I think that's the one thing I have learned this year, is that I have to trust the system and not be concerned about what should/shouldn't work.  I really saw that in my latest iron fitting.

Played in our club’s member/guest this weekend and while the format had to be modified a bit, my uncle and I had a great time. We had heavy storms last night, tons of trees and branches down, standing water on the course and in bunkers, and matches just were not playable today. 

So they skipped matches and went straight to the alternate shot shootout. We earned 2.5 points in three matches yesterday which won our flight and got us into the shootout. First hole my uncle hit our tee shot and it ended up a bit right. I had 76 yards to the pin but a tree in the way. Punched a 6 iron perfectly and we had a birdie putt, ended up with a par and moved on. I had the tee on the next hole and unfortunately fanned one OB, which effectively knocked us out. Haven’t done that in weeks, but I think nerves and my own head got to me a bit. 

Overall, it was truly a GREAT weekend of golf. In 27 holes Saturday, I shot 42, 43 and 44, hit 6/6 greens on Par 3s (a weakness of mine in the past) and parred every one, closed out our first match and won multiple holes throughout the day. Driver was more good than bad Saturday, too, just couldn’t keep it going. One of my 2024 goals was to make the shootout this year, so I can check that one off the list! Already looking forward to next year’s event. Now it’s time to keep the steady play going and hit my goal of breaking 80. After this weekend, I think I can do it before season’s end.

Was able to get out and play early this morning at a local private club. I was coming down off of a 101° fever with body aches and chills the night before with full intention of bailing in the morning. Luckily I woke up feeling 100x better and made the 7:24 tee time. 

Then I proceeded to take a quad 8 on the first hole… sounds about right…. I was able to claw my way back with a couple birdies on the front and one on the back for an 83. This round could have easily been a lot lower had it been for the quad and 2 doubles. I definitely didn’t have my normal game all things considered but am okay with the score. Overall I had 21% FIR, 44% GIR, and 32 putts.

I’ve been putting pretty consistently lately averaging 30-32 putts per 18 holes which always helps. I just need to get my driver and tee balls to fall in line and the scores should come down back into the 70’s

Managed to get out for 9 this morning, but it was a sweaty affair. ~80f at 0900 was fine, but not so much the 87% humidity.

Maybe it was the humidity, but I just wasn't comfortable and didn't feel like the swing was consistent and I made a couple of silly club decisions resulting in wrong distances and awkward recovery shots, short-sided chips or long first putts.

Par 36: Score 40 (+4); FIR 2/7; GIR 5/9; Putts 18 (ave 1st putt distance to pin 27.2ft!)

First round with the new Scotty putter and GP reverse taper pistol grip. Greens were rolling very slow after a lot of recent rain. I was putting on line consistently, but didn't quite get the pace right. Even downhills were pulling up very short. But I did hole a few good putts and had two disgusting lip-outs. Having an average 27ft first putt really didn't help my stats, so I'm not unhappy. I'm not going to see many 1-putts with that stat. Last few rounds I've averaged between 7.4 and 19.2ft 1st putt distances according to Arccos. After the round I spent some time on the practice green working with the Scotty.

Driver was mostly behaving. Longest drive was 312yds from an elevated tee with a light breeze from behind left. Unfortunately, that drive leaked right into trees and I had to punch out a low recovery shot to greenside rather than pin-seeking.lol

3W was on fire- used twice... first off the tee on a par 4 with a creek at my driver distance, hit a smooth 3W with a baby fade and finished at 240yds. Second use was an up-hill 250ish Par 4: A full, well struck shot ended up just off the back edge of the green. Two putts for my only birdie.

Chipping was ok, but not great. Weaker than usual and distance control wasn't as good as usual. One of those days.

Hopefully I'll get out on the range/ practice greens again before league on Thursday.

What a day today! 2nd round of the 36 hole Senior Men's Club Championship and I started the day 3 back after a sloppy 78 Saturday.

Hit 8 fwys - the five I missed, missed in the first cut. Never in any trouble all day.

15 GIR - best approach game I've had in more years than I can remember. I think 15 is the most greens I've ever hit in a round!

3 birdies- 12 ft, 8 ft, 6 ft

1 bogey- let a slick downhiller get away from me and couldn't hole the come backer.

The 3 greens I missed, front fringe, pin high left fringe, 4th shot on a par 5 from 76 yds out to 12 feet. Made pars on all.

81 ft of putts made

30 putts.

Looked at the leader board all day and took over the lead by myself on 10 and finished the back and the day at -2, 69!

Won the tournament by 5 shots.

It was a mentally challenging day all day, but I figured out the difference between Saturday and Sunday. I was cutting my follow through short on Saturday and not hitting my finish. Did that all day on Sunday and had just a spectacular day and result.

Went out on the second shotgun, but as I was the only golfer there wasn't much of a shotgun. Might be the 107 degree temperatures at the time deterred the rest of the playing field. Was working on making a consistent turn. I kept my legitimate score and shot a crappy 47 (ten over) with one double and no pars on the back nine where I started. Turn wasn't the trick. 

Changed my focus for the next nine. Instead of trying to the turn right, I went for getting the feeling of the turn right. And, that did the trick. On the front nine I shot a one over 37 with one birdie. 

That "feeling" I can feel as I sit here and write. I will take it to the Wild Bunch round tomorrow!

I was pretty happy with my weekend round. As a high handicapper, it wasn’t a perfect round and it took me a few holes to get into a groove, but I was generally hitting the ball decent and straight off the tee, my approach was good, with mostly good connections and shot shape, and my putting was probably my best this season. Looking forward to the next round!

On a trip down to NC with my son for college orientation in Charlotte and I had free time so took the drive to Tobacco Road. As a plus I was able to enjoy the round with one of my good friends that relocated to NC from Long Island. Can’t say enough of how much fun this place is and again it did not disappoint as the course was in great shape. No matter how many times I play here I will never get used to being able to drive the cart through the bunkers, just feels wrong on a lot of levels. Shot 75 on the day and had a great time catching up with an old friend that I haven’t seen in quite a long time.

Well... I sorta played a tournament yesterday. Just absolutely miserable front 9 (worse 9 since I started playing golf). I was definitely not in it to win it.
Worked on my game on the back 9.

Played 9 yesterday afternoon (yes, hot and humid!) and played mostly (emphasized) ok.

Getting off the tee with the driver was especially good .. all shots either fairway or playable; the Par 3s though are still a problem...

Short game was better than usual - except for two greenside bunkers I found and they insisted I take an extra shot or two to get out. First putt distance control was pretty good .. no 3 putts!

First round with a new to me Miz ES21 that I really like - made a nice up and down on the second to last hole, a Par 5, for par. Almost did it again on the last hole, too. 

The bigger problem for me still is all the in-between shots... Topped or chunked too many of them...

Nice score and what a course Tobacco Rd looks!

I may have to nudge my kids towards colleges near epic golf courses, whether they're interested in golf or not... ha ha.

Great round on a beautiful course! Tobacco Road is definitely high on my bucket list of courses. Thank you for sharing your experience there.

Personal best yesterday! +9 at my local course, Whispering Ridge GC. Played Saturday shot my average, +16. Then back again Sunday, didn't exactly shoot the lights out but managed to be 9 over after 18. No double bogeys and one birdie. I was really focusing on the course management, and not going for the "hero shot". Job done, looking forward to getting back out this week.

Just could not stop swinging too hard today. Not a bad day 41/42 but not a good one either. Instead of going to the range and working, I have been going out on the course and doing my practice there. It seems I need to go back to the range.

I did a quick 3 hole challenge with a few work associates from the gc yesterday.  One of them is a pro in the shop and she is good!!! D1 top player for Auburn university when she was there.  She told one of the kids to stop swinging like it was a baseball and to go at half speed. Kid laced his next 2 drives straight, and they went nearly 300 yards.  Why can't I be that fast!

I've had a really interesting few week span. I've finally started to lower the handicap and break the string of mid 90s. Earlier this year it felt like 89 was a great score and was mainly shooting 92-98. Now my scores have been mostly 88-93 and I'd consider a 86 a great (but so far unattainable score thus far).

Sunday I played awful-- I was mainly out of practice but off the tee I was going right. I couldn't hit any shot with a right to left shot shape. After a quick email to the pro, and a hot fix I went out and played yesterday. I went bogey, par, birdie, par, bogey (missed a 3 footer) before rain and storms ending my round. I still wasn't able to consistently work the ball right to left, but irons and even drivers were a lot more tuned in than they have been. May need another range day or two to get it back to where I can work the ball both ways.

Played 36 yesterday. It was a ton of fun but couldn’t sink a putt to save my life. Bad execution on the greens. Just disappointed with my 5-10 ft range putts. Of the missed short putts. A third were slightly pulled and not hit on the right line the rest were over or under reading the breaks.  Only 1 birdie in 36 and I hit some really nice approach shots too.  Well I am hoping a new putter gets me on track.

I entered a VGA tournament last year at my home course and had a similar experience. Absolutely blew up on several holes and shot 97 on a track I'm normally mid to upper 80's on. It took a while to get over it. Go play it again today and I bet you shoot a 75!

Welllllllllll. If I could count only holes 2 thru 8 I would say pretty good. If I count the double on 1 and the triple on 9. Yikes. 2-8 all pars. Honey Locust trees are very deceiving. They look so airy. Don't be fooled. They suck up balls from mid flight like no ones business. No. 9? Almost perfect drive. Felt so confident that My 8 would easily reach the green. I knew my round was still salvageable. 2 putt par good to go. Somehow I hit that shot on the equator and it slammed into the head of a bullfrog in the pond.. Not a pretty hole after that. Oh well.

Not sure what happened,  but my 9 holes after working Marshall duties was just moving so smoothly. I kept my swing off the tee box in check, and never once tried to murder the ball.  I only tried to hero shot from the fairway with my 3w on a very trying par 5 1 time. Big mistake... only went 165 yards...lesson learned . Still salvaged par.  Hit nearly every fairway,  and had only 1 bunker shot to make out of today.  Putting was just awesome for me except for one hole I 3 putted on. It was a 45 footer, downhill,  massive tier drop too. Slid 20 feet past it, got it back to 2 feet.

I shot a 39 !!!  Had to stop after 9, due to massive thunderstorms rolling in.

Scored a PB in the 9 hole league this evening with a 33.  Started with 3 birdies followed up by 6 pars.  All phases of the game were working and except for a couple misreads on putts all shots were executed as i pictured them.  A round like that will keep me from quitting the game for at least a month!
