    How'd you play?

Got out for 9 yesterday as they had a tournament starting at 8 and didn't want to hold anyone up. Have been working to find the delivery of the driver swing after hitting very week and very wipey fades with way toouch launch and spin. First drive of the day was 255 just falling right in 37° weather so I took it. Driver stayed solid being able to control it better and get some better distance through the first seven holes. At that point I was going around pretty well. Three over nothing too special, just pars and bogeys. Then it happened. I hit the drive and had the holey speed training has been all about. Number 8 is a par five at a little over 500 an was playing about 505. Its tough to ever get close to the green in two unless you hit a long ball with water from about 90 to 30 yards out from the front edge. This round was a different story I hit the best and longest drive of my life by about 15 yards. Right off the face it just took off and kept going and even with dewy fairways took a nice first bounce. Ended up 295 yards away in the fairway. Lefte with 215 out. Finally I could go for the green, hit my 3 hybrid pulled it a bit and expected to find the bunker but it carried and kicked a bit right pin high on the green. The best part I sank the 12 footer for eagle on the last roll. My first eagle on year and first on a par five. Did I bogey the last you bet, but couldn't care less. Ended up at 38 for the nine and feeling good.

Crappy! I've gone two weeks without losing a ball; took them out of play because they were getting rather shabby looking. Today? Lost 4 balls; two of them new PV1x on my way to an 89. 'nuff said. I might have to take two weeks off, then quit!

    How'd you play?

So let me tell you a story. I invited 2 of my buddies out to my club to tee it up and have a good time, it delved in to a nerve racking, stress test of my mental fortitude. The gentlemen are great guys but just casual golfers, when they are playing regularly they can get it a round fine, however they play once every six months. 1 guy on the first tee topped his first two shots (total combined 3 yards) tees another one up, tops it again so bad the ball goes 5 yards backwards, yes behind him. At this point I can barely stand I am laughing so hard. So as you can imagine my expectations were low, just a nice round in good weather with good friends. Fortunately that changed as the round progressed. I made birdie on #1, I eagled #3 something I do once in a blue moon. Made 2 great pars on 7 & 9 with a birdie on #8. Make the turn in 32, my lowest on the front nine ever! I make about a 12 footer on #10 for another bird, so at this point I am -5. We get to the 11 tee and I know what is about to happen. I am going to make huge mistakes in the next 5 holes and be even par. So rather than just hold that in a let it happen I told both of them, "guys I am outta my comfort zone here, going to double 3 of the next 4." I even went a step further and text @PMookie the same thing. -5 pushing the boundaries of where my game is or probably ever will be, so holding on for 8 holes was going to be a chore. #11 is a tough driving hole for me, easy hole but I struggle with starting spot, there is OB right and I hit it about 40 yards left of the fairway in the junk, no biggie, been there many times. Try to punch out it hits a tree, so at this point my prediction is coming true. Chunk one from 50 yards, I am Nostradamus! Bounce blade the next one to 15 feet. And drain it! Bogey, ok that's a win. Next hole is short par 4, drive right down the middle to 38 yards. BLADE it over the green (hard to hit touch shots when your hands are shaking ). Bail myself out again by chipping in, back to -5. Hit good drive and good second to 3 feet on next hole and now I am -6. #14 is a 221 par 3, tough hole bogey is acceptable. Hit it in greenside bunker and missed 8 footer for par, back to -5. Make bogey on 15 from 78 yards, yeah that whole hand shaking thing, controllable on full swings, not so much on short ones. Chunk blade 2 putt. 3 holes left and -4 with -5 being my PR on the course. I know the last three holes there is only going to be one more touch shot, so we can navigate this. Easy par on 16, missed 7 footer for birdie on 17 and now I am over the one touch shot on 18 that I knew would be there. And it was short sided over a bunker. Only thing I could do at this point was make sure it got on the green. It did, but barely, hits backside of bunker and rolls down to 15 feet. 15 feet to tie my personal best and shoot 35 on back nine while walking around with my head somewhere detached from my body. The putt never left the center of the hole, it was pretty sweet. A little fist pump and high fives from the guys and I had my 67. Shout out to Paul for encouraging me during entire back 9. Accepting and knowing what the outcome can be and attacking that head on gave me a nice vote of confidence in myself and my game.

    How'd you play?

Personal best from the back tees at a course I play pretty frequently. And they had the greens rolling fast as well as some really tough pins; I think they had some sort of tournament going on earlier in the weekend. 38/43: 81 (+9, net -4) FIR: 6/14 GIR: 9/18 Putts: 34 Especially with the tough pin placements, I'm thrilled to go this low. And my buddy and I were both running out of steam down the back 9 because we didn't bring enough water and snacks, which lead to a few mental lapses. I was hitting it sooo pure, which just feels so darn good. A couple times I took the back of the green yardage because of a back pin and sailed the green, leaving myself short sided. My only triple of the day came after thinning a sand wedge over the green, which hit the cart path and bounced 10 feet back into some thick woods. Just a silly mental lapse tendency I get towards the back end of rounds where I'll be talking to my playing partner about something other than golf and just don't take a minute to focus on the shot before I line it up. Same thing happened on the par 3 17th, a 200ish yard tricky par 3. I flared it so far right I ended up hitting a provisional (which I was actually focused on, and hit it to about 20 feet of course), found my original and was fortunate to come away with bogey. All in all fantastic day. I'm not letting myself think too much about what it could have been, because it was still my best from those tees with a ton of really great shots. I was on two different par 5s in two shots, which I think is a personal best for me as well!

Looks like the lessons are paying dividends. After the last outing a couple of weeks ago (102), I walked 18 at Windmill and shot an 87. +11 on the front and +6 on the back. 44% fairways on the front and back, while not great, is so much better than it has been.

  8. Week 15: AT&T Byron Nelson Recap Another week and another new first time winner. Congrats to KH Lee on the ultimate going low performance. Fun weekend of golf to watch with a insane cutline at -6 (sorry Rickie) some weather to spice things up on the final day and some other names making a impact on our fantasy season. The trade master himself @blackngold_blood has positioned himself atop the standings backed by strong performances by both Spieth and Berger. He makes it 8 different leaders so far this season for the rankings and also just so happens to to lead in total fantasy points earned so far as well. Finally he also leads in most players rostered, but that isn't a real surprise. Either way congrats to him for making it to the top.... for now. Our top 15 YTD are below. High Scoring Team of the Week goes to @Lacassem with a whopping 274.45 points. He had 5 in the field and all made the cut with Berger, Kizzire, Zalatoris and Noren being his leading scorers. Another important fact to point out is that this is the highest total any team has achieved in a week so far this season. Well done! Not to be forgotten though is @thestiffshafts who also would have had the highest ever this season, but he scored a big 265.55. Needless to say these teams went 10-0, below are our others. Congrats and well done for this week! Our own cut line race heating up as well. A few things to note which have been mentioned, but it is worth reiterating. Top 35 teams make the cut, this starts with the FedEx cup playoffs. Points carry over from event to event in the playoffs so yes owning top 30 guys is nice, but it is really the top 125 that is critical. Included for earning top spots in the regular season bonus points are awarded to the top teams after the regular season. This means that Ranked Team 1 is not on equal footing as Ranked Team 35, to try and reward teams for their regular season performance. It is very important try and climb as high up the standings, which means some players who don't play very often are not as helpful as those who do. Of course everyone values all players differently, but when making roster moves keep that in mind. Top 30 in the FedEx will likely still change a lot between now and then. We still have a lot of weeks left and over two and half months till the trade deadline. That is a good lead into our players left on the Waiver Wire. Of course our winner was left on there only owned by 2 others. @xOldBenKenobiX has already thanked BNG for last minute swap, but there were lots of guys on there so good pickup. In total 44 players on the WW made the cut at the event with the top 5 being: Some names I wouldn't have necessarily guessed, but they put up some big numbers. Despite having record numbers for the year one number that didn't end up being crazy high was our league median. It came in a middle tier of 138.53. This likely has to do with the field wasn't full of some of the bigger names and many teams only had 2 or 3 in the field. Rather then doing close matches this week I am going to switch clubs and provide some new content for everyone. This is all pulled off the Fantrax site and I will admit I am not 100% on these numbers... they seem to be a few weeks behind. Either way hopefully some decent entertainment. Teams with most Birdies (over 500 YTD) Teams with most Hole in Ones: Most Top 5: Top 25s: Again I have a feeling they are a little dated as the total points don't quite add up, but either way nice to have a change. That is a wrap for Week 15. Next week we have our second Major and hopefully a great exciting week of golf (it is also Monaco weekend for the F1 so lots to watch) Thanks for reading and following along and good luck to everyone!

  10. @TBS and I along with others are heading to the PGA Championship this week. We have tickets for Saturday and Sunday. If anybody else will be out there, we would love to meet up. On our way out to Kiawah, we are getting to play one of the six Reynolds Lake Oconee courses where one of the Taylormade Kingdoms is located. While we couldn’t get on to play Great Waters (top #100 to play in US), we are going to play The National. Another course we are getting to play once we get into South Carolina and near Kiawah is Seabrook Island Ocean Winds golf course. Looking forward to an awesome end of the week and weekend. I’ll update with pictures from the courses and Kiawah.

  13. The Wannamaker Trophy is up for grabs. Hopefully Colin hasn't lost the lid . Interesting bit of history is that the trophy was in fact lost for a period of time. The 103rd PGA Championship takes place at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, SC. Will we see another first time major winner? Might a Zalatoris, Burns, Hovland, or Scheffler follow Morikawa's footsteps from last years event? Or, might we see a well deserving journeymen like Finau, Leishman, Cantlay, Rahm, Harman, or a host of others, get their first major? It's a star studded line up and should provide some good drama. I'm going with my man Jordan for the win. Who ya got?

    How'd you play?

My last few rounds have been kinda, ummm, interesting... It's been Hero vs Zero, Stud vs Dud, Hot vs Not, On vs Off, ..., well .. you get the idea... Very little in-between! Even my wife - who usually thinks almost any of my golf shots look "good" to her - remarked she hasn't been seeing many middle-of-the-road / mediocre shots. This is not round to round -- this is hole to hole. And this applies to every club in the bag ... only the putter has been somewhat steady through a round, although there have been too many 3-putts (rarely a major error; typically a slight mis-read or a slight mis-stroke). Playing from the forward/Senior tees (67.8/130, 5730 yds) I can make a Par or I can make a Double or Triple (or some sort of "Other"!)... Anyway, on the bright side here's a "there's a first time for everything" highlight ... This a (-potential-) Eagle Putt (!!!) on a short Par 5 (or a really long, for me, Par 4) at about 432 yds from those Green tees (the course has other Par 5s over 500 yds). Nailed the tee shot, got some rollout and caught a bit of a downslope, too; then nailed the second shot (5 hybrid) to the front left of the green and the ball rolled up a little further. And, yep... juuust missed the approx 15ish foot slightly uphill then slightly downhill and strongly left-to-right breaker, but had an easy birdie (or par). Def not disappointed with it, tho, as I'm pretty happy with having pulled off those two nice shots in a row - especially the approach shot! You can see a bit of bunker on the left, and behind it cutoff in the pic is a higher fescue covered mound; you can see the green is longer than wider, and everything slopes to the right towards the water. Another positive (to offset the grouchiness at the start ) is I'm starting to hit .. occasionally .. my 7i nicely; used it on two approaches in my last round and hit the green both times (whoo-hoo!).

  23. On the 18th hole my drive held the left edge of the fairway, but when it landed it bounced left into the rough. I had 145 to the center of the green with a back pin location. I hit my 9 iron to within a foot. Best part about it was right behind the green is where the pro shop and golf carts are. As soon as I pulled up to the green a bunch of golfers getting ready to head out and a few on the practice putting green gave me a round of applause for the approach shot. Tapped in for birdie. Great way to end the round.

  28. The regional qualifier for the US Open was held at our club today. Our condo is directly adjacent to the first green - so my wife and her friends got to see a close up of the action everything from final cut and roll of the greens to the putting with each of the groups. I on the other hand was one of the volunteers ferrying the players/caddies from #10 to #11 which is about a 600 yd trek through the woods. As an FYI, this is a course that @MattF, @RollingGreens, @Mr_Theoo, @MaxEntropy, @Lakeeriegolferand @DiscipleofPenickplayed last year at our Ohio outing so I thought you guys would be interested in the scores. The set-up today was 6800 yds from the tips, Slope72.9/136. Note: weather conditions were perfect; mild temps, no wind, and partly cloudy. 1st place was 6 under, 2nd place 1 under. The next group who were in the green are currently battling it out for the alternate positions.

  34. So we should drop the Masters as it is run by a bunch of rich people an not affiliated with the tour and has a limited weak field from top to bottom? How about dropping the US Open since it is run by the USGA and not the PGA tour and allow amateurs to qualify. maybe we should go back in history and add the British and us amateurs. it is simply designated as a major or just another golf tournament that someone decided is more important because it pays respect to the non tour people that keep the game going at the grassroots level.

  36. You would need to get numbers on a launch monitor to really see what’s going on. In general the 3w is harder to hit than the 5w and with your distance with the 5w you have a relatively slow swing speed which will make it harder to get the proper launch and ball flight with the 3w to get it to go farther than your 5w. The bigger misses from the 3w are due to the lack of speed, spin, height that come from slower swing speeds and swing flaws. Could it be the shaft? Possible but again that is something that would need launch monitor and probably a good fitting. There’s nothing that says you need a 3w and since the 5w is working you can stick with that.

  47. Tremendous results from this weekends outing, the shaft and combination with the TS3 held up fantastically, I am a solid 250 carry rolling out into the 260's. I played today and yesterday walked 18 each day, yesterday the pace of play was great for walking which allowed me to conserve some energy. I hit 50% of the fairways and 3-4 were within 1-2 feet from the fairway playing in the first cut. Today I hit 7 fairways alone on the front 9, but fatigue caught ups to me on the back 9. I was roasted with the heat and it showed. my driver took the brunt of it. I chalk it up to fatigue causing the driver to drop off in performance. I don't have a launch monitor or Arccos currently although I am considering it but I did take some photos on the GRINT lining up my shot and the tee box the best I could to show everyone some of the locations and distances I have hit this weekend. The drive I hit on 8 is one I would consider as a "missile", I really wanted to go all out and cover the bunker, it was probably the first time since getting the shaft on the course where I really let it rip. No disappointment on that drive! . Yesterday this was such a cool drive to hit, the hole plays uphill, they're currently filling in the fairway bunker to the left and seeding over. Earlier in the year when it's windy no chance of reaching the green, the wind holes through the opening and it's right at your face or a cross wind. The woods are behind you so limited chance you are getting much assistance at your back with the wind. It's risk reward, if you are left approaching the green you are looking to be in a green side bunker which are quite steep, If you go right their is a marsh and farther right puts you in the condos. I couldn't have been happier with the results and even funner I couldn't find my ball at first because I had never drove it that far with the wind. I would honestly say it was that well of a struck shot on the face. Starting the day off on 1, hell of a shot to get the round going, perfect position, leaving me with a great shot into the green. I don't have much more real estate to work with before I run into the river lol This combo really impressed me this weekend. It even impressed my playing partners. I'll be honest with everyone at 5ft 6 this combo has allowed me to maximize my distance this weekend to keep up with some stout guys! The best part about hole 9, man it landed right on the 150 yard marker. Taking that marker out and tossing it aside for my shot felt amazing. Really culminated all the hard work I had been putting in with my driver.

  48. Here's my final decision and now I just need to let it ride and stop over-thinking things. Side note, I got bumped from the Radspeed irons to the Copper MIMs. Shout out to @Golfspy_CG2 for making that happen. Driver: I really liked the feel of the HZRDUS RDX Blue in the Radspeed over any other combo. What's crazy is that I only hit the Motore X F1 at big box stores with a 9* head. It didn't feel great at all. I put in the RDX Blue and it was night and day different. I also hit the ball so much straighter with the weight up front. I flipped it and started hitting hard draws. It was truly odd. The XB lauched a little too high and really ballooned on me. The range was into a slight breeze (8mph) and that was all i needed to see out of that club. Fairway/Utilities I'm going on a limb with the 3W, 5W and 4 utility setup. I actually thought the Motore X F1 felt decent in the 3W but it felt like it was more about control than distance. I'll need a little of both with my 3W since it will be used for position on Par 4s and tree-lined courses. The 5W will be used to attack greens so the Motore X F1 will be great to have a little tighter dispersion. Irons: This was the first time for me to ever see a MIM iron in lefty. At address, they really do remind me of the old AP2s. Very classic topline and a little offset. They really felt great, even with the range balls. I used to game Mizuno SELs and now I game the TaylorMade P770s that are foam filled. The MIMs don't feel as good as the Mizzys but they are pretty darn close...definitely a solid feel to them on strike. They do feel much better than my current gamers. I went with the copper MIMs and black PVD AMT X100 shafts because those will look fantastic in my humble opinion. Nippon 120s felt really good but I didn't see any performance difference than the X100. Wedges: They had a 56* in the chrome MIM and in the Snakebite. The MIM is a classic looking wedge and it suits my eye. I didn't hit any wedges as my time was limited and I couldn't sneak over to the short game area with them. Overall I'm excited to see the finished product and see the performance these sticks bring to my game. It was a lot of fun seeing the Radspeed driver come alive after a few demo session in big box stores that really left me discouraged. Note: There wasn't a trackman or launch monitor at this demo so I had to go off of feel and sight. That's not something I enjoy doing as I like to have data back-up my decisions. Oh well, I'll make it happen. They had irons for days for the right-handed crew. 5, 7 and 9 iron available in all lines. Lucky b@stards.
