  6. Played yesterday afternoon with @MaxEntropy at a course a little out of the way. The weather was great, but I had hoped that on a Sunday afternoon would be less crowded, but it was an almost 5 hour round anyway. I shot an 81 as I f'd up the last hole but played pretty solid the rest of the day. Just a 3 or 4 squirrely shots. I told myself if I could shoot my handicap or better (which would have been <78) I would register for the last section tournament this year. I kept that score out of my mind as I didn't realize that until I got home that if I would have birdied the last hole, I would have 78 on the number. I am sticking to the process and continuing to get confidence back. There's still a few more months of golf left so gonna keep it going.

  7. So, just to check at where we are right now, a few days out. 1: If you're on the fitting list make sure you go through the link Rob sent you to schedule and confirm the fittings. 2: Beds, after much consideration are likely to be first come, first served. Sorry for our late arrivals but at the end of the day it's just going to be a place to crash during our downtime. 3: Food options. The clubhouse does a breakfast menu, also lunch really, but typical clubhouse style food. I believe we've got pulled meat for Saturday lunch and a potential taco bar for dinner that evening, if we could hammer out those for certainties as soon as possible, that would be much obliged. I'm also down for a Food Lion run once more people get there to pick up stuff either people forgot or want for snack things if you're not bringing your own. 4: Liquids, a lot of alcohol on tap, but bring whatever you want to drink and again, if need be drinks can be picked up as part of the Food Lion run 5: A note from the contract, no smoking in the cottage or else we're getting hit with a massive fee. Also, I know and believe we were joking, but also no firearms or fireworks on the premises. 6: Gambling. So Jose and I are discussing like a blind 2 ball with handicap contest or something along the lines, so if anyone wants to potentially opt out of something, let us know. No pressure if you do or don't and the stakes aren't massive... just a bit of fun if we can. 7: We're in the week where this is happening boys... get hyped. Especially when we announce some stuff later this week hopefully.

    How'd you play?

Had a great time playing today with the Fam, even if the scoring wasn’t great. shot an 84 with a rough start and better finish, but overall didn’t have great command today. Putting got in a groove and I still managed some good shots in each facet of my game to go along with some duds too. The highlight of the day was watching Jackson play after having camp. Was cool to see the improvement in his swing and mechanics after just one week. hopefully getting back out there again soon!

  9. So I took a little a scouting trip to Queenstown this morning. The guys are in for a treat. The River course opened from its Bermuda Fairway conversion and looked great. Here’s a couple pics of some of the holes and fairways. Here is the great view they will have of the Par 3 second hole from their cottage deck.

  10. Wish we were able to provide more testing opportunities, unfortunately that has been taken out of our hands. I'll add it would be great to have all test something, but when we have 5k plus sign up for testing that just doesn't seem possible. I believe we had about 150 testers last year which was really cool. We also need to be fair to the OEM that provide it for testing. It looks really bad on us for selecting someone who doesn't finish a review. Plus sucks for membership to not get to see a review. Definitely encourage getting reviews on your own equipment!

    Got Problems?

I was so excited to get my new irons in today, Srixon was wicked fast with my custom order and got them here in less than a week! But, they showed up so wrong that they're not even usable for me. Now I'm hearing that my shaft, which we called and verified was available before placing the order, may be backordered for a few months... Ugh. It's my first time doing business with Srixon and the first impression isn't great. I understand everyone makes mistakes though, just hoping they're able to make it right somehow instead of me waiting months.

    Ping ChipR

I played again on Friday and the chipper got a good workout. I went up and down with it 4 out of 5 times and I can confidently say that I may have gotten 3 out of 5 with just my regular/irons wedges. It really is a fantastic option for someone like me who struggles maintaining or reducing loft on a club and really allows me to his more regular chips that run out rather than relying on a wedge to stop the ball with spin/decent angle. I can now play pitch shots with my 52 or 58 and then chips with my ChipR. What I do need to spend some more range time with is my new wedges. Moving from 50/54/60 to 52/58 means my gap wedge goes about 5-10 yards shorter so I need to dial in my partial PW shots, my partial 52 shots and then see if I can get comfortable using my 58 on some full swings - something I really never did with my 60. I am super comfortable taking less than full swings with my wedges, so it really isn't about comfort level so much as just learning my new yardages. It shouldn't be too much of a learning curve and it will be worth the payoff for the added shots around the green I now have in my arsenal thanks to the ChipR

  14. A Priest was being honored at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the parish. A leading local politician and member of the church was chosen to make the presentation and to give a little talk at the dinner. However, he was delayed, so the Priest decided to say his own few words while they waited. “I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place. The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set and, when questioned by the police, was able to lie his way out of it. He had stolen money from his parents; embezzled from his employer; had an affair with his boss’s wife; had sex with his boss’s 17 year old daughter on numerous occasions, taken illegal drugs; had several homosexual affairs; was arrested several times for public nudity and gave VD to his sister in-law. I was appalled that one person could do so many awful things. But as the days went on, I learned that my people were not all like that and I had, indeed, come to a fine parish full of good and loving people.” Just as the Priest finished his talk, the politician arrived full of apologies at being late. He immediately began to make the presentation and gave his talk: “I’ll never forget the first day our parish Priest arrived,” said the politician. “In fact, I had the honor of being the first person to go to him for confession.”

  17. Two beautiful holes back-to-back this morning for birdies. Pretty sure they are the best I've played both holes all season, not necessarily from a score standpoint, but from a swing/execution standpoint they were spot on. First up, the lone par 5 on the back, No. 14. Hit one of my best drives all season on this hole into a 10-12 MPH headwind. GPS had me 225 into the center of the green, decided to go for it with my Super Hybrid because I had a perfect lie in the fairway. Water short and right. Ball came out like a dart right at the pin and landed middle of green and rolled out onto back fringe. Chipped down the hill leaving a three footer that snuck in the right side of the cup for a really quality birdie. Followed that up on the short par 4 No. 15 hole with the best Super Hybrid I've ever hit from the tee. Really high baby draw that actually landed on the right edge of the green and rolled into the back fringe. Hit a perfectly crisp chip shot with my 58 to four inches and tapped in for bird.

    How'd you play?

July Medal on Saturday for me and started where I left off last week striking the ball well but started going off the rails at the 9th. Pushed 2nd from A one drive left me short sided and a double. Birdie 10 then a double cross on 11 for a triple. A part from that steady for the rest of the round for a 78 and a cut from 7.1 to 6.6. Playing at Largs GC on Sunday in my 3rd round of the Golf in Scotland series event. Largs was my 1st club when I was a junior so always look forward to it. The greens were the best I played in all year, slick and true. At 6150 yds off the whites not particularly long but the greens are its protection with deceptive burrows and breaks. Came in with 29 points, with my down fall being "Amen Corner" 9, 10 and 11. Off the tee I was cutting the ball and struggled to sort it that left 9 and 10 with long 3h shots in. At the 9th cut the approach and left myself short sided, too smart 3rd into greenside bunker for a blob. 10th setup looking for the cut on my second and went straight into the rough for a lost ball. 2 blobs and a 2 pointer at 11 put an end to me being in contention. Good news is my putting is improving 28 putts on both rounds. "Zen Golf"? One thing from the book I found I used was the visualisation on short breaking putts, which I've always had problems with. Had a couple really quick ones yesterday and holed them both right in the centre. Quiet week this week

    How'd you play?

So played today after yesterday’s range fiasco with the new glasses. Really struggled with driver which is very unusual and frustrating for me. I shot 81 but had 3 birdies, a triple and 2 doubles. I just can’t flush driver yet - I wear progressive lenses and my prescription changed big time especially in my left eye. All my issues were driver related - I’m sure I will adjust fairly quickly - especially since I hit my fairway woods and hybrid great

  23. ... It really is amazing how many gofers simply ignore this part of their game. My summer course has free range balls with every round and several memberships include unlimited range time. There is a decent practice area and I rarely see anyone there, while the range is always filled with those hitting full shots. Like you, I think most would actually enjoy playing multiple short game shots with different clubs than just pounding ball after ball on the range. If you can find a practice friend and make it a competition, even better. The irony is if they need that much work on their full swing they are more than likely missing quite a few greens and need even more work on their short game.

  25. All great reminders Berg!! And yes thanks for confirming the no firearms and smoking parts! I do see everyone has signed up for their fittings times! Awesome...appreciate you guys jumping right on that. As I mentioned to the guys in a PM (that are staying) the Food Lion and Safeway, are probably best bets if you can manage to stop in on your way in Friday afternoon. Route 50 is not something you want to mess with on Saturday at all. For example, today on a Monday at 11:30 AM, I got hung up in a 30 minute back up going back across the bridge due to an accident. It comes out of nowhere on tht stretch of road and bridge. And I'll echo what he said about the money games, we talke anything will be low stakes, but we fully understand some people don't make any part of their golf at all, so feel free to opt in or out. No worries either way, no one is going to get rich off anything..ha

  28. Here's my counterpoint to IONEPUTT: there are literally training aids, the entire premise of which is that by putting an incredibly flexible shaft in a clubhead, they force a player to swing them a certain way or else they cannot be used at all. I mean, I take your point: you could grab a LagShot club and swing it with a ridiculously aggressive transition. You don't have to let the shaft change your swing. But the broader point is that, to get a functional shot, most people will (intuitively or not) react to how the shaft is working.
    3 points
  29. Okay... just no. If this was true then there would be one shaft for all. So so much no here. Weights, kick points and much much more will effect your swing as they are a change. Just like a different head and weight would change your club. You cannot possibly tell me a 40 gram A flex and a 78 gram X flex will not influence your swing one way or another. I don't even know why I'm replying to this because there is so much wrong. Again if what you are saying is true that shafts don't change your swing then why don't we just have one shaft for all... or as you said before you must get a shaft spine flowed and such then again why would that matter because you always make the same swing. I understand you like to base your posts and what you write here on testing you have done and what you find to be facts for yourself. You always have reiterrated time and time again that people should do their own testing and find what works for them individually, but seriously this? I'm glad you have a repeatable swing, however companies wouldn't build X amount of different iron shafts or driver shafts and companies like TXG wouldn't exist if shafts didn't matter and change the way someone swings. This isn't even getting into shaft droop and all the other million ways a shaft influences the way someone swings. A golfer may try to make the same swing, however that does not mean that a shaft does not subconsciously change the way the golfer swings. Whether they meant to or not.

  31. Ended up with this because it was the only hole last week that I played correctly start to finish. Forced layup par 5. You run out of room around 260-270 an if you miss left you run out of room at 220 and will have to punch out to the fairway, still wont have a shot at the green. 3W if I miss is bad, very little room for error and hybrid is honestly a better play but worked out. hit 4i over and just trickled off the fairway. I could go at the green with a 3W again but again is probably even riskier than the tee shot. Ended up 60 out for a nice smooth 60* that released a little bit and had an 11' 2 putt par. Hopefully next round I have a hole thats a little less vanilla.

  32. 1st hole #2 Hobbits Glen Par 5- Normally when I hit a good fade over the trees on the right, I end up going for it and usually end up with a bad result(water, push right into the trees etc) maybe 1 our of 5 ends up on or just short.. Today decided was going to play it smart. Payed off and sunk a 26' foot putt for the birdie. Probably haven't learned my lesson and will go for it next time again 2nd 16h hole Hobbits Glen Par 3. - This was one of the shots where I did exactly wanted I wanted and had the distance perfect. Set up or hit a slight fade choose a 7 since pin was back and I knew if I hit it well I could get it back there, but little risk of going over the green. 13' putt for birdie

Rumors are true, we're going off forum, we will be cash prize based, and we don't know yet where we'll be playing as far as site, Fantrax does have a leg up, but we're looking at alternatives. As far a league size, I think we're going smaller, which might be bummer but may be for the best going forward. More will come soon, likely maybe one thread here for confirmation information, but that'll basically be it on the forum.

    How'd you play?

I have been known to leave people talking on their phone---- On the course I usually take my own cart. That came from my back hurt days where I could ride easy and not jar my back. I have more than one time played on and left others sitting talking on the phone. I also hate carrying on a conversation with someone and the phone rings. "oh I gotta take this" I usually walk off. Have done that on more than one occasion. I also hate people standing in line and the phone rings and from listening it is usually BS and then they hold up the line. I have been known to yell at people "HANG UP AND ORDER OR GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY!!! Lots of businesses here have signs No Cell Phone Usage in Line. People do not pay that any attention they think it does not pertain to them. At the house at supper time even though it is just me and the wife our phones are cut completely off. Seems most of these sales jerks want to call right in the supper hour. And what is funny is all of the messages are "urgent". LOL told one of those guys one day when I bothered to answer nothing this day in time in my life is "urgent" now unless it involves my wife or the one dog. Now this brain dead zombie kept on about they had left (again) 3 "urgent" messages about extended warranty car insurance and he had the gall to say I had not responded. I told him last time I looked I paid the bill on the phone and I decided who I wanted to talk to and to me his messages were not urgent. If it was urgent enough that he needed to sell extended insurance to eat I suggested he go get a real job at Kroger or something.

    How'd you play?

Exactly mine stays in my car if I bother to bring it. I have always marched to the beat of my own drum and been rebellious. I dont do e mails either. I am not good at texting because of my bannana fingers either. I only answer calls and messages from numbers I have programmed in my phone. Had someone ask what seems to be a standard question these days " what if your wife needs you?" Well first off she knows darn well where I am at and if need be my course has a land line and everyone there knows me and someone can come get me. Other than her in my life these days nothing but her or our dog constitutes an emergency in my world. Yep I am one who does not live life with a phone on my hip at all times. IMHO it is a sad state of affairs when pastors ( mine included) have to remind people at the start of services to turn off their cell phones. Yet from where I sit I see them all the time either texting or on the internet during services. And it is just not young people either it can be folks my age or even older. IMHO if they are going to do that why bother to go to church at all. Now I commented on that one time and someone said well some have the Bible on their phone. Yeah ok I will buy that but they aint reading the scripture text the whole sermon. Now I know I am harsh sometimes and I can see someone that is a professional person on call having to carry one in church etc.

  39. You’re right that I forgot to update my signature! I’m mostly a phone user and have signatures turned off so I forget about them. An update on my end is that I just had a banger of a round two weeks in a row sitting mid 70s with great strokes gained putting stats. To your point about data on path, I didn’t measure my last putter with any diagnostic tool. I do use the PIX TP5X ball, and my playing partners are still saying my ball has never started so straight on the PIX line. I had three birdies Saturday which is above-average for me and all three were long putts that fell. Two were on long Par 3s which I feel like I rarely birdie. It may be a confidence thing which can definitely wax and wane, but I am 100% waxing right now. The only cautious area I have is that this may start to feel like I play this level of putting always which will be devastating if this is just a temporary hot steak.

  40. I’m coming back to the game from a very long hiatus. I’ve been hooking my shots hard, so today I practiced the fundamentals - grip, twist, and pull. Used Birdie Balls in the backyard. Super fun way to practice and it makes it hard for me to skip.

  41. Consecutive days of solid practice. Something is seriously going wrong in the world today. Most frustrating part of the day was the launch monitor not picking up the ball. Had quite a few shots that felt and sounded good to look back and the only thing it caught was clubhead speed. I'm tempted to take my clubs down to Santa Clarita tomorrow and find a course after I finish up work for the day. In theory it's a better way to spend the evening compared to hanging out at my hotel like usual.

I shot an 80 today, second best score in more than 55 years. Felt a bit like a Caddyshack moment. Driver worked as well as it has in forever (thank you for firmer fairways), fairway woods were on point, short game was good and the putter was puttin' along. Hit seven greens in regulation which is normally a month's supply. Only missed one bunker shot being on and within shouting distance of the hole. Only one double bogey for the round, no birdies, seven pars. There are days that after a round I might brood a bit. Today was a day to bask. Sorry, had to share with folks who might understand.

Not scoring well at the moment while working on some swing changes. Driver sucks at the moment. Glimpses of really good with irons at times. One thing that is messing with me right now is iron distances. I'm hitting the ball longer, and when making good strikes, i'm either landing on the back of the green or flying over the green. I'm generally a fairly high spin player, so my balls stay on the green if it lands on the green, but it sucks flying them.

Had a reasonable round today. On July 6th we had a terrible thunderstorm hit town. I really devastated the city, especially our golf course. The course was closed down due the cleanup and repair needed, and just opened up last Friday. No, it was not in perfect condition, but must say the grounds crew did an outstanding job getting things back in order. Anyway I will take a 4 over any day of the week!

    How'd you play?

Man, was yesterday an adventure! Owen and I played River Heights yesterday with our buddy Mark. Mark usually plays a huge draw off the tee. This time he broke out his old Cleveland Hi Bore driver from his high school days. Now every tee shot went straight, but he couldn't adjust for most of the round so many of his tee shots went WAY right. He's one of the better golfers I've played with so he was able to bail himself out more often than not, but it was wild to watch. Today I was back to struggling with almost every facet of my game. Most of my tee shots were bordering on snap hooks, as were many iron shots. I was topping a lot of long approaches. I hit two really bad wedges off the toe but otherwise my wedge game was really good for me and I was putting much better than I had been recently. All longer holes were just a comedy of errors. Usually wound up joking to myself, "Ok, hole this wedge to save bogey." I lost two sleeves of balls. On the plus side, I had six up and downs. On twelve holes I was either just off the green or hit a long putt that all left tap-ins. Had a couple of cool-looking second shot saves that were unfortunately not the product of skill but from mis-hits and dumb luck, lol. Spent a few extra seconds to really line up my putts and the results were good. Overall though, its infinitely more frustrating to be decent around the green and terrible beforehand than the other way around. Course was pretty busy and we were waiting a few times early on. A single caught up to us and we offered to let him join us on hole six. Colin was a lefty and played from the tips (we played from the whites) and seemed to fit pretty well with our group. After teeing off on seven, Mark realized he'd lost his phone so he peeled off to search for it. We let Colin play through and Owen and I hung out near the tee box on eight, letting the next couple groups play through. Mark found his phone on hole three (!) and caught back up to us. At the turn we were joined by our friend Randy for the back nine. He generally has chipping yips but other than one hole he was hitting them pretty well. Owen played his usual brand of decent golf save for a blow up on 16. Mark shot 87, Owen 88, Randy 46 on the back nine, and I put up a sizzling 50/55 105 (+33).

    Help with Numbers

As soon as I saw those numbers I thought, "to negative an AoA," sure enough there it was. This is first and foremost a swing issue. How confident are you in that guy? You know how you normally hit the ball, was this session truly representative of that? If your guy got you to where you are at you might consider moving on to someone or something else. Good news is that at 110 you have plenty of clubhead speed going for you. Some time and effort and you have the potential to be very good at golf. Good luck!

  48. Many things you can do. Shallow your swing. Come more from the inside. More spine tilt. Higher tee. Further up. Experiment or get a lesson. Has done wonders for me. Was about 1 down. Now about 3-5 up.

The number that stands out is 5.7 degrees down with your driver. If everything else was optimized, you should be able to get closer to 275.

    Help with Numbers

There’s data points missing like aoa, dynamic loft, land angle your swing path and face to path. What I see is you are generating too much spin and not hitting the ball high enough to take advantage of your swing speed and the distance it will provide. If the vert angle is same as launch you have low launch and high spin. More than likely from low strikes in the face. you appear to have a two way miss but without aoa, dynamic loft, where on the face your contact is it’s hard to say what the swig flaw is that’s causing it. You can play golf with this club and you would probably see the similar results with most clubs. What you need to do is make more center strikes to reduce spin and get some additional height on the ball
