Youth clubs

Jtom2012

Recommended Posts

I have an 8 year old who is very interested in golf. As of right now he has out grown his his current few clubs he has. What do you guys out there recommended for a decent full bag set up for a youth player? I don't want to spend a ton on something new going to out grow in a few years but also don't want to get anything that's not well made or on the low end. I was looking to see if I could find a deal on eBay and just cut down to size.

I'm just looking for thoughts or ideas.

Thanks

Right now my 6 year old nephew is using US Kids clubs but I've seen a lot lately on EPEC clubs. My nephew is a lefty and they aren't available for him yet but I'm considering giving them a go next. They have an interchangeable head weight system and shaft replacement program that saves you money as your kid gets older.

I prefer US Kids sets. We use them almost exclusively at our First Tee chapter. They are well built and weighted properly for each size. It does no good to put a budding golfer into a homemade set or improperly size/weight clubs. That alone creates all kinds of issues. Good intentions but poor outcomes.

These are our second choice:

Both my sons started with US Kids as their clubs/sets from age of 6 - 10. I preferred that brand as I liked the ease of determining the lengths they have through the color codes and I could add a single club/mix-match if needed. Great accessories also. Once they were 10-11 we switched to PING Junior sets. Both great companies. We had friends that used Cobra junior and Callaway junior varieties as well.

If you're looking for a very good budget option, let me recommend the component company Diamond Tour Golf: https://www.diamondtour.com/golf-clubs/junior-golf.html

This is the same company that makes the well-regarded Sub70 clubs.

My son plays regularly, and while I'd love to get him a set of ProdiGs or the US Kids Tour series clubs, the prices are hard to take, knowing that he's likely to only get a single season from a set. The DT clubs have worked very well for Kirke; they're properly weighted for a kid, which obviously matters a ton (and something that not even the name brand OEMs get right, as we learned the hard way with a Cobra boxed set).

If you are up for building clubs, you can save even more while getting your kid clubs that are perfectly fitted to him.

Thanks! I'm a big fan of Sub70 so that is something I will give a look!

Going to go the Diamond Tour route. Thanks for the advice! I have an 8 year old and with how they grow I can't justify spending a ton of money. He's already a heck of a putter!
