Today did some putting practice and Setup4Impact Drill 1 (a really short swing through the impact area driven by body turn). Regarding the latter, I did 10-reps each RH, LH and both hands using an Orange Whip wedge and with a ball. Also did Drill 1 using a driver, both hands only. A picture of my impact sticker is below:

Clearly impact is high on the face, but pretty well centered. This result leads me to believe that I've been teeing the ball too high.

Yup, fair point. I've been working on hitting up on the driver for several years and based on Trackman data, been mostly successful. However, when I started with the S4I swing earlier this year, Trackman data was mixed so it might be due to hitting down somewhat. These are REALLY short swings...more like a chipping motion, so I can be hard for me to tell.

Well, Mother Nature put the kibosh on any outdoor practice today:

Time to roll some putts indoors. Need to get some time under the belt with the DF3, and no better time than the present to start getting more accustomed to utilizing him! Set up markers at 3ft, 5ft and 7ft. I also like to set up a 10ft marker when I'm outside, but my indoor green simply isn't long enough!

20240510_123615.jpg.25468828703067a6dc14ac443f2f12c6.jpg

Had the opportunity to have an extended lunch, so was able to roll 60 putts and have to say, I'm starting to get used to the "feel" of the DF3! I am starting to understand why they say it's thumbless: the grip pressure feels much lighter on the club vs the Spider, not as much is required to keep the face squared.

I am STILL releasing after impact to the left, but am for sure getting square at impact: thanks to some of our members for pointing that out! Overall, happy with and productive lunch practice! Now, if Momma Nature will be kind tonight and early tomorrow morning, I've got a 0610 tee time that I'd LOVE to make and get some course time in with the L.A.B.!
The numbers for the lunch session:

While practicing putting the other night m, had some swing thoughts.  While the kids were outside playing, swung a club for quite a while.  Still fighting getting really long on my backswing, but also feel like I’m almost overthinking things…was getting more into a feel mode with the swing this evening without hitting a ball.

Putting practice tonight on the little green outside my Raleigh hotel, which is about 40 feet long, 10-15 feet wide, kidney shaped, fast as hell, goes downhill away from the front door and breaks hard toward the parking lot. Used the Mindset balls to see if they helped me get the ball started on the desired line, which I knew somewhat from previous sessions on this green. Answer was largely yes; made some 20 footers and lipped out several others, including one that was dead center but hit the back lip and bounced out.

Obsessed with chasing the dimpled orb.

I hit the putting green in the spare room for about 20 minutes tonight. Just trying to keep my focus and tempo in tact. Used the mirror to maintain strike alignment and path. About 50 balls total.

Mistakes were made. Went to get in some practice and didn't realize that my son had taken the tape out of my bag. About 3/4 of the way through the bucket, ripped open a nice blister on the side of my index finger. That put a pretty quick end to my practice. For how little I've been practicing recently, it was a good session, but looks like I'm out for practicing full swings for a few days. I guess I'll have to work on my putting instead.

After testing the Edel Array for the forum, I decided I really need to work on my putting speed. Picked up a PuttOut Pressure Putt Trainer and spent about 20 minutes working on it. First, I played around with various distances and then decided to challenge myself to make 30 consecutive three-footers. Made it 23, 21, and then 24 and decided to call it quits.

We moved last fall, but I wasnt able to move my practice net.  Spent the day preparing an area at our new location for a new net setup.  Two 4x4x10 posts and two  bags of Sakrete under $50.  Bought 10’x10’ net on Amazon. $60. https://a.co/d/93LOXj8

Already  had aircraft cable and carabiners from old net.  Waiting for concrete to set.  Hope to be fully functional by weeks end.  Here’s a pic of the old one.  Will try to post the new when finished.

Day 117 (13 Jun 24) - Test my patience drill today (really just goofing around with the 2-3-4 irons of my DCI 962 irons).  Goal today, just get the ball higher than 10' off the ground.  Same drill as before - work on setup, tempo and then getting solid impact using hard foam balls in the backyard.  It was a fun challenge as those irons do not forgive bad form - but also helps me work harder to be more precise in contact.

targeted chips inside 10 yards...

putting drills from 3, 5, 10, and 20 feet...

both went well, just have to take the putting more seriously from longer distances...

I have different thoughts on what is “perfect” putt from what PuttOut says.  I like to see the ball die in the hole, but it is still a good tool for practicing putting.

I snuck out at lunch to hit a bucket, still mats only :/. Worked on keeping my upper body back when starting the downswing, I hit some really good shots across the bag. I ended with a drive that I just crushed (for me, anyways) dead straight, and left the rest of the bucket for someone else. I wasn't going to do better than that one so I opted to end on a high note.

Walked 18 holes this morning with a couple of golf buddies. It was overcast & windy but it never rained.

My Ball striking was not bad today.  I had a couple of hiccups during the round, one resulted in a double bogey on a par 3, pulling a tee shot on a 178yd Par 3, into the wind. Pulled the dang thing right into the water, green side.  I got greedy and tried to hit a hard flighted down punch 5 iron, got quick, and didn't trust it.  Should have just hit a regular 5-iron & not gotten creative.

I'm working hard on my takeaway, one piece & not quick. Club Pro & I had a good discussion last week on the golf swing and he said something simple that clicked:
Pro: As a right-handed golfer do you wear a glove on your right hand and left hand?
I said, on the right hand only.  Left hand, only when it rains.
Pro: then why are you trying to swing with your right hand?
Boom, a light bulb went on!

What clicked for me, is in the takeaway. My tendency has been for my right hand to take over the swing.  What really has exposed this flaw, is doing TheStack Speed Training.  Keeping my right hand quiet on the club,  it feels like my swing is shorter, more compact & effective. It allows my right arm to extend at impact. I'm not fighting the swing. I've noticed an improvement in ball striking.  Driver Tee shots are longer, Rescue clubs - 18 & 21 degrees, were crisper.  This past Sunday, I hit the 18-degree Rescue off the tee, on 344yd hole, and had 78 yds remaining.  I hit the prettiest high baby draw, right down the middle, the furthest I ever hit that club, without a doubt.

Today, similar results with ball striking.  The 2 screwups I had, both swings felt like I over swung & got too long with the swing, forgetting the fundamentals I'm working on.  Old Habits not gone & creep in. Thats ok!

The Titleist T200 irons, with Nippon Modus3 shafts, are nice except for the pitching wedge.  The pitching wedge was not built to my specs, it appears the PW was built at 2 degrees flat, not 2 degrees upright, like the other irons. It's a problem.  The toe of PW digs in first causing fat shots. So, I got the bright idea last night of taking the 9i from my old Precept Tour Forged irons and substituting until Titleist corrects. What a relief to my mind. The 2004 Precept 9i Loft is the same as the 2023 T200 PW.  Not one fat shot today, with the Precept.

In the last two weeks, I've used the T200 PW on 11 shots (yes, I'm tracking the shots) resulting in 9 fat & 2 ok.  The 2 ok, I had to open the face at address, which keeps the toe up, and use more of the bounce, so the toe will not dig in first.  The Titleist Rep is coming to our Club next week and wants to see & test the PW himself. The Gap is fine & the 9i is fine.

The irons were blended fit with the 5 iron being a T350, same Nippon Modus3 105 gram, stiff shaft. That is one sweet club!
Shot 2 over par today. 37/35 and quite pleased, except for the 32 putts.  apologies for being longwinded.

Full Swing practice - NKGC range, hit a small bucket worth of 9 to 3 swings (S4I drill-2) with 8i, 6H and Driver, focusing on making ground contact at (or slightly after) the ball and making sure that the swing is lower body driven. I used an impact sticker with the driver and today had inconsistent face contact. Need to continue to work on these drills.

Putting practice - On the practice green did the 1-putt circle (5-tees around a hole at 4') test, getting 6/10. Not a good result and emblematic of my current putting problems. Followed with the 2-putt circle drill out to 40' from the hole (goal is lagging the ball into the 1-putt circle) which went better as I got 8/10. Finished with Broadie's 5-foot putting game (10 holes from 4'-6'; make = 2pts, 2-putt, 1st long = 0 pts; 2-putts 1st short = -1 pt.; 3-putt = -3 points) scoring a poor 7. A 3-putt on a downhill 6 footer killed me as the ball went at least 6-feet past the hole and I missed the comeback. Tough game, but simulates the pressure of playing.

Today was short iron (9), mid iron (6) and driver work. Focus was squaring the club face and using more ground forces. 9 iron felt good, driver was great but 6-iron was a hot mess. Couldnt achieve either goal. Multiple different drills and feels to find something but nothing was there.

I don't practice much after April.

If I feel well enough to practice, I go to the club and find a game instead... over breakfast with the guys.

Presumably, however, you want to play better than I do,
so don't take this as a recommendation!
