Popular Post silver & black
First round of the year for me.... with a brand new driver. I shot 43/41 for 84. palvord
First 9 hole round of 2020 yesterday. It felt so nice just to be out walking the course. Ground was soft, which is to be expected coming out of winter, but it wasn't as bad as I have seen at other times. The ground was certainly helped by the cart path only rule for the weekend. I'm understandably excited by the birdie on #6, but am most proud of the bogey on #8. I shanked my 3wood off the hozel into the trees on the right and needed to punch out. I followed up my punch out with two less than mediocre swings and ended up 80yds away for my 5th shot. I managed to get up and down from there. Solid work from a bogey golfer. mr.hicksta
Played 36 at Turtle Bay yesterday, and it was still really windy, but it was dry. I only kept score on the Palmer course, as the shanks crept into my game on Fazio course. Always something! 88 (42/46) - Three penalty shots hurt me on the back 9, and inconsistency off the tee made things difficult at times. FIR 3/14 (21%) - See aforementioned comment about inconsistent tee game. GIR 7/18 (39%) - Not great, but seeing how I missed a few greens short it's actually not too terrible. Putts: 34 - Not a great number, but I was putted much better this round. My only 3 jack came on a par there where my first putt was 78 feet, leaving a 11 foot second putt, which I barely missed. SG putting was -1.810 and based on my last few rounds, this is about a 4 stroke improvement so hooray for progress! You'd think after being here in Hawaii for 3 years that I'd be used to playing in wind, but these last few rounds have been exhausting. If anything, I figure it'll make the mild days somewhat easier moving forward! Kenny B, CarlH, THEZIPR23 and 6 others 8 1 Quote Clubs, duh

Popular Post Kenny B
Walked 9 holes today with the old guys (yeah, the other old guys)! I've played with these guys since I retired in 2015. When we were walking off #9, one of the guys came over and shook my hand, and said "Well played! That was a great round." He's never done that before. I actually didn't think I played all that well. Although I shot 38 on the par 37 front nine, I was scrambling the entire round. I had bad shots on Sunday, and I still had bad shots today, just not as bad as on Sunday. So, here's how it went... #1 Solid par #2 Birdie. Good drive; bladed 2nd shot around bunker to front fringe; made 30 foot R-L breaking birdie Putt. #3 Good drive; iron to right fringe; got frisky on the putt; made 6 foot comeback for par #4 Pushed tee shot on par 3 to right fringe; tap-in par. #5 Topped drive short right on par 5; 3W to middle of fairway; Hybrid to 10y short of green; pitched on pin high but 15 feet left; made L-R par putt. #6 Good drive on par 5; pushed 2nd shot to right; shanked 3rd shot to the other side of the adjacent #5 fairway; punched wedge to 10y short of green; since the green slopes away and the pin was close to the front, I used my putter to make par. Lucky. #7 Bogey. Poor drive to the right; hybrid to 40y short of green; wedge to left fringe on a back pin; missed L-R par putt. #8 Par 3 playing 212; Hybrid to 10y short of green (trouble is left/right and long); wedge to back pin, 8 feet left; made L-R downhill putt. #9 Bogey. Decent drive on dogleg left par 5 but ball at dogleg on downhill lie in rough; punched hybrid down fairway; another hybrid into the pond; hit wedge for 5th shot to 6 feet and made R-L breaking putt for bogey. It was not a great ball striking day. I played the par 5's horribly!! However, it was probably one of my best, putting days. None of the putts were straight and I was seeing the line. I don't break 40 on the front nine very often, let alone shooting +1. palvord, sirchunksalot, CarlH and 9 others 12 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

If pitching wasnt spot on tonight, I would carded a 45 or may higher. Left two other pitches 1 foot ot closer. I didnt have a clue and not sure why as Ive been striking the ball good at the range. Popular Post MaxEntropy
That was a very intimidating view.... Pulled first shot badly, second shot a little short, but a good chip and one-putt for a double. Had a fabulous time with @revkev and @fozcycle and Al seemed like a really good guy too. Front none was pretty ugly for me, but hey, I have played 9 holes since last November and was playing strange clubs. I can only think of a few shots where the clubs were to blame (different distance), though. The rest was all me. 54/45 for a stout 99. I did have two birdies, but the rest was pretty ugly at times. The rentals were TS2 driver, TS3 3W, 818 H, AP3'S, Vokey wedges, and a Scotty Futura putter. I didn't really like the wedges much, but the rest worked out fairly decently. We looked at that hole from the back and couldn't even see the pin because it was hidden on the right side, just over a yawning trap, just under a ridge that bisects the green. It's 215 from there. It was 170 for us. I hit a beautiful 7 wood leaving a 15 footer right up the gut. Burned the left edge. Blake was awesome with that 3 wood - I thought it was going home with him for sure. sirchunksalot, JohnSmalls, cksurfdude and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 R flex - 44.25 Fairways: Ping G410 5, 7, 9 wood Alta CB red 65 R flex Hybrid: Ping G410 26 degree Alta CB Red 70 R flex Irons: Ping G430 7-PW, 45, 50 Alta CB black 65 soft R flex Wedges: Ping 195 S54, E58 Wedges and irons are - 1/2” and one degree flat Putter: Sacks Parente Duke 32.5” Ball: Titleist Pro VI or Callaway Chrome Soft X ls While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. Popular Post PMookie
Tale of two nines! To start, no driver, no 3 wood, no hybrid, just irons, wedges and putter. Played the Blue tees that were 6278 yards. 4 iron off of 14 tees.So...I was searching for my swing from my latest lesson. I could NOT find it on the front (actually played the back 9 first), and to make matters worse, I three-putted two greens. Shot 43. Nothing felt right.Back nine, I found it on 11 when I hit a par 5 in two! 4 iron, 4 iron. Birdie. I hit 7 greens, and almost finished birdie/birdie/birdie when my putt on 18 lipped out! SO close! Three birdies on the back! 78! FINALLY back in the 70s. Hit 12/14 fairways and 12 greens. I think I may have found my swing!Stoked!!!Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge., a Robert Trent Jones design. One of my favorite places to play. This reminds me of the Bob Murphy story where his swing got so out of whack and he was so frustrated he took off Sunday - Wednesday with no practice and just started playing in a tournament on Thursday and to his surprise, he won that week. He said it worked so well he did it again the next tournament and won again! He thought "That's it! No practice, trust your swing and just play". The next week on a Friday coming up the 18th fairway and missing the cut by 10 strokes he said he forgot how to even start his backswing, let alone hit a shot. It was then he realized you never actually own a golf swing, you just borrow it for short periods of time." That really stuck with me and gets me thru my bad rounds. cnosil, sirchunksalot, MattF and 6 others 9 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... AutoFlex Dream 7 SF405 Fairway: Qi10 5 wood ... Popular Post Jmikecpa
Second round of the day today was at Whirlwind Devil’s Claw. Hit it really well again and putted a heck of a lot better. Made 3 birds and two bogies to shoot -1 71. More importantly I surprised 36 in one day and ready for two more days of it. Also after 3 rounds with the new sticks the irons, wedges and driver are keepers but the 3 wood and hybrid need some work. The irons were exactly what I was looking for and I can flight the ball up and down on command, distance control is great and they are arrow straight. With a younger guy in the house I played back 1/2 set of tees - straight white instead of the senior chairman tees. That means 4 par 4’s over 400. It also means playing this hole from here This old guy held up okay going 38,39 77. Way more importantly had a great day and made a new friend.
