Thanks @Josh Parker and @Javs.   On average, I'll break 80 three to four times a year.  This was one of those special days.  For me, stringing five pars in six holes is unusual.  But to do it twice in the same round seemed almost surreal when it was happening.  It was everything I could do to not get ahead of myself.

Congratulations! The magic days make all the sucky days less painful!

Play like a champion today!

I’ve been knocking on the door for the past year but I never thought anyone was going to answer. First round with the Aerojet and much of the credit goes to my driver. 11 drives were hit with driver and 9 were in the fairway with an average distance of 293 yards. The longest was 325 yards. IMG_0731.png.63c4725927440cbf9cf6846178d5a536.png

You could definitely tell the course was just starting to water the course as the ground was still a little firm and some of the par 4 tee boxes were further up than normal. Still, my shot making was on point and the Odyssey Ai-milled putter was steady Eddie all round. Only bogey on the day was from a short sided green side bunker. I was truly waiting for the wheels to fall off on the back nine and I thought this was it. That bogey took me back to -2 and I figured a catastrophe was waiting for me in the next hole, a long par 5. After a 300 yard drive that just ran into the rough, I made the decision to go for the green from 235 yards out. IMG_0733.png.e492aa229cccfc9fd41adb077359d388.png
It’s a 210 carry to clear the creek with two trees, one left and one right, that act like bushy goal posts that you have to thread to reach the green. It’s truly a sucker play so I went ahead and said screw it. LFG! To my horror the shot came off a tad thin and was heading dead straight to the right side of the green. There was no way I wouldn’t clip a limb or two on the right goal post. Luckily, that’s all it did and it finished pin high about 15 feet off the green. After a masterful pitch, I had 18” for a tap in birdie. Back to -3 with three to play. Two with water in play. 3 hybrid off the tee on 16 stopped about 10 yards short of the water.
IMG_0732.png.0daab98029e583171178a67c5f68fbb3.png

After taking a deep breath I hit the 90 yard 56° wedge to 12 feet but lip out the birdie. 17 was a 145 yard par three with water that goes the length of the green on the right side. Any miss right is disaster. So I played this one safe and missed the green a little left and it rolled about 10 feet off. Easy up and down being pin high and I was off to 18 tee needing par for glory. 18 is straight uphill and into the wind. Still managed to hit driver 278 yards and had 115 to the pin. Hit my 52° wedge to the center of the green but wasn’t sure how far from the pin I finished. I walked up and saw this…
IMG_0725.jpeg.69a382505a7f65c45df20edab31b8ac8.jpeg

I had 45 feet with a big jump in the middle. I’ve never prayed so hard for a two putt in all my life. I took my line and when it stopped I had this for par.
IMG_0727.jpeg.383f9e2ae2407557153086ddbfa12792.jpeg

Speed control was top notch all day long. I still can’t believe I did it. My distance off the tee today almost made it feel like I cheated. Heading out again on Friday so we’ll see if this was a flash in the pan or my new normal for 2024.

The TL/DR version… I BROKE 70!!

Congratulations on a fantastic round and welcome to the sub-70’s club!

Our Tuesday money group moved us up tees due to very high winds. Hit low rockets all day and shot a great round. Hit 12 fairways, 14 greens and had 28 putts. We have bad weather due to arrive so, this will probably be my round for the week. We played Blue/Green tees course rating 67.7 and slope of 119. I am a plus 1 from these tees and I shot minus 5. I had a fellow competitor Mike Bryan attest my card. Hope this helps my partner!

Two actually. Hard to see the other 5 on the far left. But still, two birdies on par 5s was a big help.

I feel you on this.  Only broke 100 once, and it seemed so easy.  Like, "I can do this every time, what's so hard about it?".  Haven't gotten close in the last 14 months.  However, I think I'm coming into a new game and will start hitting sub 100 soon.  Can't wait to keep knocking it down.

Course was wet and muddy. Slide Down a hill as the ground gave way.  Course was setup today with only two tees, one at 5400 yards and one at 6400 yards.  Played the longer one and it was a mistake.  Nice getting out without a pull over

I implemented some swing changes today that Jon Sinclair suggested on Sunday. Ball striking was great. Unfortunately, I had a bunch of phone calls and even had to type a letter and email it because it had to be done immediately.

I’m in the middle of the first fairway, and I’m told that this letter I sent this morning was lacking some information including my signature. I add it, including my signature, and send it. Make a poor but decent tee shot on 4 when they call wanting to know why I signed the letter. I was so pissed, I screwed up the chip and made double. The double on 10 was all me.

Then it all starts up again on 13 & 15. 14 was an outstanding bogey when you consider I never once touched the fairway or the green until the ball hit the green and rolled 6’ into the hole.

Usually, I can ignore this stuff but today was time sensitive.

The good news is this will be a match play with a partner score, and I finished each 9 pretty strong.

Longest Drive
SIM Round?

I know those days with the mid-round interruptions constantly.  I'm sorry you had to endure it today @RoverRick.  Looks like you played ok regardless.

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

I just got another one while posting and forgot to add my scorecard. Had to edit it. But tonight is alright. Morning and nights are usually busy and afternoons are generally a phone call at 2 pm that takes about 37 seconds. That happened on 11 as I was putting but played no role in the score. That 20’er with 3’ of break with the wind pushing it downhill was not likely to go in anyway. I had a 1’er for par.

I might be wrong but if your handicap is 16 and shot 92, then 11 under is not correct.
