Who says you can't buy a game!!!    We started on hole #9, a 525y par 5.  We had the option of playing the hole as is, or having Troy Teal, a former WLD competitor hit our tee shot, after which our first shot on the hole is where his ball ended up.  So, we hit our first shot from 85y... !!  My wife put her shot 2 feet from the pin for a kick-in "Albatross".  -3 after one hole!!

There were other money-raising gimmicks; on the par 5 #3 holes we could pay $20 each and tee up from a circle in the fairway 200y out from the green... I put my ball on the green, but we missed our "Albatross" putt and settled for eagle.  

The greens at this course are very tricky; lots of slope and quick.  All of us had difficult time getting the ball to the hole on long putts uphill.  Oh BTW, we each bought 5 mulligans; we used them all and only made one count.  We managed a couple of birdies on our own but had one bogey.  We ended up -7 which was a tie for 18th out of 35 teams.

The good news is that the Rotary Foundation made over $30K for college scholarships for local high school kids.  

Sounds like you had a pretty good time and it's good the Rotary Foundation made money for a good cause. I had to watch a video of some of the holes on the course and I think just between there and Wine Valley, the PNW meetup is going to be a fun time for you all. 

The tee shots on 3 and 13 look intimidating.

I played a 27 hole, 2 ball round today at Madison Meadows in 3 hours 31 minutes... walking!  That's a Champions Tour event x 2.  So why does it take them 3 days to play half that much golf?   We got a break in the weather, so I decided after breakfast to take advantage of it.  I also needed a haircut badly so it was a twofer deal.

It's amazing how quickly the course in greening up.  It was 90% brown a week ago about 80% green this week.  Okay, so let's talk scoring.  TP5 42/39/44 and the Srixon Q-Star 46/41/40. I'm too tired to do that math, but suspect this would have me in dead last place at the Inspirion this weekend .  I drove the ball better than normal and putting was up to snuff but, a number of my approaches were offline left.  Those are especially irritating when they are pin high .

Advil and a glass of Merlot just now getting to work, and my wife has lasagna in the oven. The most pleasant smells are making me really hungry.

The last 10 years of my work days was playing in wayyy to many Charity Scrambles.  There were a few I loved to play every year others not so much.  No matter they were all for great causes!!

75 is his afternoon at my club from the Invicta tees and it was the best number I could have shot. Two par 3’s playing over 245 and a few par 4’s around 500 yards. Think I may go up a box tomorrow.

Useless?! Na na na. I’m not useless. I make all others around me look taller. Unfortunately I can’t make @Lacassem look more handsome,  nor can I fix his game. But I’m far from useless!

I’m really sad that I can’t go to the get together this year that Rob is hosting, but I’m looking forward to another future outing where I get a chance to square off with a few of you guys! Haha

Finally was able to get out at home for nine yesterday morning:

- 39 (+3) 
- 3/8 FIR
- 4/9 GIR (1 birdie)
- 16 Putts (7 2-putts, 2 1-putts)

Wet, windy and cold with tee balls plugging in the fairway in a few spots. It's been so wet they haven't been able to mow much, so some of the fairways were closer to rough length.

Pretty solid round overall. Driver was not great or long but I kept it in play and with a little luck didn't really hurt my approaches to greens. Couple of really bad shots including a snap-hooked Super Hybrid from the tee and one of the chunkiest irons I've ever hit from the fairway that led to bogey on 17. Hit a great 58 wedge to three feet for a hero-style birdie from the wrong hole after the snap hook, and had I not lipped out a three-footer to save par on the par 5 I was looking at a very, very solid round scoring.

I was supposed to play 18 this morning but we got an inch of rain last night and the course is closed again after being open for only two days. Might be another 3-4 days before it can open again, and even more rain is in the forecast. So far not a great spring for golf.

Shot a 39-40-79 Friday, only my second round under 80 so far this year (I average 4 rounds under 80 each year). Again despite a 4 putt and 3 putt on the back nine - how I go totally brain dead putting occasionally is beyond me, 26 putts for the other 16 holes. In my weak defense, there isn’t a single flat green on my regular course - unusual IME, but I enjoy the challenge.

Luckily I woke up early. I looked at the radar and I had about 4 hours before a storm would roll across my area. I was at the course at 7:45 which is 15 minutes before they open. I walked out onto the range to hit a few balls to warm up. At 8 they brought a cart over to me and off I went. It was an eirie morning everything was dead still and you knew it was the calm before the storm. 

I didn't have anything to eat but I felt like I ate my Wheaties. The first hole is 420 yards and I had a PW left into the green. The fourth hole was 362 and I had a SW left into the green.  It went like that all the way through the round. I think I got my new driver figured out.  My approaches were a little rusty which left me with longer putts than I would have liked but its early in the season. My lag putts were good leaving me 1 or 2 footers. I considered it a positive day. Two bogies and a birdie for a 72.  The birdie was almost a eagle. I was pin high in two on a par five with a 10 foot for eagle, but it lipped out and sat on the edge. I did miss some easy shorter putts. Kept missing right for some reason. I got to figure that out quickly. That frankly pissed me off. I felt like I two putted everything.

But I did beat the approaching storm. I was leaving the course when the sky started rumbling. I was on my way home in two hours. I haven't played as much this season so far but that's about to change. My daughters track season ended Saturday with the college conference finals.  She had a great season as a freshman with a boat load of points for her school and many PR's. (Personal records). The only bad part was the six hours drive home late yesterday.

In 2020 I finally broke 80 for the first time, then had to have back surgery that November. It was hugely successful, but my golf game has been slow coming back for a variety of reasons. Happy to report that thanks to a career best four birdies, I am back under 80 for the first time in two years! Should have been five birdies too, I 3 putted a par five for par…

okish = some really good shots + some really not so good ones

Started off with a solid tee shot that ended up +15 yards longer than expected .. ie. just past the scary fairway bunker and not the expected short of it. Then ... I was struggling to hit it solidly and in the right direction...

Third hole things started progressing and got a nice tee shirt off plus a solid second which carried the hoped for distance but pulled it left - which was to become a bit of a recurring theme...

Also had a few right pushes .. just to be fair and to make sure I'm not favoring one side over the other

Highlights -- ..a *very* firm and fast fairway rollout aided *CORRECTION: 254 (NOT 303; edit changes in ShotScope didn't save the first time thru...) yd drive! Oh- changed shafts and trying out an Evenflow Blue; really nice but not sure the 65g/5.5 is right for me. Will keep testing. Hit the green on next shot and 2 putted for a very satisfying par!  ...next hole short Par 3 hit the green, ball rolled past the hole, made the putt .. birdie! ...putting, after the first hole, was pretty good - was hitting the right distance on the first putts a lot and sunk most of the second putts (2 x 3 putts, though).

Lowlights -- lost 3 (THREE!) balls in 9 holes .. guess I was making up for _not_ having lost a ball in any previous round at this course, this season. ...and those left misses mentioned earlier - been working on those the past few lessons but clearly more work + practice to do!

Back at my course today playing with my wife and the couple we played with in the tournament.  It rained all day yesterday so they didn't mow anything; then they let the irrigation sprinklers run all night!!!  Today was sunny and they managed to mow the greens, but the fairways were long and wet; not much roll.  I moved up to the senior tees because I was tired and sore.  

Shot +6/-1 for a round of 77.  Par the first two holes;  #2 after a shank over to a grassy mound above a bunker, then my 60º to a foot.  I managed to triple the par 4 #3 after chunking my second shot into the water, then getting a bad bounce by the green into a bunker.  I followed that up with a 3-putt bogey on the par 3 #4 hole.  I started to get loosened up;  I made a birdie on the par 4 #7 hole with a long putt.  

I started the back nine with birdies on the par #10 and #11... remember the 2020 Birdie Challenge??  #7 and #10 were the two holes I failed to birdie all year, and I birdie them both in the same round today!!  I missed a couple of short birdie putts but I think I made about 100 feet of putts today; all the birdies and several long par saves.  I could see the line and that's where the ball went.  Doesn't happen often, but fun when it does!!

Last minute decision to go out and play today since it looks like it's going to rain all next week.  Played the front nine decent -- almost holed out from 97 yards for an eagle on the par 5 #3 --6 inch tap in for birdie (yes, I made it!).  Shot a 40 on the front with a double (yes, got to have at least one dontchaknow) .... back nine, the wheels pretty much fell off.  84 for the round.  Good news is that our 4some won (2 best ball, one gross one net) out of the 3 groups.  Someone else birdied #3, so I wasn't a recipient of a skin today.

... Haha pretty true at every level. I am convinced if we had to run up to our ball and hit it within 2 seconds the mental side of the game would almost disappear. I see NBA played that are wide open for a 3 point shot and take extra time, miss it more often than not. But catch and shoot in the rhythm of the game and the make percentage is higher because they aren't thinking, just reacting. In golf if you play the front 9 s well as possible that thought of not playing well on the back is always there, even when you keep it at bay. Every round is one bad shot away from a disaster. I just can't think of any other sport that is so mentally demanding with all the time in the world to get into your own head.

Actually I shot 38,38 76 - 2 bogeys, a double, 15 pars. I had several nice looks for birdie but missed them all.  Made a could of really good par putts though. A three putt and chunked chip away from a very good round.

 

The best thing was that it made me realize that I still have sone good golf left in my.

Finally got on the course for the first time in 2022, played 18 with some buddies in our music organization's scholarship scramble. I was pretty bad, but with only 3 range sessions so far I wasn't expecting too much. We used 2 of my drives and a fairway wood shot, and I sunk 2 putts which was nice. My irons were just terrible, like not even good contact never mind semi-good shots. Frustrating because the range the other day was pretty good and today wasn't. But hey - start of the season, so nowhere to go from here but up.

I played pretty well today - for me. No real blowup holes and minimal mistakes. If not for my putting I would have had an outstanding round.

Didn't know if I should post in the "How Did You Play" or "What Did you Practice" topic, but since I actually was on a course for 18 holes posting here.

 

Saturday here was mostly cloudy, blustery winds about 20 mph and high of 59. Went to a 6000 yard course with the intention of playing nothing but irons, as I am trying out a set of Mizuno JPX921 Forged with Nippon Modus 120 shafts.

 

Had to hit driver off the first tee, and then only used it on 3 of the 4 par 5's. Hit some irons very well, really wanted to get to know the true distance of each club, so I just hit them randomly to spots where I could get as many irons shots in, while still attempting to score somewhat reasonable.

Found out that I hit the 4 iron the same distance as my Titleist 818 21 degree hybrid, so that means something in that area of the bag would need to change.

 

Best shot was on a 163 yard par 3, into the wind where I flushed a smooth 6 iron to about 3 feet.

 

Weather here this upcoming week is more rain than sun, especially towards the end of the week, but hoping that next Sunday I will be able to get back to regular course and have a better idea and more confidence in hitting these irons the correct distance.
