How'd you play?

Played today, shot a meek 93. Wind was brutal and probably took an extra club if not two on each shot, especially approaches. Had chipped a lot better too but today chunked a couple. Was pretty damp from a storm last night but still not an excuse. Tough trend last couple rounds have been in the low 90s, need to get back to the 80s and beyond!

Met up with RevKev and his mid-20’s friend John. John played the tips while Rev & I played the Whites at Seminole Lakes Country Club. John stayed even all day while Rev bested me. I shot a 47/46:93 and was glad I was able to finish. We were fighting 13 mph winds with gusts up to 22 mph.  All in all, we had a great time.

... I played a few courses with snowbirds last winter and none of us had played them. Several times we stood on the tee and had absolutely no idea where to hit or drives. Thankfully they were mountain courses so I was riding and I had to drive my cart 200 yds into the fairway to see where to hit our tee shots. Beyond silly. Then one of those courses had several blind approach shots too! Mind boggling that a couple of golfers had recommended that course as one of their favorites.

YB doesn't live up north. I have an allergic reaction to getting blue balls. Snow is a four letter word.

YB isn't old enough to retire. I have to work a day job to afford all my trips to haunt you guys. So bear with me if I'm not quick on getting back to you. 

But then again, if I was retired I wouldn't get around as quickly as I do and would be complaining about all my aches and pains like the rest of you old farts!

There is one hole that from the blue and black tees one can’t see ANY part of a fairway, landing area, nothing, it has un-mowed brush as far as the eye can see, literally not even the beginning of a fairway or anything to have an idea of where to aim. It looks like one is facing a field with trees in it… Ridiculous

Reached my long par 5 in 2 today, from the blues. That doesn’t happen often. Of course I missed the eagle putt…pffft

Have you played Emerald Canyon in Parker yet?  One drive is through a narrow canyon and up/over a rise of a good 20'.  They do have a spotter that watches and signals it is safe to hit but all one can rely on is the picture of the hole layout on the golf card to know it's straight.  Another hole on the back is blind downhill and very deceiving in layup area distance.  In the days before all our GPS and range finders, you are best served having someone whose played the course let you know about the 80' deep and 100 yard long canyon that is at the end of the runway.

No, you won't get around as quickly as you do now.  I imagine that when you retire, some podunk driving range operator will draw a couple of black lines around you.  It will be easy since most of your dimples will be worn away, but you will still be tormenting golfers of the beginning kind.  With your aches and pains you won't fly as far as you used to, and your ball flight will be a double-breaker!  Of course, on the other hand you could get lucky and end up refurbished, and we all know how well that turns out.

Google Earth, GPS, yep, no doubt they’d all help, BUT, and I know you agree, we shouldn’t NEED those to hit a tee shot. Plus, I wasn’t walking back downhill 35 yards to the cart to go get my phone, then back uphill 35 yards. Nnnnnnope.

Tuesday early 9, 46* with 8-10 mph wind.  Froze our butts off!  Played poorly, in fact we all did.  All iron shots felt like I was hitting marbles.

Similar temps this morning so we are skipping golf and scheduled to play Friday Bacon Boyz.
