I. Finally. Did. It!

I tried my hardest to choke and shoot an 80 but managed to chip in on 18 for birdie. After shooting even on the front I was pretty stoked. Double on 12 and a triple at 15 I basically was throwing it away. Squeezed it out and it feels great.

Well, ummm, not so great cudda been better but cudda been worse...

Past few practice sessions felt a little awkward so didn't bring a lot of confidence to the course, so...

Not a good ball striking day .. which is disappointing as I'd been making some good progress on my swing and my game recently. Was pulling tee shots left or pushing them right .. chunking the irons .. etc etc (you guys know what I'm talking about!).

Yet managed to scratch out more bogeys than "Others" .. two Triples and one Double (so I got that going for me). Had a few chances at par putts but kept grazing the right edge of the hole.

Yeah it was really hot, and yeah it was really unbearably slooooow starting by the third hole .. took close to 3 hours for 9 .. but those are not good excuses for not maintaining focus while executing each shot....

More work to do!

First game in 3 weeks today- no practice and straight on the tee for a trophy matchplay first round. played ok with the long game and chipping ok too.

putting let me down, way short on long putts, missed the 2nd putt to lose 3 holes in a row with 3 x 3 putts- lost 2 and 1 after more 3 putt bogies on 16 and 17.

Spent 1hr after the match on long game and 1.5hrs on putting - I now have yet another putting style which feels more natural🙄 so we'll see how it goes with 3 comps lined up this week (1 medal, 1 open comp and 1 third round of singles matchplay)

OK, so yesterday my wedges gave me issues.  This morning, before the round,  I went to the chipping area and hit beautiful, crisp wedges with not one bad one.  Out on the course...and BAM!  Just like that, I blade not one, not two, but 3 wedge shots...each leaving me screaming over the green and limping off the hole with a double bogey.  Missed 2 makeable birdie putts and somehow squeezed an 84 out of the round.  Sigh.   After blading the wedge on #14, I chip/pitched 5 perfect shots with same said wedge.  Fortunately, I didn't have to chip again the rest of the way in.  I tell ya....I'm a head case!

The wedges definitely new to be in timeout for a while, just enough to scare them. They don’t like dark garages.

We played with another couple that we play with a lot... good friends.  Great weather!  A little cool at 7am... 72º  I normally don't play before 9am.  Lots of water on the grass from irrigating all night, so no roll for the first hour.

This was probably my best round of the year; not my best score of the year, but close.

Score:   76  (+2 on each nine) no doubles; no birdies
Fairways:    92%   missed the par 4 #16 by a foot
GIR:    44%
Putts:    30

Sandy par on the par 3 #12 hole.

Some struggles off the tee today and with my 3 wood.   Irons and pitching/chipping were pretty good and putting got better as the round went on.   5 hour round as we got stuck behind a tournament.   42/39- 81

Scoring seems to be improving,  still need to avoid the big numbers and really bad shots.

Oh, I've been practicing with the proper technique (lessons from pro) and doing quite well with chips and short pitches until Saturday when Dr Jekyll raised his ugly head.  On the plus side, I only talked about the 3 really bad wedge shots.  I did hit some good ones.

They’re sneaky and pretty smart. I keep mine separated in my bag so they can’t talk to each other and try to mess me up.
Funny part is I do keep them in opposite sides of the bag.

I KNEW that was coming!!  lol

BTW, I am loving my PM Grind wedges.  Made a lot of up and downs with them.

One thing that was different today was the ball.  I forgot to mention that I decided to play a Snell MTB-X from the sleeve that @Thin2win gave me at the PNW Spy outing a couple of weeks ago.  It plays quite nice, but it doesn't go in the hole any more often than any other ball I play.   😂

Played with my 13 year old son today in our club’s annual charity day event. Thought it was going to be alternate shot for me and him but they made it best 2 of 4 net for today. I ended up with an even par 71 for the day with 4 birds, two bogies and a miserable double.

On a related note the kid is going to be getting an entire new set of sticks this week. He has completely outgrown his clubs from US Kids and actually played my Titleist TMBs most of the day today. I guess at his size (5’7”) it was only a matter of time.

I guess not. Looking at irons for him now, a new driver shaft and a new 3 wood. I just pulled a set of wedges I had in the golf room for him to start using.

I tell ya....I'm a head case!

... My man, I am sure I am not telling you something you don't already know. But you a concentrating on the results, not the process. If you concentrate on the chip, like when practicing before the round, You will be able to hit nice chips. Maybe not right next to the hole but certainly not bladed. As crazy as it sounds you must not think about the result, just the execution of the shot. The results will follow.

- 44/41 = 85 (+13)

- 9/15 FIR

- 8/18 GIR (No birdies...)

- 37 Putts (2 3-putts, 15 2-putts, 1 1-putt)

- 2:45 Round Time - Walking by myself very leisurely, teed off at 6:53 AM.

Another great ball striking round (feeling so good about my swing at the moment), and awesome driving round for me. So why didn't I score better?

1) Weather. My last two rounds have been the most windy rounds I've played all year. Struggled to account for the effect on both distance and direction this morning.

2) Two specific tee shots. Pulled my tee shot on No. 3 left out-of-bounds (absolutely crushed my second one though!). Hit a massive block on No. 16 the required me to punch backwards to the fairway. Probably four strokes gone between those two shots.

3) Wedge play. Just don't have a great feel for getting my wedges precise distances. I've been practicing a lot lately on this, but it hasn't come around yet. Leads to a lot of long first putts for me. Thirty-seven putts is too many!

Nine holes tomorrow morning. Trending handicap is now below 14 for good, hopefully!

This was my most frustrating average round in recent memory.  My first putts on the front were leaving me with too many 5 ft comebacks (or still to get there's).  For the most part I escaped and was pretty happy with how the front nine went.

On #10 tee, I realized it was pretty hot out there.  And I was walking on a course that must have 3 miles of green to tee paths.  The putter quite clearly gave me two number one's (or was it one eleven?) right out of the gate after the turn.  None of those too long second putts fell.  An 81 shouldn't really feel that bad, but when the driver and irons are working that well, it is a shame to throw it all away putting like that.

On the bright side, the ZGRIPS played really well in the heat.  At no point did I wish for more traction in the sweaty heat.  I still don't think I would have tried them if it weren't for the test for the forum, but I can't argue with how they are doing.

Played a bunch of rounds. Really up and down last 3-4 weeks but have at least established a baseline that's better than mid 90s. I've shot 2 rounds in the upper 80s and 2 in the lower 90s with a few 9s in the upper 40s.

Right now it comes down to driver. When it's somewhat straight I am close to 90. The last round was 93 but I had three or four 3putts because my irons and wedges were off and I couldn't get the green speeds right.
