How do you keep score?

We use those things called scorecards and pencils. However.... usually when we're playing I also keep our scores and bets on my phone using an app called Strokes. Someone else keeps the card for a backup and to turn in to the pro shop.

When I used to use the scorecard (I use an app now), I did something similar. 1 fora bogey, 2 for double, circled 1 for birdie, circled 2 for eagle etc. Faster than adding all of the 3/4/5!!!

Old school. Still use the course printed cards, matching embossed pencil and circle for birdies -  we only highlight the good stuff  . If playing wolf or other games, annotations for player or players winning hole or other (sandy, LD, CTP, etc.)

Pencil and paper. I use the standard geometry on the card plus fairways, greens, putts, and penalties. I still believe this is faster than using a phone app.

I keep it old fashioned, with the scorecard and pencil. I have three golf apps on my phone (golflogix, swing x swing, & 18 double bogeys), but I only use them for distances.

Game golf. Tag it and forget it. I used to write down everything fairways hit, gir, putts, my game went nowhere.  First time I broke 80 I didn’t even keep the score, at the end of the round I could recall every shot I hit each hole. 

Now I don’t even want to pay attention to the score, I acknowledge what I got each hole but do my best not to think about it and just play each shot and each hole. No pressure to make up any miss shots or have a must make shot. 

Counting shots leads to future thinking and the next thing you know you are screwed.

Not gonna lie it’s more or less the score for me in relation to par that defines a good. But I do look back at the round and take positives and negatives to improve on. But hey, a bad round of golf is still golf right? Can think of plenty worse much less enjoyable things that an off day of golf.
