR - 10/18 GIR (2 birdies) - 33 Putts (2 3-putts, 11 2-putts, 5 1-putts) One of the ugliest feeling 79s I'll ever shoot as I didn't hit the ball particularly well and got a few favorable bounces off trees lining the fairway. But I hit a few good short game shots when it mattered and sank a few big putts. I also strung together two solid birdies on No. 2 and No. 16, which are usually bogey holes for me. After opening the back with bogey on No. 10 and double on No. 11, I cruised with six pars and a birdie on holes 12-18. One of the side effects of the last lesson I had is that I seem to be hitting the ball too high with the driver now. It's definitely more accurate, but I'm getting too much spin and my distances have gone down quite a bit (at least 20-30 yards on good strikes). I'm going to have to get that straightened out. bens197, sirchunksalot, CarlH and 7 others 10 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 3.6 / Anti-Cap: 9.9 (Last Updated Sept. 1, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B.
