How many irons do I carry?

Irons: 4-PW (Pitching Wedge) - That's 5 irons ranging from my 4 irons down to my Pitching Wedge. These are cavity back irons that provide forgiveness on mishits but allow me to work the ball when needed.

In addition to those 5 irons, I also carry:

• 50 Degree Gap Wedge: My go-to 100-yard club. Allows me to hit full-swing shots around the green with spin and control.
• 56 Degree Sand Wedge: Gets me out of most fairway and greenside bunkers. It's also very handy for lob shots around the greens.
• 60 Degree Lob Wedge: Extremely high lofted wedge primarily for tricky shots where I need maximum height and soft landings on greens. Not a club I use super frequently, but it serves a purpose in the bag.

So that's a total of 8 irons from my 4-iron down to the lob wedge.

Woods:

• Driver
• 5 Wood: My longest fairway wood off the tee on tight driving holes or for long second shots into par 5s.
• Hybrid #3: 19 degrees of loft like a 3-iron replacement but much easier to hit from every lie.

So I carry 10 irons and woods total - what some people call a "traditional" set makeup. This combination works very well for me to handle any shot from any situation! Let me know if you have any other bag configuration?

Which irons in the 4-PW do you not carry?  I only ask because 4-PW is 7 clubs then the 3 wedges, driver, 5 wood,  3 hybrid, plus a putter is 14 clubs and gonna be pretty close to most people. 
 

I carry Driver, 3&5 wood, 2-iron, 4-PW, 46* wedge(bump and runs), 56* wedge(everything else inside 80 yards), putter.

I carry 8 or 9 irons depending on the season.

D, 3W, 2H, 4H, 5H or 5i, 6i - PW, 50, 53, 57 & putter.  I use the 5H in summer when there is less wind because it goes so high all the time.  I switch to the 5i when it gets colder and windier.

• 18 and 24 degree hybrids.

13 clubs total; i seldom use the 58 so I could easily go down to 12 total clubs.

I have 7 irons (set gap to 5 iron) and also 54 58 wedge setup. 

This works for me and I am still sorting the middle section of my bag as it stands. 3 wood and driver are safe. Much of the time I do only have 12 or 13 clubs vs the 14 standard.

I carry 6 irons, 6-GW, and then 52/56/60 wedges, so a grand total of 9 irons. While this makes my bag look wedge heavy, the lofts on my Aerojet irons play strong, so it's almost more like a 5-PW if you compare them to something like a P790. The rest of the bag fills out as Driver, 3/7 wood, 3 hybrid, putter. I am thinking about buying a 5 iron and having that as a swap out club with my hybrid or 7 wood, we will see. Traditionally, I have struggled with longer irons but want to give the Aerojet 5 iron a try.

The set I just finished the season with is 5-PW with 50/54/60 wedges, so that's 9 irons/wedges.

A new set I just picked up is 5-GW, and I'll utilize my 54/60 with them, so that's still 9 irons/wedges.

When I go for fittings in the Spring, I'll have to make a decision on the 5-iron and whether it's bringing me value or if a hybrid/7w/other may be more useful and used than what my 5-iron is today. And that's the really important part of the process - evaluating each and every club to determine if it brings value and adds to the game verses not.

I carry irons 4-9 along with four wedges (P, 50, 54, 58) as well as a 2-iron. 2-iron is the most recent change to the bag and I've loved it off the tee when I need a straight shot.

I took out 3 4 5i due to zero control/distance issues with them.

Occasionally I'll throw my chipping putter in for fun or practice.

Oh,  and the most important club in my bag... the ball retriever!!

My bag has a little variability depending on the course I’m playing (there’s always a putter in the bag, so this is how I get to 13). (3 woods) Driver/3 wood/5 wood 

        (7 irons) 4i-PW

        (3 wedges) 49/53/57

Alternatively I drop the 4i and carry a 4th wedge

I have a 2i and 6i-PW as I got a good deal on a preowned set of Sub70s. My set up is D, 3W, 3H, 2i, a 4/5H depending on the course (good for holding the green on long par 3s), 6i - PW, and wedges are 50, 54, 58. Oh and my putter. 
 

I just learned this week I can order individual irons from Sub70 so I am planning on adding a 5i and dropping my 4/5H all together.

Currently my standard set up is 6 irons.

4-9. I carry 4 wedges (46,50,54,58).

I do rotate a 2-iron in the bag depending on the course and how my swing is feeling so that would bump me to 7 on those days

5-9,PW, AW, 54* sand and 56*, putter a really nice one from Sub 70. Dr, 3W,5w and 4 H. Depending on the time of year and the course I sometimes sub out my 56* for a battleaxe. Heavy woods or if the course is playing real slow.

I love the control I get from my 2 iron off the tee. I can hit it straight, I can fade it and I can draw it depending on what I want.

It's greatest value though is I can hit it low, which given it's often quite windy when I played golf, that was very useful. I don't think anything feels as good as a well struck 2 iron.

How many irons?  Typically it stays 5 thru PW (that’s 6), 50-54-58 in wedges (up to 9), upper end is D - 3w - 3h - 4h (now we’re at 13) and the putter.  Then there are the days when I will drop clubs from the bag to challenge myself or to focus on a particular club or group….for example the other day I wanted to focus on the Edel 7i, so I pulled the 6 & 8 irons along with the PW, the 4h to have the traditional recreational set in play - D -3w - 3h (like an old 5w) - 5-7-9 irons and 3 wedges plus putter for 10 clubs - love the challenges the “holes” in the bag present.  All that to say it’s a never ending shifting of clubs in the bag for me - as few as 8 as many as 14 but always with putter and ball retriever as @Rob Person said!
