Popular Post ILMgolfnut
Good afternoon Spies! Did my Fit For Golf workout last night, then things got kinda weird around the Casa. So late to bed, not much sleep, and my reflux cropped up about 4 a.m. Fortunately I have a bed that I can raise the head for just such occasions, and I did. Slept until 10. I had forgotten until last night that I had taken today as a mental health day, so no work and sleeping in was okay. Ordered some more dumbbells for use in FFG and in GF's fitness program, so she's on board with it (and actually she ordered them). Planning a treadmill session this afternoon. Then dentist tomorrow. Yuck. My bathroom scale says I've lost four pounds on FFG. Not sure of the accuracy, but a nice start. Another 15 would be really nice. Got in two pairs of 32 Degrees golf pants which will look nice in Scotland, although I may need a belt to hold them up by then. GF asked me to do the workout in the living room and I did while she watched. She said I look cute working out. The range practice these last three days shows that my swing did not deteriorate as badly as it normally does from a near 6-week layoff. Thank you LagShot. Going to get up around 85 with light winds for the walk around the course. Will be putting the MGI Zip Navigator away toward the end of the month when temps crawl up into the upper 90s. I can't carry enough water between water stops when it gets that hot. But for now, careful lifting will get my trolly and bag in and out of my golf cart on my assigned hole so I can walk. @Dead Solid Bogey Glad you enjoyed a few holes, and I hope they were relatively pain free. Thank you… Pain level has been surprisingly low. I am believing that I may be flinching, bailing out , and /or easing a tad to much into the downswing. I have hit a few shots that would have anyone in any language asking; “ What the hell was that suppose to be “ …. Still, it is good to be back, real good. I had right elbow issues in the late 1990's and "temporarily" switched to graphite in my irons. At that time they were still poo-pooed by most and for good reason. They were lighter with more torque and an active tip pretty much designed to go farther and higher but not straighter. Aldila changed all that with the NV Tour graphite shaft they designed for VJ. 130 gms and 1.5* of torque with a very stiff tip, it was a replacement for Dynamic Gold. Finally a graphite iron shaft that was more accurate than steel and the industry hasn't looked back. ... Just take a look at the LPGA tour where most women have faster swing speeds than they typical male Am with their livelihood depending on accuracy, and the majority play graphite in their irons. Steelfibers are the predominant choice but KBS, Mitsubishi and a few others are also played. Many Am's love Recoil shafts and they are also an excellent option. ... I am a huge Steelfiber fan and if you find the right flex (usually 1/2 to 1 full flex softer than steel depending on how you swing). The feel is extraordinary as the vibration is dampened tremendously compared to steel and it is the vibration that causes or exacerbates joint pain, especially elbow tendonitis. Having suffered severe tendonitis in my right elbow, graphite in my irons caused it to disappear. Testing some Coba MIM irons with 950GH shafts, it took about 1 month and my tendonitis returned. A quick switch to Steelfiber i95's and it was gone. I will never play a steel iron shaft again. ... Balance is excellent with modern graphite shafts and exactly why someone with Nelly Korda's club head speed plays 80gm i80 Steelfiber shafts and several of the guys on the Champions Tour play i95's. Personally I did not find a ton of difference between Steelfiber i110's and i95's in both feel and performance so I went with the lighter weight. At that time they were still poo-pooed by most and for good reason. They were lighter with more torque and an active tip pretty much designed to go farther and higher but not straighter That is generally true, but not entirely so. By the mid-late 1990s, both G. Loomis and Aldila were making graphite composite iron shafts in the 95-115 gram range that had torque ratings of 2.5 degrees and lower. Aerotech also hit the market with their SteelFiber shafts about this time, and initially SteelFiber shafts were only made in weights between 85 - 125 grams. ejgaudette, Cfhandyman, cksurfdude and 12 others 15 Quote DR - Callaway Paradym AI Smoke TD, Newton Motion 4-Dot 4W - Callaway Paradym 3HL, Newton Motion Fairway shaft, 4-Dot HYB - Paradym X 18*, HZRDUS Smoke Red 80S; Sub 70 949X 21*, same shaft 7W (if played) - Sub 70 849, ProForce Black 80-S Irons - Callaway Paradym, HZRDUS Silver Gen 4, S-flex Wedges - Edison 2.0, 53* and 57* (bent to 58*), KBS TGI 100 Putter - (currently in flux, but usually an Evnroll 8V Ball - Maxfli Tour-X CG (2023) Bags - Ghost Golf Maverick Black Ops Cart - MotoCaddy M7 Remote (without the remote) Spoiler driver / off the tee is no longer a weakness for me! Yesterday I had the chance to go through a taylormade fitting and hit dang near everything they have. I walked away not blown away by the 770s or 790s, liked the QI 10 but it wasn’t much of a step up in distance or dispersion over my gamer, and was actually shocked by how nice the Milled Grind 4 wedges felt. I may switch my wedges later this summer to the MG4 if given the opportunity, those things were nice! BUT, the big takeaway was the BRNR Mini Copper. I absolutely LOVE that club and ordered one with a Kai’Li Blue 70g shaft immediately because the results were insane. My left/right dispersion was half that of my driver and I was seeing carry numbers averaging around 275 with a 14° launch angle. To be honest, at those distances it is not only going to replace my 3W in my bag but will probably make my driver obsolete on most courses/holes. If you get the chance, try one out! I love my mini driver. It’s the 1st version, not the newest one, but I’m of the same opinion as yours. Popular Post jbern
Today has been a blur. Don't know if it's because it's a Monday or because work has been crazy. On a golfing note, I'm trying to set up a "league" of sorts with 7 golf friends who want to try to golf every Thursday evening. None of us wanted to join an actual league, but just want to try to set a day every week to be sure we're getting to play a little. I'd like to tour the many different courses in our area and maybe set up some short and long-term competitions. I don't think we're going to get it in this week because after today, it's supposed to be wet. We'll see how it all pans out. Have a good day everyone! @StrokerAce - Still sad that she has any cancer. Cancer Sucks! Glad it's a fairly common one that can be treated though! @Shrek74 - Happy Birthday! Worked for some great companies. Made enough money to have nice homes, nice cars, and set up my retirement for that hopeful early exit around 62. Not to mention played plenty of golf over the past 35 years (and go to the MGS Forum trip in a few weeks). But it’s also been a bit of a lonely existence. Never married, no kids, just my parents, sister, and nephews. Up until now, they’ve always been far away based on where I was working/living. Luckily, I live 4.8 miles from my folks now, and about a 4.5 hr drive from my sister and nephews. So I’m trying to take advantage of being closer to family, but it’s still a lonely life. But that’s just how it is, I guess. I still have hope, but admittedly that hope has begun to fade a little. Ultimately, it’s just another day. I’ll make it through as I usually do, although there will be cookies today. Everyone have a wonderful Monday! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Happy birthday! I'll be joining you in hitting that milestone later this year. I have a feeling it's going to do the same to me as far as being reflective goes. Hitting 30 hit me like a ton of bricks and 40 didn't bother me at all. It's good you've still got family close to you that you can spend time with, those moments are precious. Who knows if that's accurate, but the sweat was definitely pouring off me (it was raining outside our little sunroom, so plenty of humidity). GF fixed me a protein drink with a banana blended in it when I finished, which will serve as my lunch. Think I'm ready for a nap, which is also a good use of a mental health day. I gave up the treadmill during my cardio rehab exercises; my knee just can't take it anymore. Today I used the recumbent cross trainer and hit 3.5 miles, 401 calories, averaging 7-7.5 mph for 28 minutes. Worked up quite a sweat. Today was speed and distance; the next session on Friday will be intervals - 3 minutes at a comfortable pace then fast pace for 1 minute. That's easier. ejgaudette, William P, ILMgolfnut and 8 others 10 1 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Also @Kenny B was older when he met and married his love / best friend Martha. Maybe this happened with some other Golf Spies, too..? Yeah but... it wasn't the first rodeo for either of us!! My back is another issue, after two surgeries and with 25 extra pounds or so hanging over my belt, which does that post-op back no good at all. I'll settle for dropping 15 of those for now. cksurfdude, Northern Monkey, Byrnzee and 6 others 9 Quote Obsessed with chasing the dimpled orb. Dead Solid Bogey
8 hours ago, StrokerAce said: morning all... hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and was able to do something golf related. I didn't have a chance to play but was able to practice for a few hours. preliminary results for my wife look good - a very common form of cancer that is treatable. hoping to get more detail soon and get a surgical appointment asap. thanks again for everyone's kind thoughts and prayers. pretty sure I need to switch to graphite shafts in my irons. my right elbow - even with a brace on - kills me after playing/practicing. kinda bummed about it, but it is what it is. if anyone has any graphite iron shafts they really like I'm all ears. I typically play a 115-120g shaft - was fit into Dynamic Gold 120, Project X LZ, modus 120 previously but I'm not opposed to something lighter. have a great Monday! Continued good thoughts and wishes for both you and your lady for her fast and complete medical recovery……. I went from steel to AeroTech SteelFiber shafts in my irons about 7 yrs.ago…. Still play Aerotech in my hybrids and wedges. Only play 7-PW in irons in the Titleist 350’s. Continuing with using graphite shafts for those irons. Went to senior citizen graphite shafts in those with ( Mitsubishi Tensei AV Red AM2 ) Senior/light/action. The orthopedic specialist I recently went to about my hands and wrists believes that the vast majority of nerve and joint damage is from a lifetime of atrocious life style choices and that golf was at worse at the periphery of causing damage. Unfortunately playing golf did and possibly will accentuate the pain in the hands and wrists. I have had to also attempt to change from a steep attack angle swing to more of a sweeping style.. That isn’t going so well, so far. It is still a work in progress. Rob Person, Northern Monkey, Steve F and 6 others 5
