Congrats testers!  I'm fascinated at the twin face resin sandwich.  I've actually wondered why someone hasn't done this in the past.  Interested to hear your thoughts on sound, feel, and performance.

I’m hoping I haven’t set my expectations too high haha! When I bought my Sub70 utility iron last year, my expectations were pretty low. I saw it as a low risk way to try a new brand. But since the day my club came in the mail I’ve been nothing but impressed! though I’m not sold on the dual face idea, I expect them to change my mind so my expectations are high.

Hey everyone! I'm super excited to be posting this introduction for what will be my 2nd test on the MGS forum (Clicgear 4.0 Review) and my first time reviewing a club!

A little about me: I'm now in my late 20s and have been playing golf for nearly 4 years. I grew up playing baseball and traveled the Southern US playing the sport I love so I never really had the time to play golf growing up, and the closest course to the small town where I grew up was about an hour away. Fast forward to 2020 and the COVID shutdown: I was in grad school full time and was working on classwork online and looking for something to do outside, I tried adult softball and baseball leagues and had some fun with that but found that waiting a week between games was too long and boring so I kept looking. Somehow I found myself diving into YouTube golf (that was just coming alive at the time) and started really enjoying watching channels like Good Good and Rick Shiels, since there were no live sports at the time. So, during that time I fell in love with golf. I graduated from grad school and when I started working I got a set of clubs and started to play a little bit, then a year later a joined the Stillwater Country Club in the Spring of 2022. Since then I have played over 120 rounds each year, this year my goal is 150+ (and I'm on track) and I have gone from a 20+ handicap down as low as 7.4 (currently 11... whoops)! I am no pro, but I do try to compete in at least 1 tournament a month (usually 2) and spend about 10-12 hours a week practicing different areas of my golf game.

My wife and I have 1 child together, he was born earlier this year. The three of us live on the golf course (literally, our backyard is a par 5 fairway) and between playing golf, pickleball and the pool we spend nearly all our time at the Country Club. Outside of golf, I love football, baseball, the OKC Thunder, and drinking good bourbon and beer!

IMG_1750.JPG.2ec738986639b55b590476482a155c6f.JPG

What I ordered: For this test I will be testing the Sub70 Pro V2 Fairway 7 Wood with a Stiff Project X HZRDUS Smoke RDX Blue 70g shaft. Currently, I play a Sub70 699 V2 Utility 4 iron (20° Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black 90g) and though I really like the club, I think a 7 wood might be a better fit for that spot in my bag with more ability to spin and a more drastic landing angle, giving me a much better chance to hit and hold a green when hitting into a par 5.

What I will be looking for: As I mentioned before, I will be looking for this club to upgrade from my utility iron (20*, 220 carry) with similar carry distance but more spin and forgiveness distance wise. This club will be tested both off the deck and off the tee, as I regularly hit my Utility Iron on short par 4s or holes with drastic dog legs where I can't cut the corner off the tee with a wood. Lastly, I will look at how forgiving this club is and whether or not I am able to work it both left and right while maintaining confidence in the distance and control. My expectations are high, but I really think Sub70 could hit the mark here.

My introduction for this test is up, go give it a read!

and guess what… UPS says my club will be delivered tomorrow! Quick turnaround from Sub 70!IMG_1782.jpeg.c2a986ab5eb649c8bbae877fe933d5f8.jpeg

Hey forum! Let me start off by saying how incredibly excited I am to be a part of this test.

About Me

I am 35 years old and live in South Central Wisconsin (close to Wisconsin Dells for those of you who like waterparks). I have taught high school math for the past 12 years and recently finished my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. I grew up playing baseball and spent most of my summers traveling around the state, playing in various tournaments. I didn’t find the game of golf until after college. During my first year teaching, I was invited by a group of teachers to join a social golf league at our local country club, and even though I had never played a round of golf in my life, I decided to give it a try. I quickly fell in love, and after that first year, became a member at the country club and played on a semi-regular basis. Fast forward a few years, my wife and I decided we wanted to start having children (the boys are now 6 & 2) and my golf dropped to basically zero. This summer, I was asked by a friend to join a 2-person scramble league and decided it was a good time to dust off my clubs. I play weekly in that league, and I try to make it out 1 or 2 other days throughout the week to hit some balls on the range to try to find my groove.
IMG_3776.jpeg.141b820851c1bd673f142fdb732bfc8f.jpeg

What I Ordered

For this test, I will be testing the Sub70 Pro V2 Fairway 21˚ 7 Wood with a Stiff Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 60g shaft. I had this exact club in my online shopping cart about 2 weeks before the test was announced until my wife found out and quickly shut that purchase down.

What I’m Looking For

I have never felt confident with my longer irons in hand and, therefore have run into trouble in the past from 200-215 out. I have found some success in the last couple of weeks with my TaylorMade RBZ Stage 2 4H, so that will be the most direct competition. I will be testing my 7 wood in similar situations to those that I would normally use my 4H, including off the tee and off the deck. My hybrid does have a tendency to run out a bit which has led to rolling off some greens and playing out of the rough. I’m hoping something with a higher launch and steeper approach angle will have a little more stopping power to hold those greens and lead to some birdie putts. Also, being a high handicapper, I struggle with consistently hitting the center of the club face, so I will be checking how forgiving the club is, hopefully leading to keeping more shots on line and playable.

Hey forum! Just updated my introduction, so go give it a look. I got an update that my club will arrive tomorrow! I’m excited to get testing!

7 Wood is looking very popular for this test! I'm excited to see how you all get along with it! I currently have a 4hy that I really like, but a 7W could be a better fit for how I play and the courses I play here in Mi. I'm interested in what club it compares with in each of your bags and also the flight and spin you see with it. Does it fly high and fall soft or something else?

As far as @Dcfrench3 and his 3W, I'm interested in the forgiveness or playability of the 3W. I love my current Titleist TSR2 3W, but my brother is definitely in the market for something that he can use off tee and the FW that isn't a driver!

I get to get out and hit a few balls at the range yesterday with the ProV2 Fairway wood and overall I was happy with it. I will definitely be getting some actual numbers via a launch monitor but I’ll post what I saw yesterday below.

  • The club looks great, I mean wow it looks good. Confidence building with a fave that looks easy to hit.
  • my distance was close to what I was hoping for it, about 225. Not only that but the angle of descent was steep steep so the ball wasn’t bouncing forward even on the range. Will need to get on a sim or launch monitor to check what spin was doing.
  • It may have a slight fade bias, will confirm with more testing. I was able to get it to draw but it felt like easier to hit a fade with it.
  • Forgiveness felt really good up and down the face and even left and right. I didn’t see much change at all in distance even when hitting very low on the face. The exception being the couple of balls that I hit low toe that rocketed out there another 10-15 yards, but that’ll happen with nearly any club.

Can confirm they are GREAT looking woods. Got to see @JJBack's 7 wood last night in league. The matte black crown with a fade to carbon fiber weave is really nice looking. Reminds me a lot of the crown on my Cobra King Tec hybrid and Darkspeed X driver. Got some nice shots of it after league last night, he's got them though so everyone else will just have to wait for an update 😁

Hey everyone. It’s been a super hectic day, but I wanted to at least get some unboxing and course pictures uploaded for everyone to check out. I’ll be back with more later tonight or tomorrow once I get a chance.

I definitely love the look of that club at address. Like the other Jason, @GolfSpy_KFT 🤣 I love the look of my King Tec hybrid and this reminds me so much of that.

I was tempted to snap a photo of the King Tec next to it, it’s a nearly identical design.

The Pro V2 really appeals to my eye. If only @JJBack was a lefty! 🤪😜

I think the look is second to none! Even the head over design is great!

The headcover is fantastic. Something to be said about a clean, simple style.

I've been hitting the  refresh button on my email for what seems like years waiting for the shipping notice.  No luck yet, but I'm very excited to receive it.  They look amazing!! I was playing 9 the other day and found myself saying, on more than a handful of times, this is where that 7 wood should be perfect.

I guess posting about it made it happen. My wife sent me a text asking if I bought new golf stuff.. It's arrived!! Unfortunately it's storming today. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a chance to take it out. Pics to follow soon
