Rebuilding driver-epoxy question

I'm re-shafting my back up club seems easy enough. Cleaned the head from the previous shaft. Prepped the shaft, mixed the epoxy from golf works and 3 hours later.. The epoxy is still tacky. I know it says 24 hour cure time, but is it THAT different from regular home epoxy? regular epoxy instantly starts curing, heating up, etc. I'm getting basically nothing.. Did I do something wrong, (50/50 ratio, mixed, etc) or is my patience the problem?

If ya went 50/50 like directions said & didn't mix part A with part A or B with B, it just might be slow curing expoxy. General rule is fast = brittle, slow = good retaining strength.

Yeah, be patient. It does take a while. When I build clubs, I mix the epoxy on a paper plate with a pencil. Once finished, I let the pencil sit in the epoxy and let it sit on my workbench. I can see just how far along the epoxy is getting.

By the next morning the pencil won’t come off the plate, so the club head definitely wont come off either.

The stuff I use says 18 hours. Like Bulldog said, slower curing is better than 30 minute cure that will be brittle and snap.

24 hour epoxy is just that. You have to wait, it will start setting up at 10-12 hours, but won’t cure until 24 hours. I mix it up with a popsicle stock and just lay the stick it in the unused epoxy and the next morning I will check it. I usually put the club together in the evening and just leave it until the next day.

I agree with above. When I restart I always leave a little out on cardboard to see how it’s curing. The 1:1 ratio 24 hour cure takes about 10 hours to get hard and another 10-12 to fully cure. Take your time and it will come out right.

That’s the best thing, I always try to build when I know that I’m not playing for a couple of days. So I know the epoxy is cured

I actually got swing it a couple of times today. I wouldn't say I possess the lightest seeing you've ever seen. The head stayed sure and tight, and this thing absolutely pounds with the new shaft in it. Can't wait to see how it sends them in summer with some humidity. Right now I'm a full club less on every thing because of that dense cold air.

Go for it! Those classes are very affordable if you are close by.

I thought of taking my club building to the next level and maybe start doing work for customers but not sure if there is money to be made.

I'm a little surprised everyone is using long curing epoxy. I've always used quick cure and never had any problem at all. But I do make sure my hosels are totally clean and shaft tips are clean and properly abraded.
