My ball striking was not quite as good as yesterday across the board but better than the past couple of weeks. It was very windy. However, yesterday I rallied on the last 3 holes (-2) to end up winning. Today, I was winning until the last 3 holes (+4) and ended up losing. That’s golf, a 6 stroke difference on 3 holes under almost identical conditions. 
 

As I said, I’m playing Trinity Forest Tuesday, so this weekend was a little bit of bag prep. I’ve been gaming the G425 3-4-5 hybrids for the past year or so. Friday, I swapped the 5 hybrid for a 5 iron. Saturday I swapped 4h for a Cobra Forged Utility Black 4. I was hitting those so well, I broke out the 2010 MP-FLI-Hi 2 iron. 
 

On number 2 it was dead into the wind, and I knew I couldn’t reach the corner anyway so I teed off with the 2 iron. Center of the fairway and had to lay up anyway. One of the guys made a comment, “That’s a bold strategy.”  I parred the hole and was the only one to do so. On 3 and 5 I hit it for my second shot. Hit it well both times but hit the green on 5 and a 2 putt birdie. Once again on 8, I hit 2 iron, another par and skin. Beautiful tee shot on 13, followed by a pulled second shot. And teed off on 14 which is a par 5. It’s a narrow 520+ yard par 5 with a 25 mph cross wind. Everyone else was punching out of the trees, and I was on the green in 3. 
 

The bottom line is while I didn’t hit the 2 iron perfectly every time, I did hit it 11 times, 7 times it was almost perfect, and the other times I lost a bit of distance, but it was straight. I missed just one fairway or green with it, and that was when I was trying to hit a high cut that went too high and cut too much. 
 

I’m not recommending everyone sell there easy to hit hybrids and buy 13 year Utility 2 iron, but I think I will keep it in the bag this week anyway.

Just days after my first shot at 79 (when I shot an 81, net -9) I had another great opportunity today after a 38 on the front nine and a birdie on 10. I actually was +4 through 14 but didn’t finish too well in the Oklahoma heat. BUT, I completed my task and shot my first ever 79!! I drove the ball well today and really was aided by my new utility iron (Srixon ZX) but the putter is what helped the most! I’m playing in a tournament tomorrow and wish I saved that round for then, but I’m happy to be getting better each week right now!

Season 2 - Week 12 - MGS Forum Member VCT

A little drop off in scores posted.  I blame the hot weather outdoors (especially in the southern states!!).

Low Net Score

Evidently competing against himself this week... the Lowest Net Score of the week goes to:

@J7Hawkins with his Net 60 (-10... same score Rickie shot on Saturday at the Travelers  ) playing at Stillwater Country Club.  Just one shot behind at -9 were @J7Hawkins, @Richie_TB and @Richie_TB (who was also competing against himself this week, but couldn't defeat him  ).  Seriously though... I really appreciate all the scores posted, and as you can see by looking down the leaderboard... posting multiple scores is A-OK .  Congratulations J7H... Great playing (5 separate scores under net par) and this week we have 30 scores under net par.  Competitive Group!!

 

Most Birdies or Better

  

  

As happens... the lowest net score also holds the low net birdies, but since we like to share the badges... and J7H is already wearing this week's MGS Forum Black Jacket... His three leading birdie counts will take a back seat to the next in line... or should I say ... the next two in line.. We have a tie for the Birdie Badge:

@fredsharky and @Stereotype both posted 10 net birdies or better and will each have the Birdie Badge Honor this week.  Nice rounds guys!!

 

Longest Drive

This is where I need to get my excel skills working... there are so many 295+ yard drives every week, it is easy to miss which one is farthest as I work to pick my jaw up off the floor...

And this week a familiar LD Member has topped the list.  @Bohnson with a 367 yard BOMB at CCN (who by the way shot two under gross for his net even par round... yeah... you can do the math on that one!!)  I should add that Mr. Bohnson also has 3 of the top 4 drives this week, but @Javs snuck into the #2 spot with his 343 yard drive. Great drives to everyone on the list below:

Now I will silently walk away with my hat in my hand, and my tail between my legs and work to convince myself that "220 and a cloud of dust" is something to be proud of... haha.

You get 220?  I'm working on 180+ most drives.  And most times I'm still eating your dust!

We all have a ways to go, depending on which leaderboard you are looking at.
