Kenny B
26 minutes ago, chisag said: ... Shot a 69 today. Yea, OK , whatever. 5 birdies and 2 bogies. Yawn. Left a couple of birdie putts short but really got as much out of this round as I could. Your thinking "what kind of a$$hole, egotistical jerk comes on a golf forum with plenty of golfers that have never broken 80 or even 90 and complains about shooting a 69? Hey, that's exactly how I would feel too... but ... yesterday I shot my age. 67. SIXTY #$*^&$# SEVEN! I started on the back 9 and hit every green with only one putt over 15'. Hit a 5 wood into a fairway bunker I did not think I could reach and with a decent lip I could not risk anymore than a 7 iron, leaving me a 50 footer that I lagged close enough for a tap in. But every other iron was all over the flag and distance control was as good as I can hit it. Honestly it was the best 9 holes of golf I have ever played. 4 birdies and very close to 4 more, then started the front 9 with another birdie and that was when I thought I had a good chance of shooting my age. ... So of course I immediately bogied my first hole LOL. Pushed a drive into tall heather and just had to hack it out into the rough. Hit a good shot that had little spin out of the rough and rolled to the back of the green leaving a 20 footer that I left just short. Managed 3 more good pars and then hit a 6 iron to 1' and was back to 5 under. Followed that with 2 solid pars leaving me about 15' and 12', burning the lip on both. I have given advice to others about playing one shot at a time and not getting ahead of yourself so I was annoyed when my subconscious, consciously told me "just hit a good drive, an iron to the center and 2 putt for a 67." WTF did that come from? I guess when you are on the precipice of a milestone for the very first time, staying in the moment is not all that easy. I cleared my head and just concentrated on my drive and hit one of my best drives of the day. Left me with a knockdown 9 iron into a wind that just picked up for the last 2 holes and hit it to 12' to a pin cut close to the edge of a hump. Didn't get greedy and fed the ball to the high side and let it drift just short for a tap in. After playing ing 20-30 mph winds all spring, it was a gentle breeze of no more than 2/3 mph until the last 2 holes. I think the Golf Gods were pulling for me. Just a great day I will never forget. ... And sorry about the beginning of this post, I of course was very pleased to follow up a low round worth another low round. Even if I won't need that 69 for 2 more years. Great couple of rounds!! Keep it up. Shooting my age is a goal this year for me. Turned 73 last month, and I had a 73 a couple of years ago. I think my game was better before the shutdown than two years ago, but it sure sucks now. I've got to get my short game back. tony@CIC, cksurfdude, chisag and 3 others 6 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
yungkory
Well I followed up that 75 with a horrible front 9 followed by a decent back 44/39 8/14 FiR 3/18 GiR 29 Putts Had an issue blocking shots to the right today, and the first tee shot started it all. Triple on the first because I couldn't find my tee shot in the trees, followed by a double 2 holes later put me further over par after 4 holes than my entire previous round. 3 lost balls didn't help for sure. Got tired and my back started getting stiff, crazy because I only took one week off from the usual walking round. juspoole
I actually got out a lot this week. Shhhh......don't tell the wife. Played 9 on Monday over lunch and again on Wednesday. Then my boss asked me to play yesterday and we ended up playing 18. I mean it was my boss so I was technically working if you think about it. All three days, were very positive from a ball striking perspective. Made a slight grip change and a small change to my takeaway that seem to be working very well. Putting still needs some work. tony@CIC
Men's league last night - 9 hole match play: My nemesis hole at our club is a tough 405 par 4, where a normal drive puts water in play on the left and bunkers on the right, uphill and a tight approach to the green. which is guarded by bunkers. I'm on in 2, not quite, I was in the 1st cut. a 7i bump and run for about 20' gets me to within 3 feet from the pin and a short putt for a par. First par for me on that hole in almost 10 years of playing here (yes the hole got in my head). Oh and the guys we were playing were single digit handicappers - we took home 8.5 points out of 11. Bucky CC
Shot a 76 with a triple bogey yesterday. Was even par through 14 holes (started on the back nine) before my blow up on a par 5. The triple consisted of a fairway bunker, an unplayable lie in the trees, a greenside bunker, and a terrible chip than led to two putts. And no, I don't actually carry a 2 wood. It's just a different driver than I used last year so I tagged it as a 2w in Arccos to save my previous driver's data. artful_golfer, cksurfdude, Kenny B and 3 others 6 Quote Driver: Stealth 2 10.5°, Kai'li Red X Fairway Wood: Rogue ST LS 16.5°, Mitsubishi TENSEI AV White 75 X 3 Hybrid: F9, LA Golf Tour AXS Red 85 X 4 Iron: Ping G410 Crossover 5-PW: JPX 919 Forged, KBS Tour Stiff Wedges: Jet Black 50°08F, 54°12D, 58°08M, True Temper Dynamic Gold Black S200 Putter: StrokeLab White Hot OG #7, Evnroll Tourtac grip
DiscipleofPenick
I took yesterday off to play and had to change venue, as almost everywhere had thunderstorms forecast all afternoon. So instead of traveling to one of my favorite courses I played the muni down the street, and it never rained. Shot an 80, which is ok, but I always feel like I could play better on this course, but the greenskeeper must have an attitude because the course is consistently set up tougher than a 116/70.5 rating slope would indicate. Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
Today was nothing to write home about. 46, LOTS of bogey+. Nothing was blending together, A lot of great shots but nothing strung together. I am attributing some of this to the fact that I am back and forth on 2 new sets of clubs and learning them. Either way it was golf and I HAD FUN! This should really sum up the day: Par 5. Bomb drive (about 280, had 235 to the large trap on the right of the green back corner), bomb 2nd shot, under GIR....3 putt and you can see I did not have a bad length to putt and easily make bird.... Other than that just a fun day Not a great drive, not getting alot of that fade I am used to this year which is ok...just need to remember that. @B.Boston hit first. edingc, MattF, Rickp and 8 others 11 Quote Check out my reviews: G710 Irons Official Review I MC Shaft & V Series Putter Official Review 2022 Forged Tec's Official Review I Nitron Push Cart Official Review WITB: Weapons of grass destruction (link to WITB) Traverse is filled with all this shiny metal and tracked by RadSpeed 8* - MotoreX F1 6X SIM 3W - Project X HZRDUS Green U505 Driving Iron 17* - Project X HZRDUS Black SpeedZone 4H - Project X HZRDUS Black 2022 King Forged Tec's 4-PW - KBS $ Tape 130 48 (SM8), 52 & 60 (SM7) - Nippon Modus 125 S ER2VI PROV1X #19 Are you a veteran? Had a stretch of 3 birdies in 5 holes (should have been 4 birdies). I made birdies, but also struggled with the putter at times, had 3 putts on 4 holes. Some of the holes were on ridges and I had downhill putts. I couldn't stop the ball for the life of me. Didn't learn from the first 3 putt... I have been working on my chips and had one fall this round. It was with my 60 degree about 30 yards out for birdie. downlowkey
9 holes this morning. Woke up sore and stiff, just could not get the hips moving. Had no speed today and my elbows were killing me after the crappy range session last night. Got paired up with a Mom and her two kids; it was a nice walk and a beautiful day. Somehow I found every green in regulation - 8 pars and 1 birdie. Hit a total of 2 shots the way I intended but everything was straight and no real stinkers. Planned to play 18 but the course was packed this morning and super slow so I headed home at the turn. Thoughts for the day: This game is so different from one day to the next. And yes, I am liking the T100-S but honestly I think I could have been using my wifes clubs on that first 9 and shot the same score. Just never been that flawless for 9 holes. Here is how crazy in the zone I was. On a 151 yd par 3 with the pin front left and a bunker on that side and the green sloping away, I aimed 10 feet right of the flag. I missed my line a little and actually nicked the flag. So even my misses were right at the flag. Everything else was 15' or less. Came back to earth on the second 9 hitting 6 GIR's. One thing I did do, was anytime there was even a hint of being between clubs I took more club and trusted it without taking anything off the shot. I was up a little past midnight trying to finish a work project; didn’t get my typical 6 hours of sleep and have been feeling flat all day. Fought my swing a bit on the range last night so my hips were extra tight this morning. And when my elbows hurt (also range related) I might as well forget about speed. I intentionally cut out the caffeine prior to morning rounds but it might have actually helped if I had a cup this morning. To your point on the ability to adjust - it’s undoubtedly beneficial to have some off days that are not reflected on the scorecard in the memory bank. Because tournaments do not wait for you to show up with your A-game. And the nice family I played with remarked that it was the best golf they had witnessed in person, which was a good reminder that it’s all relative. cksurfdude and MaxEntropy 2 Quote PXG___0811 X 9* - Mitsubishi Diamana s60 Limited X Cobra___S9-1 Pro 15* - Matrix Ozik XCON 7 S Adams___XTD Forged 3i - Matrix Ozik Program F15 120 S Adams___CMB 4-PW - Matrix Ozik Program F15 120 S KZG___Tri-Tour 50.08__54.10__58.12 - Accra iCWT 2.0-95i S Nike___Method Converge B1-01 (copper insert) Maxfli___'23 Tour X "The most important shot in golf is the next one“
Popular Post cksurfdude
Got out for a short 9 again (this is seriously the only place to get a tee time around here without driving up to an hour each way) and tho no new scoring records were set, I am feeling good about my progress - finished +8 (Par 35) or as I like to look at it: "1-under bogey golf" - while hitting a lotta solid golf shots .. way more than usual! .. including off the tee, but still managed at least one mistake per hole that yielded me mostly bogeys. Hole #6 has kinda turned into my nemesis here - a dogleg left that leads to a small, well-sloped green raised on three sides and a bunker in front - and was kinda typical of my golfing that day. Hit a really solid tee shot that ended up actually drawing left a bit (huh!?!) .. and getting helped by the wind .. and plopped down right into the big wide fairway bunker on the inside corner of the dogleg. Had a pretty flat, clean lie so took a PW to lay up to a good position but .. totally duffed it. Still in the bunker hit again and this time got the ball out nicely to where I'd intended; left me about 40 yds straight in. Wedge shot on was good and landed really close to my spot and rolled to about 6-7 ft below the hole. Putt was on the intended line and the right speed, buuuut .. I mis-read the break and just missed on the low side... Hit both greens on the short Par 3s (first about 140 uphill; other about 115) so happy with that, even tho on the first one the ball ended up rolling off the back edge of the green. So overall... 2 pars 6 bogeys 1 double (that #6 hole) - no penalties, but 1 x 2-chip (first hole) and 2 x 3-putts Really have to work on distance control for those long first putts - first 3 putt I ran the first one waaay past the hole; second 3 putt left the first one waaay short on a bit of a left-to-right sideslope. zrumble, MaxEntropy, Josh Ross and 9 others 12 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... Josh Ross
Played 9 today with a friend who is just getting started. I fired a 39 with four missed birdies. Had three bogies, should've had a couple of those birds though. It was miserably hot out there today! MattF
1 better than last week for a 92...it's getting better but still a steaming pile. I had a good hole or two and then a complete mental break down, then another good hole. No idea what was going on, it was rough. Still playing around with iMovie, but I like some of the stuff you can do. My round went OK, getting more comfortable chipping for sure, Driver was still all over the place, but I’m probably swinging too hard. I FEEL like it’s getting better though. And no double bogeys was nice! Great job on the video, the editing looked slick and the quality was excellent. Looks like your short game was on fire from that Arccos data, that +4.8 putting stat really sticks out. Course looks beautiful! I’m still playing around with all its features but I like it so far. I’ll be working on getting some more short game shots in there too.The short game definitely bailed be me out yesterday! Popular Post edingc
Early nine holes this morning... perhaps a little too early as I forgot my ShotScope at home. Whoops. - 44 (+8) - 2/7 FIR - 3/9 GIR - 19 Putts (2 3-putts, 6 2-putts, 1 1-putt) - 1:30 Round Time Driver - Average, Irons - Poor, Approach - Good, Putting - Poor Couldn't buy a putt this morning. I missed five putts inside of seven feet, and they weren't even close. Frustrating. Didn't strike my irons well (very thin today), but I was getting around the course well enough to shoot better than 44, the putting just killed me. Oh well, tomorrow is a new round! Got a chance to try out the new driving iron and it feels very nice. Good results on the hole I purchased it for. Took a video on No. 5 today, which was not a pretty bogey. Leaked my drive out behind a tree on the right side, chipped out, chipped up for a legitimate par chance from less than 10 feet and just pushed the putt hard right. It's funny to watch myself on video because by this point I was pretty fed up with my putting, having missed a short putt on No. 2 and having three-putted from 12 feet after hitting the green in regulation on No. 3. Who put that tree in front of your nice drive?! I really like the look of that course. Has a classic country club vibe with all those mature trees lining the fairways.
