Things that make you go Hmmmmmnnn

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of things in life that make me go Hmmmmn .  For instance yesterday I got a flat tyre on my chook chaser on about the 12th hole.  For those of you that are wondering what a chook chaser is it's my ride on buggy.  Picture me hanging out to one side trying to spread the weight so as to protect the tyre - you know what I mean.  Doing that for seven holes takes a bit out of you and then there's the whole prospect of affecting repairs to said flat tyre.  That means sourcing and buying a tube, fitting it and putting it all back together.  That includes trips to the local gas station to pump up the tyre etc etc.  Just about had it all done, pumped up the tyre and was doing my SUV tyres as well when KA BOOM!  Oops over inflated the tube which when it blew up and cracked and destroyed half of the plastic split rim which now means a trip across town to buy a new rim and another 25 big ones for another tube.  So this buggy that was supposed to make my life on the course easier due to my dodgy knees has now had 5 new motors, 6 circuit boards, 3 tubes and a new split rim and it's not even 2 years old.  Thankfully the manufacturer extended the warranty for 12 months but I'm tellin ya this bloody thing has made me go Hmmmmn  quite a bit since I bought it.

Other things that make me go Hmmmmn?  Well busting a drive up the middle 260 -270 pulling out the pitching wedge for the 115 yarder to the flag and chunking it about 80.  Yipping a 5ft putt 15ft past the hole.  Snap hooking my 3 wood into the hazard on our 14th hole (haven't done that in a long while) Getting all the way to the course and realising my wallet is at home on the bedside table.

There are lots of things that make me go Hmmmmmn , what about you.

I still can't figure out why I can't break 80 as often as I play. I've got a boatload of 80s and 81s. The law of probability should be in my favor. The 80 I had at my club last week stung a bit since it's a par 73.

Don't put it on a pedestal. You're probably thinking about the numbers too much. Focus on each shot at hand and not your final score.

Awww don't make fun of the chook chaser Foz.  Please note I was not riding it or sitting on it when the tyre blew.  The tyre was over inflated and laying on the ground next to my SUV.  When it went though people were looking around like it was a terrorist attack.

Many things make me go hmmmmmmm.....

1. Why keep hitting driver when I'm hitting my 2Deep almost as long and a lot more consistently?

2. Why my wife gets mad and stays mad at me for the way she interprets things I say, when the way she interprets said things is not in any way close to what I meant or said.

3. Actually, that one makes me go "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!"

4. Beautiful ball striking one day, a bad case of the chunky-chunks the very next...

5. And the score is still pretty much the same....

6. 3 shots to get 585 yards, 3 more to get the last 4...

7. Why my college keeps asking for money 33 years after I paid my bill in full.  That's like Taylormade calling you a couple of years after you buy a driver and asking for an extra $50...

8.  Wait, someone keeps a driver more than 2 years?

9. Why my wife complains I have too many golf clubs, but can't with any certainty tell me where I keep them...

10. Why I have more golf shoes than regular shoes....

I overheard the annoucers at the RBC Canadien Open talking about one of the creek's on the course.  They said it was called "15 Mile Creek"  That said, I thought the Canadiens used the Metric system.  So the creek should be called "24.14 Kilometers Creek"? HMMMMnnnnnnn!

Many things make me go hmmmmmmm.....

1. Why keep hitting driver when I'm hitting my 3W almost as long and a lot more consistently? Hit my 3W about 10 yards shorter than my driver unless I really nut a good drive right down the middle, which isn't that often.

6. 3 shots to get 585 yards, 3 more to get the last 4...

9. Why my wife complains I have too many golf clubs, but gets deeply offended when I mention she might be buying too many decorative pillows (for couches, beds, chairs

10. Why I have more golf jackets than tshirts despite me almost never playing in less than 80 degree weather.

Edits in bold

Why my iron game has fallen off the face of the earth. And why my scores are still pretty much the same?

As a Canadian, we do use the metric system. The announcers wanted to make sure our American friends weren't lost on that one  :P

Why is it so hard for me to decide on , or figure out what irons I need to buy?

Why do I hate spending over $75 to play on a course I really want to try, when the little voice in the back of my head keeps telling me,"You know you will shoot a 105 right?"

Why do I get so happy now that my golf coach has fixed my slice and then IMMEDIATELY slice the ball when I want to show someone how much better I am hitting?

Why am I fine when the cart girl comes to check on us but am thirsty/hungry right after she is out of sight?

Why do I play SO much better when I play with scratch golfers?

I played a course that had a blind tee shot uphill then downhill. Port Ludlow across Puget Sound from Seattle. I striped one down the middle (of course) over the hill, and never found the ball!! I hate that course!

Courses like that suck ass. Especially when you're playing them for the first time and you've just gotta hit it and hope for the best.

This course had three holes like that.  My favorite hole was the blind almost 600 yard par 5.  From the back tees all you can see is trees and junk and literally not one glimpse of the fairway.  If you happen to find the fairway with your tee shot, which is next to impossible since it slopes severely from left to right, you get a 280 yard up hill second to a green and layup area that is completely blind.  I lost one ball all day and not sure how a 20 handicap could even play the course.

Courses like that suck ass. Especially when you're playing them for the first time and you've just gotta hit it and hope for the best.

I played it twice a few years back and did not remember all the blind shots that were required.  I played the tips this time since I remembered not being able to hit driver at all from the member's tees.  Even back at 7,200 yards I hit driver once all day.....3 iron got a work out and may need to be re-grooved.

Hitting what you think is a good approach to the green, watching your ball bounce on the green and when you get up to the green finding the bloody thing had so much spin on it, it sucked back off the green and down the hill and you're left with a 30 yard pitch back onto the green which you hit long and what you thought was a birdie chance turns into a sure bogey

Jesus thats a lot of spin. I've only sucked it back 5-10 feet a few times in my life. I'm pretty confident with it sticking right where it hits. Not sure I'd love having to deal with it moving all over the green.

I still can't figure out why I can't break 80 as often as I play. I've got a boatload of 80s and 81s. The law of probability should be in my favor. The 80 I had at my club last week stung a bit since it's a par 73.

I'm with Apprenti here. Don't add up your score or keep it in your head. Just try and concentrate on every shot and make the best of it. You will break 80 before you know it. I had a similar issue with breaking bar. I would still break it on occasion but would put too much pressure on myself and struggle the last few holes when I kept it in my head.

The shot I hit was off a firm sandy lie with a fifty two degree gap wedge.  I pinched it so cleanly and when it pitched it was into an up slope.  It was the perfect storm so to speak
