Next year I'm not going to have a home course, but I usually play the tips at any course. There's less than a dozen Northern Ohio courses that touch 7000, so most course ratings should be right around par. bens197
Today was a lot of reflection for me…this year was a lot, emotionally. I had some small goals to accomplish that were derailed early in the summer. So instead, I just went out and played. I played when I could and made the most of it. Which leads me into 2022… Bring my daughter on the course with me to walk around and play as much or as little as she wishes. More rounds with my dad. More scrambles. RollingGreens
I had a fantastic ‘21 I set multiple PB breaking 85 and 80. Holed out 2x this year from the bunked ~20 yards and from the rough at ~ 40 yards. played the most golf of my life. Improved my handicap for a 15 to an 8. Walked 80% of my rounds this year. Played at greywalls in Michigan and palmetto dunes course in Hilton head which were both great experiences. For ‘22 I wanted to try to break 75. If I am lucky I would like my index to be ~5. I’d love to hole out from >70 yards. A big focus is increasing my driver distance this upcoming year, I want to try to get into the 260’s consistently. Me and my wife are also hoping to getting back to playing consistent golf since we had a baby last year and she wasn’t able to play. I look forward to 2022! vandyland
On 12/31/2021 at 12:41 PM, Kenny B said: I played a few times this year from the Forward tees with my wife and a couple of other ladies. Once I played with just irons, and the other times I played driver on every non-par 3 hole. It is certainly a test for sure; lines off the tee are different, hazards are reachable where from my usual tees they aren't. The main difference for me is I get to hit much shorter irons into greens which is fun so GIR is up, but scores are really not that much better because I get into more trouble off the tee. If I played from there more, I believe I could break 70. Yes, The way I play it is to force myself to hit driver on the par 4s and par 5s. As you mentioned, there are holes where it bottlenecks to like 25 yds wide and it, in a way, is a much more difficult driving day. Add in that a lot of times you are pitching for 40-70 yds and that can expose you if you don't have those shots. For a certain type of player, they won't score much better and will get frustrated. The other side of it is that if you are playing well you can reach every par 5 easily and will have a ton of birdie putts. This is a different kind of pressure and especially if you make a few birdies in a row and get to -2 or -3 you have to stay in the moment and remain grounded. I think it definitely translates to when you are playing well from your normal tees. You have some reps being under par and (hopefully) won't be as freaked when it happens. If that makes sense. Hoyoymac
Yes, the slope and rating of our course, Sapelo Hammock Golf Club, make it difficult to get your index down to scratch. When the handicap system changed last year it really messed with the Course handicap at our course. The slope and rating at our course is not as high as it should be in my opinion. The course yardage and lack of bunkers hurts the rating despite there being many forced carries over water and marsh. We are at Sea Level also with very tight Bermuda fairways and the ball does not seem to fly as far as places with some elevation. When I travel to our home in Wisconsin in the summer I am generally a 1/2 to full club longer there. When visiting my Mother in Arizona the yardage gains are even greater. It is a frequent topic of conversation on the porch with drink in hand. With a 4.7 GHIN index, my course handicap is 3 from the Blue Tees, 6225 yards, 70.4/126 rating/slope. From the White tees at 5808 yards my course handicap is a 1. When I play in inter-club competitions as part of the South East Georgia Seniors, I frequently am playing as a plus handicap because they play from the senior tees. GolfSpy_APH
Love this thread and what it brings. I gave the NLU goals podcast a listen and they went over it as well. My goals for this year as it relates to golf are certainly different from previous years. Goal 1: More at home practice. I have a net, mat, space and my puttout so I'm all set just need to be more active in doing so. Goal 2: Find a golf/work/family balance. Baby is due in the next month which adds an extra element. I worked 60 hours a week from May-September last year with 3 days off in that period so I need to find more time for me, family and golf and less time at work this next season. Goal 3: Find my on course game again. It has been a while since I've played to my potential and it is mainly just due to a lack of time so making time to go to the range, get rounds in will be important to me. Thats about it, no handicap goals, no specific game goals as this year is more or less be me finding the time again to play and making it all count. In a nutshell quality over quantity. Gusset
2021: started playing semi-consistently, 2x/month, after 10-12 years away. Bought a net to hit into. After seeing my swing on video for the first time, and semi-slow motion at that (thank you iPhone), identified a couple of things that were likely causing problems for decades and (hopefully) improved them. Broke 90 for the first time, twice. Clubs: using old Tommy Armour 845s. Found a club to use off the tee that I can keep in play much more (Teton hybrid driver, I suppose some will laugh, that's OK). Found a putter I like (Axis1 Umbra), changed to claw grip. Rotator cuff injury. Playing with a brace since October, can't swing at 100%, inconsistent. In PT. Joined MGS. Went on my first golf vacation, to Bandon Dunes. 2022 goals: Rotator cuff recovery, so I can play without a brace. Get GIR up around 30% (currently around 22%) Short game: average <34 putts/round. Get handicap down to 10-15 range. Play a round with one or more of y'all. Re-visit Bandon Dunes at season's end, shoot in the 80s at least once. Mtbryant01 and JerryB 2 Quote Link to comment
ballplayer002003
After giving this some thought, I mean some real thought, I think I would set the goal of shooting a 69 or better. I feel that I am close so now it's time to really put a plan in place. The first thing I plan on doing is working on my putting. This is my Achilles heel. I plan on spending time on my putting mat working on my stroke and aim. This will improve my confidence while on the green. I need to change my mindset as well while putting. Honestly, anything outside of about 6 feet, I tend to think is an automatic two putt. This needs to change. The next thing I plan on working on is my chipping and pitching. I feel like I'm pretty decent here but I want to make sure anything just off the green is within about a 5 foot range. My iron play is pretty good as well as my woods, not saying I can't improve there but I will see the biggest bang for my buck in the short game. So, bring on the 2022 season (once all the snow is gone)! T-Bone
2021 accomplishments included logging in 54 rounds, averaging under 30 putts a round and averaging 52% for sand saves. I wanted to shoot in the 60s but only broke par twice with a 71 and a 70. During the round for the 70 I doubled #12 and then reeled off 4 straight birdies to bounce back. I made three eagles during the season, two on a par 5 and one holing out from the fairway. Unfortunately I wrapped my season up by mid September as my body was kind of giving out on me as I walked all my rounds with a push cart. 2022 goals would be to play more golf, hopefully 70 rounds or more. I'd like to get that putting average down under 29, keep the sand saves above 50% and get my scrambling percentage from 56% up above 60%. I'd like to shoot in the 60s at least 3x. I'm in the process of losing some weight and trying to get in better shape and stronger to gain a bit of yardage. Not sure if I will get a membership with a cart or not. I enjoy walking but the cart might help me. I am usually first out at sun up and it might save me some time playing, although I really enjoy walking. 2021 was a really good year for me and got the handicap to about a 2. I'd love to try to get it under 1 but that is going to take some more work on and around the greens. GolfSpy TCB
Late to the party... I accomplished my goals for 2021... Pick up the clubs again after a 5 year break (done). Single digit handicap (done). Get fitted for clubs for the first time ever (done). One highlight of 2021 was getting a tee time at Memorial Park just after the Houston Open tourney played this fall - that was a blast (and I played pretty well). My goals for 2022 are: Log 100 rounds in GHIN (posted 90 in 2021) Meet or beat my all time low handicap (5.4) Play 5 different courses, in addition to my home Club Walk 2+ rounds per week, rather than ride every time (I tend to be more focused on my game when walking anyway) Lose 25 lbs. Find a coach and commit to regular lessons (have never taken lessons) 2022 Challenges: Shoot even par Birdie every hole at home course Card an Eagle GolfSpy_SHARK, JerryB, Mtbryant01 and 2 others 5 Quote Titleist TSR3 9* (A2 setting) Driver - Graphite Design Tour AD UB-5 R1 Titleist TSR2+ 3 Wood - Graphite Design Tour AD UB-5 R1 Srixon ZX 5W Callaway Paradym 4-PW Titleist Vokey SM9 50-08, 54-10 & 58-08 Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2.5 2023 Titleist ProV1 Link to comment
Weekend_Warrior
In 2021 my goal was to play more competitive golf. And I did play in 6 straight up stroke play tournaments. Wasn’t always pretty, but I think I’ll continue that this year. In 2022 I’d like to break par on a normal par 72 course. I’ve broken 70 on a couple shorter courses that I would say are easy, but the best I’ve ever shot on a real test is 74. To do this I have got to make more birdies in 2022. Micah T
2021 Goals: Break par: Failed - Shot even par 12 times Lower handicap: achieved- 3.6 to 2.1 Higher FIR % w/ Driver: achieved - 35% - 38% (50% last 15 rounds once I switched to a lighter weight in my driver) Fewer avg putts: achieved- 32.7 - 30.7 Higher GIR: achieved- 50% - 57% (9gir-10.7gir) Always interesting to review your stats at season’s end: I didn’t feel like I improved at all but the arccos numbers say otherwise. I did enjoy playing more as I don’t golf solo much anymore. My wife playing more allows us to go out together: and my playing clique has grown too. So golf is more casual, and I spend less time obsessed with my scores. 2022 Goals: Break Par Break 70 win my regular 4 some annual BB tournament watch my wife break 80( she broke 90 twice this year) Improve my FIR % cnosil and JerryB 2 Quote Driver - Cobra LtDxLS 3 Wood - Ping g410 LST 2iron - Titleist U505 Irons - Ping i59 Wedges - Vokey Sm9 Putter - Mizuno Mcraft IV Link to comment
RickK
2021 was a decent year for me. Played 244 rounds Turned 75 in August - shot my age 74 couple of times before August and then 75 couple of times later in year For 2022...starting out rough. Tested positive for Covid this past week and in a 3 week time I have lost 16# down from 161# to 145#...weight I really could not afford to lose. So, 2022 goals, get my strength and weight back and shoot my age several more times. I really wanted to have one more round in the 60s before it becomes impossible but that is looking pretty bleak now. My handicap in GHIN is 11.0 and probably headed upward. Y'all have a great 2022 Micah T, cnosil, JerryB and 1 other 3 1 Quote WITB Driver - Taylormade M6 3wd - Taylormade RBZ Hybrids - Taylormade RBZ Irons - Taylormade RSi1 Putter - Macgregor Smoothie Link to comment
