Drive By Golf Course (No not a Drive-By)

My wife thinks I’m strange.  But while we are driving around, I’m always saying.  Oh wow that would be an awesome place for a golf course.  Even build some hole designs in my head.

 

Anyone else do this?

I seem to remember a thread many years ago about members designing a MGS course somewhere.  Holes were depicted.  Maybe it’s just my old memory playing tricks on me.

That is definitely something that I do as well. If I’m in the passenger seat while we are traveling, I’ll pull the course up on Google maps so that i can analyze it too.

This is a cousin to this golfer rule: when flying in a window seat, your goal is not only to look for golf courses, but to try to figure out the routing.

Yes!  Even just for a full 9 hole par 3, or just pitch n putt place!

Yes, I have done this as well. We were out on Block Island (a small island off RI between Long Island, NY and Martha's Vinyard, MA) several years ago I looked at the northern end of the island and thought it would be a great place for a links course!

I have done it.  Our old neighborhood had some open green space up front, the HOA just bought the main golf course in the neighborhood and I thought the open space would make a perfect par 3 course.  The HOA did not agree with me…

Also have driven past many and thought I would love to play that course!

I couldn’t help myself while we were in Yellowstone NP the last time… so many great golf opportunities wasted on preserving nature… (kidding of course) I love Yellowstone.

I'll do it every now and then while traveling through farm land or some wooded state owned property

Absolutely! I do it quite often.

I do it with the idea to build just a small chip and putt course. We used to have one near me that went bust a while back and it was great! The longest hole was like 87yds and was perfect. Could bang out 18 in like hour and a half. Had food trucks and was lit up. I feel that if it was still around it would be incredible with the resurgence of golf.
