New emojis + new bug in reaction!

So I noticed the two new emojis available - hot, is obvious .. and MGS logo - so question is what is spy logo meaning vis a vis a post?

As I understand it, based on a similar question I asked in a different thread, the fire is self explanatory. The MGS emoji is a placeholder for something Jamie is tinkering with and the ability to like your own posts, is in line with other social apps, so it is intentional rather than accidental.

I guess I don't understand the self-liking and why anyone would choose to do that... here or any other social media.  Seems like self-aggrandizing to me.

Self liking is easier than keeping track of those ghost accounts i started so i could use them to like my posts!   

Dont worry though, my humility only allows a self like and not a self love.

Am I to understand that you don’t regularly high five yourself in public? You don’t know what you’re missing! I mean, sure, other people may just see an awkward solitary clap, but how the ritual makes _you_ feel is all that really matters. I’ve got my fingers crossed the MGS placeholder reaction is going to be a big shiny trophy. The suspense was more than I could bear, hence this post (what social media pros refer to as engagement). Anyway, I’m off to tie my shoes, probably on the first try no less… high five incoming.

As they stated the MGS Logo is a placeholder of sorts.

It's for a project I am working on. Stay tuned. 

As for liking your own posts, entirely up to the person if they want to react to their own. 

Examples where I can see it being used is when posting links to articles where the post isn't so much about you, but the article itself. Others would be when posting photo threads, in going to be throwing up a emoji when I drop my T series photos, you can be assured of that.

Kind of agree .. especially in the context of this forum and considering testing opportunities -- one of the things looked at by the Mods is number of posts and number of positive reactions, and the ratio between them.

So just imaging a random scenario, it seems easy for a member .. eg. a newer member with fewer posts .. to pump up their own prospective ratio by, well, self-liking all their own posts...

I look at this place as sharing stories and golf info (and also some fun non-golf stories and info) vs other social media .. where its whole essence is to self-promote and "influence" in order to get "engagement" and clicks .. in order to earn a share of the advertising and shopping revenue......

Even if that was the case their best ratio would be a 1:1... we have seen 7 reactions to 1 post now with some of the threads.

While we do look at that it's only a very small portion. Example we have several new members who post a lot in the good morning thread. That is a cheat code for boosting a ratio. 

We look more into where members are posting, days logged in and other data. The ratio thing is a bit dated for us now given all the other resources we have.

Just a hunch, but I would imagine the data available to the forum staff would allow them to see if a members reaction count is primarily self-influenced. If it becomes a problem, I have total faith they will address it accordingly. Beyond the novelty of it, I can’t see many instances where I would want to like my own stuff, so

Not my cup of tea, I guess.  Makes me feel like a pillock.  But after only wearing BOA shoes, I think everyone should get a trophy for tying shoes the first time.

I was wondering about the new MGS emoji as well. Look forward to seeing what Jame has in mind for it. I had no idea we could like our own posts; that seems a bit weird to me as well.  Question; is it retroactive for all posts?  Asking for a friend .
