How'd you play?

MmmmmmBuddy

Recommended Posts

Played today and last week. I've cut down on doubling up on weekends, I'm usually only playing once a week, and it looks like that will be the case once the green fees go up and the courses become jammed to the gills.

Last week I was around 90 before blowing it late. This time, I needed a double bogey for 90 on a par 4. I hit two drives OB one to each side of the fairway and just gave up. My short game was just slightly off, in past few weeks I could hit a shot just on the edge of the rough and get it to die and roll out right near the hole. Today I hit two or three feet past the rough and all my shots ran 15 feet by. Didn't help the greens were slow as could be so those putts coming back were brutal.

Well played in an outting where we took best ball net and gross out of our 4 some. We shot 73, 68 net. I shot 75 on my own ball so that should give you an idea of what our team played like. Finished 3rd gross second to last net.

I hit the ball great except driver and putter. There's the advantage of not being so long. Wild for me is more balls in the rough than usual. I was never in any serious trouble off the tee, just had longer shots in. Fortunately I was lights out with my hybrids and short irons. My putting issues were line, not speed so I only had 1 3 putt but missed all 9 of my birdie tries from inside of 20 feet. A couple of those were inside 10.

An ugly 11 over at a course I haven't played in years. Started badly, and got worse as the front 9 continued, 7 over at the turn.

Finally got the ball in play on the back 9, and scored a bit better. Yet another reminder that I shouldn't bother playing on the day after being on call. I think my game needs me to get a good nights sleep, otherwise I struggle.

Horrible golf weekend......ugh! The weather was perfect. I shot a 41/47:88 on Saturday with a Birdie....(got $38 for skin). Then Sunday I totally fell apart, gaming a 51/51: 102.....don't think I have done that in over 10 years. I was screwing up all over, if I hit a great drive I would mess up the approach or not be able to putt.

Terrible golf weekend. Redoing my bedroom at home and due to some setbacks I played no golf this weekend. Nothing like being prepared to play an outing at Pebble next Saturday. Guess I am taking my D game at best.

Ditto Foz!!  Not one of my better weekends.  I have no idea what happened, but somehow I managed to hit one lousy shot on most every hole.  My worst weekend in quite awhile.  86/84.  Putter is still acting up, so it's not saving me.

Well, I played a bit better than I was expecting! I've been fighting a head cold (aka actual Man Flu) all week - the usual symptoms including coughing, sneezing and only getting 5 hours of sleep (instead of 7-8).

I shot 83 at Wembley Golf Course (par 72, 5700m), so only 2 worse than my current handicap. My playing partner hadn't swung a club in 2 years, so it was pretty impressive when he shot 88 for the round.

The course itself was in great condition, and will be even better when the 18 hole mini-golf course opens in the next fortnight.

Played in the rain yesterday, shot a 44 on front. Wasn't happy with my play on the Par 5's. There are three on the front. I was 5 over.

On the back I just couldn't buy a putt. I made par on my nemesis, so I believe that the Golf Gods evened the score. I shot a 50 on the back.

Still getting used to my new irons. Don't have them dialed in yet.

Day off today, public holiday for a horse race, bizarre to the rest of the world, but good for me.

Played a modified Stableford multiplier event (? Texas multiplier) All tee off, then pick one ball to play from, then each ball plays out the hole, and Stableford points multiplied. 3 tee shots each. Got a late call up, about 10 minutes before tee off, managed to get to the tee only a few minutes late. Proceeded to butcher my first hole, but settled reasonably quickly.

One of the guys I played with smashed the ball, but sprayed them everywhere. We had 99m to the pin for our second on a 440m par 5, it was playing downwind, but it was crazy.

My game was pretty solid, hard to tell what my score really was, took a few tee shots that were better than mine, but also a few that were worse. I putted really well, except for a lazy 3 putt on my second hole after nearly hoping for birdie.

A bit of fun in some indifferent weather, 3 club wind, rain, sunshine but thankfully no hail.

Contrary to better judgement, I played on Monday with the usual guys from the club.  I really didn't think anyone would show up, but thought I better go there anyway.  It had rained hard the night before, and in the morning the wind was blowing 25-35 with higher gusts.  I drove in 20 minutes before our tee time and everyone was there!!  I barely had time to change shoes and get my bag out of the trunk.  When I got to the tee, I realized that I forgot my GPS and laser (I took them inside the day before because it's getting cold here at night).  Oh well, with this much wind, who really cares what the exact yardage is.

As expected I bogeyed the first hole after a poor drive into the wind.  Another bad drive on 2 into the mounds on the right (wind helped it), but managed to make a par.  The #3 hole is the #1 hcp hole; with 12 foot mounds right, wind coming from the right and water all down the left side and in front of the green.  I have made everything from birdie to a 9 on this hole, but I managed a par.  The #4 hole is an elevated par 3 that plays anywhere from 110 to 160 depending on the tees and pin location.  It was 120 which is normally a 42* SCOR, but directly into the wind I hit 6i and didn't get there, but made par.  #5 is also into the wind, a par 5 550 yards; Driver, 3H from the rough, 5H from the rough, 42* SCOR to 6 inches for a par.  I got a par on the downwind #6, another par 5, but bogeyed 7, 8, and 9.  I was whipped walking in the wind and decided to quit; so did one of the other guys.  So, I shot +4 on a horrible day.  To put this into perspective...  I shot +8 on the front nine the day before and there was no wind and I rode in a cart!!

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Man, I'm whipped!!  I walked 18 with the guys at the club.  Absolutely gorgeous day; sunny, no wind, temps in high 60's.  Managed a 79 playing the Kirkland Signature ball that a friend gave me to try.  Nice ball, but will not be my winter ball.  It's just a little too firm for winter golf around here.  Anyway, as we were coming off 18 green, my wife called and said she wanted to play because the weather was so nice.  We got a cart, and we played nine holes before it started getting dark.  First time I played 27 holes this year where I didn't ride the entire way.  Man, I'm whipped!!

Yet another round played in a ridiculously strong wind, about 30mph.

82 net 77, drove the ball probably better than I ever have, 12/14 fairways, the 2 misses were both straight, one block, one pull. Drove our 3rd green (330yd) for the first time, and picked up some cash for NTP in 2, slid past the hole with the eagle putt. Greens were really hard after a recent coring, and almost impossible to hold down wind.

Had 3 X 3 putts, all downhill and downwind. Speed was extremely hard to judge.

Getting really sick of playing in near gale force winds. Hopefully the wind will ease up soon.

Shot 38 on the front, hit my tee shot on 10 and then the ambulance came. :(

My irregular heartbeat again. We were at 208 when the paramedics arrived. They got it down to 130 after two rounds of medicine but did not recommend that I finish the round. I was inclined to agree with them.

Played Pebble this morning and definitely lives up to everything that I have heard. Started a bit shaky with a double and two bogies to start the round then rattled off three straight birds and closed the front 9 at one over. A bit of an up and down back to shoot 38 coming in to post 75 from the US Open plaques.

It is really a special place and not only for the golf. The lodge is just an awesome place to spend a few days.

The greens are tiny. I made a birdie on 11 which may have been one of the smallest greens I have ever played. Was also nice to have a 6 foot putt that broke 3 feet. I have to say that 8 was one of my favorite holes. Cool tee shot up the hill then playing down the hill over the cliffs to a tiny little green. Also liked 6 a bunch as well. Hit driver up the right side then had a blind second up the hill over the cliffs from 240.

Funny - on 6 our caddie told us to hit the ball as far left as possible.  A couple of guys were actually on the hill. I hit a 3 wood and the sucker rolled down the cart path to right next to the bunker.  Hit a blind 4 iron short of the green, about 70 yards.  Lots of ways to skin that cat.

8 is a great hole!  Hybrid off the tee and then the same club to the green.  Pulled it left - again hit the cart path and wound up on the hill just over the green - with a flop shot back to the green - was scared to death of sculling it into the ocean.  Hit the shot of the day, although it rolled to the front fringe. Got up and down from there to save bogey.

Damn what a fun course!

How was the walk up 18?

83. Back to struggling off the tee, chipping is terrible, and I'm not making ANY putts outside three feet.

Time to just hit driver at the range, then chip and putt for an hour each time. Ugh. Frustrating.

I aimed left and hit a dead block...was not planning on going anywhere close to the cliff.

The walk up 18 was awesome and more so since my wife came out and joined me. We walked 17 and 18 together.

Yikes! Hope you are OK now. Maybe some rest???

I have something called SVT or a benign tachycardia. You could look it up. I get an attack or two a year and normally I can self correct it. As I've gotten older I've had three of episodes when the self correct hasn't worked. I've needed to go to the ER and medicine has brought me back into rhythm.

The common theme of those episodes has been hot sunny day after a few hours on the golf course and my allergies are kicking up. Those contribute to dehydration which makes it harder to self correct. The elevated heart rate leads to profuse sweating, greater dehydration. Its a predictable pattern.

The events can last up to an hour with my heart rate up close to 200. That and the meds used to bring it down make me feel like I just ran a marathon the next day.

Honestly though it's just a nuisance. People with this condition live normal life spans and rarely die from it. Its pretty hard to ignore a heart rate of 200. :)

While not at the same time I was fit for every club in my bag as well as the Pro VI ball. I use the chrome soft x ls on my league course.  It has much softer softer greens than the club that I belong to.

I’m on a mission to shoot my age - lifetime lowest round is 66 and I’m currently 67.
