Golf Ball Visability

Recommended Posts

Question for the hive mind that is here. Under certain light conditions (usually bright sunny skys or late evening) I find it really hard to see where my ball flies (I lost 2 balls off the tee the other day as I saw where they went but couldn't see them land) and I was wondering if using a Yellow Ball (Srixon Z Star Diamond or Pro V1x) will help with this? I already wear glasses and was thinking of maybe playing using my contacts and maybe a lighter shade lenses in my Oakleys.

Any suggestions?

Alex

That’s exactly why I play a yellow ball - as I got, cough cough, older… I would loose a white ball in the sky.  I always wear sunglasses (tansission lenses).  For a long time I played the OnCore Elixr ball that had a matte greenish/yellow color. That was much easier to keep track of.

I prefer yellow balls when I can play them. I like the srixon divide balls, but depending on how they land,  they can be more difficult to spot in the rough or sand if you didn't see it land.

I can almost never track a ball in flight, and 50% of the time I end up driving past where I think it landed and going backwards to spot it, depending on how the sun is shining that day.

The biggest thing I've had to consider is the performance of the ball. I loved playing the chrome soft triple track in yellow, it gave me good performance and was almost always easy to spot!

Can't really speak to visibility in flight, but my experience is that yellow balls stand out much better in thick rough and are a lot cheaper than hiring a forecaddy.

I’ve played yellow balls for years.  My foursome mates generally play white.  I find the yellow balls much easier to follow in the air and to find once they come to rest.

i lose sight of the white balls against fluffy cumulus clouds or when they pass through the lighter part of the sky near the horizon.  No such problem with the yellow.  I generally play with sunglasses on.  Nevertheless, I have found it easier to track the yellow with or without sunglasses.

I have played the ProV1 in yellow, but not the Srixon.  According to MGS ball testing, there is a spin difference in the white and yellow balls, but I doubt anyone other than a plus handicap could tell the difference.  I play the Titleist AVX in yellow, which is the same color and shade as the ProV.

An aside:  I know a lot of golfers who will never play a ball other than white.  Fine, it’s their choice.  But, if it’s easier for you to follow a colored ball, don’t hesitate to play one.  Buy a sleeve or two and find out.

Honestly the Oakley golf lenses help me keep track in the air, have you tried anything like that?

I tend to wear glasses when playing golf but do wear contacts for other sports, maybe I should start wearing them along with my Oakleys again.
