Yes, when you're deailing with Poa or something else that's wirey it is a little different, but up here we have the bent grass, kentucky blue mostly. And if it's wet and long it gets thick so it can be tough after heavy rains, but once we dry up it's not challenge. JeremyD
My game has gone to poo. I never had a lesson until I was 18, and was about a 5 handicap. Became a 2 after 3 or so more lessons. developed a minor pull hook that i could play due to fear of shanking. took years off. Came back and got back down to a 4. Then I started getting lessons. My misses are worse and my handicap is flying up. I'm a 7.1 and my recent scores have me playing closer to a 14 or 15. Played small Knollwood outside Pinehurst. Played 18 and shot an 87 from the white tees (which aren't much closer than the blues). I don't need to hit driver, and what a mess. Par is a 35, but one par 5 is only 417, and 4 par 4's were playing under 270. Holy how depressing. I just opened my season today, decided to go for a quick 9 hole on a VERY short notice. Walked straight to first tee and had about 10min to swing club a bit etc. First three holes were quite ok actually (bogey train), then hit my second shot 15 meters long (most likely wrong distance from my GPS as it was quite ok shot, which could mean maybe 5m long, but not THAT much). Messed up with my short game and a triple bogey. All in all 52 shots, which means 37 net (par 35). Was feeling relatively confident, which hasn't been that common on previous seasons. A very positive start for a change. With a proper warm-up could be feeling much more loose and easy too. Golfhandds
Today was frustrating. Shot a 79 but was in 8 sand traps. My approach shots were just a little off. 2 Sandies so 25% conversion. Driver behaved today. Putter was ok but not great. No flubbed chips so that was good. One birdie. One double (in the water). Started out great. Even par for the first six then six straight bogies. I think that is my record for sand traps in a round. cksurfdude, ejgaudette, JerryB and 5 others
Popular Post David Leighton Reid
I am almost 6 months post shoulder surgery and have been working on getting back in form. On Sunday, I played the front at even par with 2 birdies, 2 bogies, and 5 pars. On the back nine, I was 2 over going into the par 4 17th hole. My Otto Phlex driver had been treating me well with no trouble....so far. I then proceeded to lose two consecutive drives OB to the right. Drive #3 found the right rough close to OB and then my 6th shot hit a tree and disappeared. My 8th shot was beside the green, where I chipped and one putted for a 10. Bogey on the final hole and I tallied a 9 over 81. Overall, I played well with only a few poor swings. chisag, Shankopotomous, Merlin1313 and 7 others 10 Quote Ping G430 Max 10k 9° w/ProLaunch 45 S Ping G425 3 wood 14.5° w/Ventus Velocore Blue-6R tipped 1" Ping G430 Max 5 wood w/Ping Tour 2.0 65 R Ping G430 Max 7 wood w/Ping Tour 2.0 65 R Ping G430 4 hyrid w/AltaCB 70 R Toura Golf CB 6-PW Recoil 95 regular Toura Golf 48° GW and Vokey Sm10 wedges 52° and 57° Scotty Cameron Phantom X 11.5 putter

Waximus Prime
Played best ball this morning with two other members (one mid-thirties, one early sixties) and our club pro. When I walked down to the putting green, the pro and the older member challenged us to old vs young, which was all good. Started off with back to back doubles (including a duff that went 60 yards on our 200 yard opening hole par 3, which my partner also did right after me haha), but I was able to just keep swinging and started to settle in. Finished the front nine 6 over, with a nice birdie on the auto-pressed ninth hole. Ended up playing the back nine 4 over, with a sidewinder putt from the collar for par to push against the pro's birdie on my course's second hardest hole. So all in all shot 80 (+10 on our par 70), and only lost a few dollars. It was a beautiful morning, really quiet on the course, and I definitely had enough of those shots that keep you coming back! funkyjudge
The last two days, I have played in two matchplay events for my travel teams, and Monday evening I played in my 9-hole league that plays a combination of matchplay and stroke play. I won every available point in all three matches, but my scores were not spectacular, by any measure! I shot 41 on Monday evening, with five pars, but the usual one really stinky hole (triple bogey) crept in on a par-3 where my tee shot wasn't all that bad (or so I thought). I hit the tee shot in a greenside bunker pin-high, only to find the ball embedded in the lip of the bunker, blasted it out really hard, doing a bit of damage to the bunker lip, and knocked it over the green. By the time I walked off the green, I carded a 6. The other three non-pars were all bogeys that could easily have been pars with better approach shots or putting. Tuesday's 85 was a story of great play, with four really ugly holes thrown-in (OBs, lost balls and one shot over the green where I ended up in a bush). I had several great holes, but the bad ones were awfully bad; I don't know if I lose focus when I am crushing my opponent, but it seems to be the case (I won the front nine 4-up with my opponent only winning one hole), and the back nine was over by hole #15. Yesterday I shot an 87, starting with three pars, including on the long and treacherous #1 handicap 3rd hole, followed by a couple of total brain farts on the comparatively easy 4th hole (high popup 5-wood off the tee into a hillside wooded area resulting in an unplayable lie, followed by a blasted 7-iron into a small creek on the opposite side of the fairway -- walked off with a 7. I got back on the par path the next couple of holes, only to hit what looked to be a great tee shot on hole #7 into a native area, and then followed that up with another apparently great drive that carried three yards too far on hole #8 into another native area that juts out into the left side of the fairway about 255 yards off the tee (that's why I hit a fairway wood off this tee). The back nine was more of the same, with spectacular holes on #10, 11, and 12 to quickly go 3-up on the back and 6-up in my match, and I closed out the overall match on hole #14. I did manage a birdie on hole #18 (a reasonably difficult par-5), and my team captain gave me a stern lecture about not posting any birdies or pars once the match has been decided, because "it's bad for your handicap". I told him that one or two strokes are not going to have much of an effect on my handicap in this league, as I play virtually every single match all 26 weeks of our season, and my handicap has only fluctuated by one stroke in either direction over the last 5 years. Boshek
Played 9 in our work golf league on Tuesday. Third round I have played since starting up. Didn't have time to warm up this time and it made a huge difference in a bad way. Shot a +35. Probably a bad sign after a sunny hot day we got some heat lightning right at the start. I lost my swing for all clubs on hole 5 and never really had my wood swing. I skyed three tee offs straight up and then when I lost the iron swing it was left and right all day. Still working on chipping and don't have a feel their yet. Putting was better was able to 2-3 putt most holes when I started way out. edingc
Amazing how a couple of physical and mental tweaks can make a big difference. Three good rounds in this week after last weekend's less than stellar performance. Tuesday 9 (Back) - 38 (+2) Wednesday 9 (Front) - 35 (-1) Thursday 18 - 37/40 -> 77 (+5) One dumb double bogey this morning after my drive landed squarely at the base of a tree and I had to go backwards out to the fairway. Momentary lapse in concentration led to missing what was basically a tap-in for an awful three-putt. I'm not in 18 hole shape just yet. Started to get tired around hole 14 and labored hard over the final five holes. Finished par, bogey, par, par, par but made a mess of each hole with some tired mistakes around the greens. sirchunksalot, GaryF, IndyBonzo and 5 others 8 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 3.6 / Anti-Cap: 9.9 (Last Updated Sept. 1, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. Never done that before for 9. it felt like a round where I was struggling off the tee and putting was just good, nothing spectacular but my approach and wedges were dialed in tight. Jarred the flag stick twice from 100 out and 150 and through multiple wedges to <5’. I needed them going because driver and 3 wood were not on board with play today. Multiple punch outs so it was a truly special round.
