Popular Post edingc
Introduction One of my goals for the 2019 golfing season was to walk most of my rounds. Not only is it better for my pocketbook, it’s good exercise. I also feel like I play better when I walk as it gives me an opportunity to really think about shots and strategy. I detest carry bags (terrible for my shoulders and posture), so I prefer a walking cart. I started out this season with a hand-me-down, partially-broken Orlimar cart from my in-laws. The cart has the typical nylon straps with plastic clasps, two ball holders, a few tee holders, and a worthless scorecard holder (they never actually hold the scorecard in well). The Orlimar cart had seen better days and was patched together with glue and duct tape. About halfway through my round last week, the top bag rest finally broke completely off. I planned on golfing again the Thursday following, so I headed to Amazon and ordered the CaddyTek Caddylite EZ V8 - EZ-Fold 3 Wheel Golf Push Cart for $179.99 and it was delivered in two days, in time for my Thursday round. The CaddyTek had a few features which were important to me and influenced my decision: Bungee-cord style bottom bag strap Strapless upper bag holder Integrated basket for my range finder Cell phone holder A secure scorecard/random junk compartment First Impressions As usual, Amazon’s delivery was on point. The cart arrived USPS in a rather large box. The Amazon reviews mentioned there was some assembly required. The cart came securely-packaged in three large pieces, the main frame assembly and two wheels. The umbrella holder also came unattached. I figured the assembly would take some time, but I was wrong. From unboxing to completion, the cart took about 15 minutes to put together. The cart has the usual foot brake, a small coat pocket and a cooler suspended from the back. The upper bag holder has rubber grips in it. After setting your bag on the cart you pinch the arms against the sides of your bag to secure the bag in place. The mesh pocket is plenty big for my rangefinder. Scorecard compartment is opened with a button press and is deep enough to hold additional balls, etc. The cart will also hold three tees and has a magnetic spot for a ball marker (provided, also). The cart folds up and down easily with a press of a button. You must rotate the front wheel 180 degrees to fully fold down the cart. The one downside here is that there is not a locking mechanism. The instructions reference using the bottom bag bungee straps. I have opted to not use anything and just hold it together as I move it around. The cart is not overly large or small. It’s easily maneuvered in and out of my compact car’s trunk. Real World Results I played 18 holes Thursday morning with the cart. It was easily pushed around my home course, which has a lot of elevation changes. The wheels glide easily (almost too easily – it took off from me once or twice) and are silent. No pulling to one side or the other, though an Allen wrench is included to adjust the front wheel if necessary. The tires are airless, so no risk of a flat. Parking brake works as it should. I really enjoyed having my range finder within easy reach. Previously I’ve had to fish it out of my bag each time I needed a distance, which is frustrating mid-round. I shot one of the best rounds of my life and think the ease of access to scorecard, phone and laser really helped me mentally. It’s one less thing to worry about. I used the coat pocket which had no issues with my spring jacket. Only downside of this rear-hanging pocket/cooler is that it got pretty muddy from the wet course conditions. The cell phone holder uses a bungee cord to hold the phone. It seemed secure for the most part, and I had no problems during the round. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the upper bag arms held secure even going up and down hills. The only major negative to the cart is that the bag arms block access to the larger zipper pockets on my cart bag. I’d have to physically remove the bag from the upper arms to open these pockets. Generally, all I keep in the large and long pockets is an extra box of balls. Unless I’ve lost most than 8-10 balls this will never be a problem for me. Final Thoughts (For now…) Overall, I’m extremely happy with my purchase. It would cost me an additional $10/round to ride at my home course. The cart will pay for itself this season, and my health will be better for it as well. At $179.99, this cart sits somewhere in the upper-middle of price range for walking carts. I think it’s a great value for the price. sirchunksalot, MaxEntropy, GolfSpy BOS and 11 others 14 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. And while it's a nice cart there are some things I don't like:The 4 wheel is less maneuverable and requires more energy to push through thick rough. No bottom bag strapThe top bag strap is a bungee that when fastened around the bag it compresses it so it's difficult to pull out clubsOther than that it's a nice cart. Miketheripper
It's nice to see somebody doing a review of this push cart, I bought the earlier version of the caddytek EZ fold a few years ago for $115, it's basically the same cart, but uses a bungee cord to secure the top of the bag and there's no cell phone holder, after three years of steady use I've had no problems whatsoever, and it's half the price of a clicgear push cart and comes with a lot of accessories you have to pay extra for on the clicgear, a handbrake would be nice, but I rarely use the brake anyway, so, not a big deal. Bucky CC
Nice review. I've been using a previous model Caddytek push cart that I bought at Costco for $99 a few years ago. My only complaint is the red wheels have slowly faded into a pinkish color. MaxEntropy
Great write-up, @edingc! I want to get a decent push cart, but my trunk is really small (have to take D and 3W out to get the bag in) and haven't found any in my price range that fold small enough. This looks fairly small, but just so I can get a frame of reference, what kind of car is that? Can you include a pic that had bag and cart in the trunk? edingc 1 Quote Driver: Epic Speed 9* (set -1) MMT 70X 3W: Tour B JGR Recoil 760ES 3H, 4H: Tour B JGR 19*, 23* Recoil 780ES 4-AW: Tour B JGR HF2 Modus3 Tour 105 SW: RTX Zipcore Black Satin 54* LW: TAIII Black 58* Putter: Scottsdale TR Senita Bag: BigMax Dri Active Lite Ball: TP5x or AVX (yellow) Pushcart: BigMax iQ+ Testing Complete, Final Review Posted: Sub70 TAIII Forged Wedges

edingc
@MaxEntropy, I fit the cart, my shoe box, my tripod for the range and my bag in the trunk. If I wanted to put my driver in it would probably have to go separately and lay on top of the bag. It's full, but there's still some room. The Cavalier does have a deep trunk, however. TwoCoatsOfWax
Thanks for the well-written review. I would interested how the upper clamps are holding up after you have a full season under your belt. I recently bought a new push-cart as well and nearly bought this exact one. I passed because I wasn't sure how the strapless upper clamps would hold up over time or how well they would hold a stand bag without rigid sides. edingc and cksurfdude

At least one of the Amazon reviews referenced using a bungee cord in addition to the clamps. I do suspect a softer, less rigid bag could be problematic. I was surprised, though, that the bag didn't move at all even after 18 holes last week. I still only have one round on it, unfortunately, as the rainy weather has closed courses around here for the past few days. cksurfdude 1 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. edingc
In case anyone has reservations about the pressure grip top arms - During my Sunday round I walked while the rest of my family foursome took carts. I jogged much of the course as a result (I often jog between holes or down fairways since it's great exercise, and jogging keeps me from slowing down the carts), but the pressure grip arms had no issues keeping the bag securely fastened despite all of the bumps. This is easily one of the best golf purchases I've made in a while. sirchunksalot, Miketheripper, MattF and 2 others 5 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. I too wanted to start walking more and could and have carried my bag but, kind of like driving a mini-van I have no shame rolling my clubs if it's easier. I saw this review and some others on youtube. This one is spot on by the way. However, everywhere I looked they were sold out. So a google search later I happened upon the TGW 3 Tour. Looks good, is it as good as this one. Can't find reviews on that one for anything. It looks the same? Long story short, it's exact. They must have bought Caddytek or just branded it for TGW. It was on sale, cha ching, bought. Played 9 at a local par 3 course yesterday. This thing is awesome. I think the only thing that might be a slight up grade is a hand brake instead of the foot brake. I whole heartedly give my stamp for anyone looking for a push cart that isn't as expensive as the top of the line models but, likely as good or better... tony@CIC, cksurfdude and edingc 3 Quote Driver: Taylormade '16 9.5* M1 Fujikura XLR8 61 S RH 3 Wood: Cobra F7 14.5 Degree Aldila DVS Fairway 75X 5 Wood: Taylormade R15 17 degree Fujikura Speeder 67 S Hybrid: Ping G400 3 Hyb 19 degree S Irons: Titleist 716 AP2 4-PW Aerotek Steelfiber i110 cw S RH standard lie and 1* strong Wedges: 50 Callaway MD 4, 54 Vokey SM5, 58 Callaway Forged Putters: Oddysey White Hot #7 Fang, Scotty Cameron Futura Phantom Mallet, Callaway S2H2
HeathS16
About halfway through my round last week, the top bag rest finally broke completely off. smcleod417
My 2 cents on the Caddytek V8. I've got essentially the same cart as reviewed above, except mine has the swivel front wheel. My other/previous cart is a Clicgear 3.5+, which has hundreds of rounds on it, so my thoughts on the Caddytek are generally compared to the Clicgear. I've used the cart for around 15 rounds so far and am very pleased with it. Pro's -The layout of the cart is great and better than the Clicgear. The cell phone holder and the integrated storage/cooler bag are real pluses. -The one button fold is great. Not that the Clicgear is difficult, but this is just easier. -The alignment mechanism is super easy to adjust and my cart runs straight as an arrow when the swivel wheel is locked. FYI-adjust the alignment with your bag on the cart and make very small adjustments. -I also have the seat and at first I was concerned as it seems flimsy and just slips in to the support. Now I'm a fan. I've had no issues and the install/removal is super simple and quick. Con's -Although the upper support arms hold the bag well and are very simple, on my preferred cart bag they happen to fall in the wrong spot, basically right where my towels attach. This causes the arms to have a tendency to fold down. Note, my bag has never come close to falling off, so this is being nit picky. -The brake is activated with your foot which requires you to stick your foot down by the right wheel. It's just a bit awkward and not as simple/intuitive as the Clicgear. Thankfully my home course is very flat, so it's not really an issue. -Overall construction seems a bit flimsy compared to the Clicgear. Saying this, after around 15 rounds nothing seems loose or falling off so it's more likely this is built strong enough and the Clicgear is built like a tank. In fact I can attest, the Clicgear is built to take a beating (i.e. skull a wedge over the green and take a swing at it or let it go down a hill and run into a tree a ~30mph). To make my opinion worth the ~2 cents I hope it is, I'll answer the all important questions. 1-Would you buy it again? Yep. 2-Would you recommend it over the Clicgear? Yes, overall it's as good or better than the Clicgear and costs less. The only reason I'd buy the Clicgear is if you're hard on carts and need the bullet proof durability of the Clicgear. One last note. If you want more accessory attachment points on the Caddytek, you can use the Clicgear universal accessory mounts. You just need to add a couple wraps of electrical tape on the bars as they are a smaller O.D. than the Clicgear. Once installed, if you use black tape you don't see the tape. Using the Clicgear mounts I have 4 mounts (towel, sand bottle, speaker, water bottle). McFlik
Looking forward to receiving my new cart later this week and getting it out on the course this weekend! Reviews in general are hugely positive for this one. Can anyone tell me what size mobile phone holder is, in terms of width? I'm hoping it'll comfortably hold my Samsung S20 Ultra... Seems to be one of the better values out there right now and some will be in stock soon. Definitely still enjoying the cart, and I use it a lot. I think I've only taken a power cart four times this year? I see Amazon still has the silver model (same one I have) for the same price I paid. I have slightly more than 40 18-hole rounds on it, and plenty more 9-hole rounds, so I must have close to 200 miles walking with it? So far everything has held up really well. The top bag arms aren't perfect, but they definitely hold the bag securely enough that it doesn't just fall off. I will say, my old OGIO cart bag was better on the cart than my current Sun Mountain Sync. The OGIO was more "solid" in construction, and the top arms clamped better against it. The Sun Mountain, being a lightweight bag, is made mostly of nylon and lacks some of the solidness of the OGIO so that top arms don't grab quite as well. I'll be curious to see how the Cobra cart bag for #CobraConnect fits in it. I don't have a lot to compare to, but this is definitely a solid cart.
