Brand New PXG irons released today. How do you guys feel about the brand as a whole?

Recommended Posts

Brand new Gen 7 irons, new black ops game-improvement irons and new sugar daddy III wedges were released today. I've only had minimal experience with PXG clubs , but I wanted to see what you guys thought about the brand and the quality of the equipment?

Back when PXG did their promotion for the new Gen 5 driver, I went in and did there challenge to see if my gamer was better than their driver. Of course, their club out performed mine, but I couldn't afford the brand new driver at the time. I was so impressed that I ran to 2nd swing and got myself the closest thing to what they fitted me for and that's what I have in the bag today. I've always thought about switching to some PXG equipment, but have always heard some mixed reviews. I'm curious to hear the communities opinion and experiences on PXG equipment and if you guys have any recommendations? If you have any stories about switching too or switching from PXG to various brands, I would LOVE to hear about it and the comparisons that you have with that!

My local club invited members out recently for a PXG fitting. I was very impressed with the entire experience. 1 full hour dedicated to just me and all of their clubs. I focused on just a couple of clubs but they had the full setup outdoors, tent, trackman, every piece of equipment they had. It was my first time hitting their clubs and I was impressed. The price point is great too. Overall left with a higher impression of PXG and would recommend to most golfers.

If I were to get into playing newer stuff I would consider them. I know sometimes on certain issues with some about the owner it can cause a stir. Me I am as brand agnostic as it gets so I have no problems. From what I have seen they do have a good product

I did a PXG fitting last fall and appreciated the experience. Ended up buying a Gen 5 driver that I’ve been super pleased with this year. The irons have just been so weird looking to me. Couple with the cost and they haven’t really been on the radar. These Gen 7 are really clean though! I’d still probably look at several other brands first at the price point.

I am currently playing with PXG 0211 DC 7-pw and I am very satisfied with them. That said I would certainly consider the Black Ops irons as my next set if they look like a step up in performance..

My first impression seeing these. Just to offer a little humor. Candidly? We are the Borg. You will be assimilated.

To be candid.... I would rather walk a field with a good Bird Dog, than to walk a golf course with people. Only problem is, I can't walk.

I'll be honest... never hit a PXG club in my life. That being said, I actually think from what i've read about their equipment and heard from speaking to other players, theres no reason I wouldn't pick some up one day.

I actually like the brand. I don't know why, I just think PXG have a spot in the marketplace that no other brand holds, and I like that.

Their irons and wedges look... UNREAL. 🔥

I think their woods also look good, although I have never been a fan of the crown designs on their longer clubs, but I suppose thats personal preference.

From what I know about PXG, their only real weak spots seem to be their putters (subjective, but just what i've heard from others), their unnecessarily complex model names, and their abrasive marketing strategy. Having said that, it obviously works, so can you really argue it?

The 0311 Gen 7's look fantastic, would love to test some if the opportunity presented itself.

Keep reading about the price of PXG clubs and understand that some are on the higher end. Just looked at their website and a fourteen club set can be bought for $1,399 which seems like a decent price if they will work for you.

I have been fitted twice for PXG clubs--first was a gen 2 set of 0311XP irons and 4 years ago for the 0211 irons which I still game. At one point, I had a full set minus wedges and putter that were PXGs including Gen 1 and 2 0811 driver. Their fitting experience both times was outstanding. Was able to hit out of an air conditioned garage bay with trackman set up which was nice. While I have moved on from the woods (wasn't a big fan over time, but I am sure the newer models are fine), I still have a gen 2 4 hybrid in the bag as well and love it. I am wanting to try some Mizuno 245s once I get the $$ and move on from the PXG irons, but I can say I have been happy with the 0211s. As my game has improved, I am looking for a more player's style with less offset. I think their club designs look great, and their aggressive marketing plan works--I just feel like trying something else.

Seems like the overall consensus of anyone that has swung a pxg club is that they are worth the money and in contention with any of the other larger brands.

I've been fitted twice at PXG. Fantastic experience both times. 25 bucks and it goes towards whatever you purchase. I got fitted into gen 7 when they came out as I wanted to see how they compared to my current PXG 0211 set. They were good. But I wasn't blown away enough to drop 1350 which is even with the hero pricing they offer. I like the gen 6 too but I can find those used cheaper than new as so I didn't get anything this time around.

The 7 looks great and feels great. Just too much money for not enough wow for me.

About 5 to 6 yards on the 7 iron is what I got when compared to my 0211 xcor2s when hitting them side by side. Spec wise they are identical.

I should be golfing instead of talking smack on the web.

It’s easy to have strong opinions. It’s important to remember that we don’t have to hold an opinion about anything.

One of my scramble partners was fit two years ago at CC and of all the irons he tried, PXG won.

Hands down the best were his words.

I'm a big PXG fan. Most of my bag is PXG. All but the wedges actually. I own a lot of PXG apparel as well. All of it is very high quality.

I get some folks didn't like how they came into the industry with the bold marketing and the obscene price points, but from an R&D perspective they are pushing the envelope in a lot of ways and the clubs are solid performers. And the prices aren't even all that obscene anymore. Most of their brand new lines are competitively priced to other big name brands now, and they have cheaper lines available with a bit less "tech" as it were so there's something for everyone. I bought all previous generations clubs and waited for sales and saved a bundle on my new bag so price isn't even too big of a complaint for PXG anymore. Also they have their heroes pricing still.

So yeah, I'm a big fan. The clubs are great, the on-course accessories are great, and the apparel is great. Some of it is still very expensive but I have zero complaints with any of my PXG gear or the experiences with them as a brand.

My only complaint came when they brought out the M16 Composite Putter Shaft shortly after I bought a Battle Ready putter and they basically didn't have any means for people to easily upgrade to the new shaft without buying a totally new putter, but they literally fixed that within a week of me emailing (I imagine others complained as well) and were able to let me purchase a shaft to have installed on my putter.

As it happens, I had a PXG iron fitting this morning.  It was a great experience.  I learned some things that should help me when buying clubs down the road.  I have a lower swing speed and would have thought senior flex irons in the game improvement category would work best.  Yet, the one I hit best was the 0317T with a medium weight, mid launch graphite in a very heavy swing weight.  Despite the 2 degree weaker loft in the 0317, I was hitting it higher and as long as the stronger lofted irons and with a lot more consistency.  If you are in the market for new irons, getting fit is a no brainer.  Just go in with an open mind and be willing to try anything.

I have know about PXG from their first introduction and I have always heard great things about their irons but not so much about the driver/fairway clubs.  I don't think you can go wrong with PXG provided you do a fitting.  But I would say that about other name brand clubs as well.

I keep scouring the Internet for a used 0211 7 wood to complement my 5 wood but they're hard to come by. Actually, I find that any used 7 wood in a non-senior flex is hard to come by.

I came here to say the same thing. @Mpwsports34 it’s funny that you ask about the perception of the brand because this is a part of the test, I have heard in the past that some people really have a problem with PXG for some reason and I don’t really understand why that is. For me just the fact that they make quality golf equipment and all the love they show our military and first responders makes me appreciate what they are doing so hats off PXG!

I have a cobra rad speed driver, cobra fly z 3 and 5 wood, taylormade m1 irons (5-PW), Top Flite Gamer wedges (52,56,60), and odyssey white ice putter. When I’m playing to keep score I typically play the Maxfli Tour X. When just getting a round in with friends or scrambling I play whatever I might find on the course or might find at the bottom of my bag.

PXG is an edgy brand, but I have no real view if the clubs are great to play or not.  I can say they look cool.  But does appearance translate to performance?  It’s interesting but not many equipment free agents are playing PXG.

I'm starting to come around on PXG. I can't stand Parsons and it pre-dates PXG by years. Most of their clubs in the early iterations were butt ugly and I had no desire to try them. The company itself still can't decide what it wants to be - ultra niche for rich people, a brand "for the people" with their military/first responders packages, or what? I think most people tend to forget (or overlook) that the whole discounts for first responders/military was in response to the massive backlash Parsons got for naming the clubs after his beloved Marine Corps but there were barely any enlisted members who could actually afford them at the time with how expensive they were.

Anyways, the stuff they've been coming out with lately is much better looking IMO, and everyone I know who's added PXG to the bag has said they're hands down some of the best clubs they've played. I do appreciate them sticking with their discounts for vets and the amount of customer service they provide. Would they be my first choice? Probably not. But I'd at least give them a shot, something I wouldn't have done a few years ago.

I think they look great! I recently had a fitting w/ them at my home course and they did an excellent job. I'm 41 so sorta stuck in my ways and with my golf brands but I would recommend them if you're looking for a change or a new-ish golfer looking to drop some $ on a full / new set. Not certain of how they stack up technically with other brands. They certainly look cool and the price is right!

I have the 0211 5-GW and I really like them. The fitting experience was great, and my fitter was very personable and answered any questions I had. Their prices have significantly dropped since they started out. I would definitely keep them as an option going forward.

Hadn't considered them much previously, but some of the new stuff has me interested.  The Black Ops hybrid in particular.  A new PXG store opened close to home so I might check out a fitting.
