How'd you play?

Had my best driving day in a very long time.

86 at Crowfield with a double, a par, and a triple 🤦🏻‍♂️ over the final 3 holes. Unnecessarily started putting pressure on myself when I saw that I was +9 thru 15 and proceeded to gag the final 3 in.

And it was on 15 that I had my drive of the day at 307yds off the tee, with 74yds to the pin … but man, the added pressure of hitting a great drive and having an “easy” approach shot is no joke … proceeded to chunk my 2nd into the front bunker, but managed to get up and down for par.

Need to update my bag within The Grint … driver was PING G410 SFT.

We had our 1st Faculty/Staff 4-Person Scramble on Monday at Stagg Hill. Although I don't particularly like the format, but it's a great way to have a little competition and get back together with golfers you haven't seen in a while (as hard as it might be to believe- not everyone shares the same enthusiasm for this wonderful sport that WE do).

All points considered we did well (+2). We hit 12 out of 14 Fairways (some were just in the rough and some were WAY off the fairway) 13 out of 18 GIRs (some were JUST on the fringe), and a few really nice up and downs to save par. But we had a few issues with our putters. The weather was chilly, windy and a few sprinkles/drizzles blew through. We all occasionally surprised ourselves with really nice drives/approach shots/chips. The 8th hole is my nemesis on this course. It's a par 5 with a L to R dogleg off the tee then it goes straight up a hill into a R to L dogleg. If you're feeling froggy, you can try and cut the corner on the 2nd shot. But the trees there usually get in the way unless you have REALLY good placement with your drive. Then you can choose to try and go over or through the trees. We got it about 90 yards (we had a little bit of a quartering tail wind) from the green with 2 (we'd decided to lay up instead of fight with the trees). I waited for my turn, I played my 58* and it hit literally 2" to the left of the cup (you could see indent on the green where it landed), bounced up a couple of inches and rolled BACK AROUND the cup to the right to about 4" away- yes we made the birdie.

We had a great time and look forward to our next one in May at Colbert Hills.

Had one of those unexpected epic days with not just one par but five pars and for the first time ever, not just two birdies in one round but on consecutive holes!  It's not unusual for me to play better on an inclement weather day but this was exceptional.  I would not mind at all if this is the evolution of my golf game as I did notice that I was coordinating my swing rhythm better with turn and the resulting ball flight and distance was much improved, as shown by the significant single boxes, no boxes and circles on the scorecard.

The other thing which I know is contributing is the absence of someone playing with me as there was no social aspect of this round.  I golf for the enjoyment of sharing the game, playing partners all bailed because of low 50s temps and rain that was beginning at tee time and got heavier as the round went by, exactly as advertised.  Little bit of rain never stopped me playing and by the 3rd fairway my jacket was off for the rest of the round, layers of wicking materials are amazing things for comfort.

Great round Derek! Five pars and two birdies is awesome in that inclement weather.

Such an odd day of golf for me today. It was really windy, 20 mph with 35 mph gusts. To start my day, I went to the range and had a phenomenal range session. As we all know, that typically leads to a round of golf that feels like you've never played golf. I was playing with a couple of buddies, so after hitting the range, I was ready to tee off.

I hit my first tee shot as well as I could hit it. About 300 yards and split the fairway. Hit a decent second shot, which led to a 50 yard pitch shot into a 560 par 5. Third shot... straight shank to the right. And that's where it went downhill. I preceded to play the front nine 12 over par, which was the worst 9 hole score I've posted in over 2 years. The weird thing was, I felt like I didn't play that bad. My irons were off all day. I was hitting a draw when I typically hit a fade, and I didn't make a putt outside 4 feet.

I was able to bounce back on the back nine and posted a 37. However, the back nine didn't feel any different than the front. Overall, I shot an 85, but had two completely different scores. Practically two completely different rounds of golf. I'm hoping to bounce back and get a better round in this Tuesday. That's league night, so I've got to get dialed in.

Well first 18 of the year was not to plan. Started Bogey, Double Bogey, Bogey, Double Bogey. So +6 through 4. Finished +10 with an 82 though. So really was able to find my grove. My wedge game was *chefs kiss* getting able smack a couple flagsticks at distance was a great feeling.

Nice day today; high 70’s at tee off time this morning.  My wife and I were supposed to play with another couple today but they canceled.  We were joined by a single… a 9th grader who is a student of our teaching pro.  Great kid with a nice swing!  Needs putting lessons.  The kid left after 6 holes to head to the teaching area.  We quit after 9 holes since it was just the two of us and we waited on every shot.  The 9 holes only took 2 hours and 30 minutes, but it seemed like an eternity when waiting.

I had 2 birdies, 3 pars, 2 bogies, a double, and a 9 on a par 4.  🤣  A really smooth +7 or 44.  But I only had 10 putts… so I got that going for me, which is nice!

Matchplay Pennant match today at Barwon Heads Golf Club, one of the most links like courses in Australia. Started well, 2 up after 9, then played a few bad shots. All square on the 17th tee, 180 yard par 3. My opponent chunked his tee shot well short of the green, I pu mine about 30 feet from the hole. He proceeded to smash his pitch straight into the flag, the flag wrapped around the ball and it dropped a foot from the pin. I managed a half after hittting a very poor first putt then holing a 10 footer. Unfortunately my opponent flushed his approach on 18 to 2 1/2 feet and made a great birdie to beat me 1 up. The greens were perfect, as good as I’ve ever putted on. Quick without being crazy but rolling perfectly.

a quick summary of "how I played" this week. I would grade it a "B".

I had two interclub matches won 1 lost 1.

Practiced Wednesday, played thursday, Friday, then "Breakfast Club" Saturday, In our group Saturday we had a former Canadian Tour player and 3 past club champions,  the scores were 71-72-73-74, I was the 73... some good golf was played by all 4 of us, I think there were 11 birdies and 1 eagle.

Looking forward to next week, taking today off...

My driver behaved much better today.  Shot 41 on the front nine (+4) and 38 on the back nine (+3) with a birdie on the par 5 #6 hole; hit a drive down the middle, an OK but not great 3W, and a 9i to 5 feet.

Nice warm sunny day, my wife and I playing with my former Dodge service manager (retired) and his brother.  On the back nine a wind came out of nowhere about 15-20mph.   I'm seeing the ball fly further when it's 85º than when it was 45º two weeks ago.  🤣

Was on route to shoot/close to break-80  yesterday but had a bad 3-hole sequence culminating with a drive OB and a 3-putt triple bogey on the 16th hole.

Played in heavy winds but managed to control my tee shots. When I wasn't in the fairway, I was just a few feet in the rough. Iron play was decent. Did not hit many greens as wind ate my shots and came short on multiple occasions despite steadily playing 2 or 3 more clubs than usul.

My short game saved the day. I rarely had that many up-and-downs in a single round. Putting was also good despite an 18" par putt that horseshoed out the cup on the 13th hole.

Myself, @MattF, @Mr_Theoo@DiscipleofPenick, @gmmiddle, and my friend Mike had a mini MGS outing at Turkeyfoot in South Akron today. It is easily the best draining course around here and has some of the best greens. Course was in great shape and a good time was apparently had by all.

I started off pretty poorly with two doubles and a triple in the first 6 holes. Finally figured out on 7 that I was getting too steep and tried to flatten things out a bit. Finished the front with three pars, shooting a +9, 46. Good play carried over onto the back and I had 6 pars, a bogey, and a birdie when we got to 18. This hole is a beast on a calm day. Today it was dead into the wind. Arccos says it was playing 650 yards. I hit a decent drive, good 3w second, and sat about 180 from the green. I grabbed a 3h since it's my stock 200 club and clipped it nicely, but pulled it (OB right, with my fade have to protect against it). I saw most of what happened next, the rest was relayed to me by the ranger. My ball hit the cart path, bounced onto the roof of the party barn (octagonal building in upper left of pic below) then jumped over to the roof of the clubhouse and slowly rolled into the gutter. Ranger said he heard it rattle down the downspout. Ended up taking a double on that hole, but am thrilled with a +2, 37 for the 9.

All-in-all, a good day, but a strange way to hit below my handicap.

... Sounds like a fun day. Conventional wisdom says about 2yds for every 10* increase in temps. So about 8 more yards. I get about 10 more in the middle of summer when it is 110* and higher. 2 shots on a par 5 with an extra 15-20yds is really nice. There is a par 5 where I can carry the bunker and hit a downslope leaving me a mid iron to the green. At 75 I have to play to the right of the bunker and hit a little upslope so I have a hybrid or fairway wood to the green. Some Like It Hot! .

Played 18 at Huntsville Country Club today. Pretty windy with gusts up to 30 mph but the sun was out most of the day. However my driver was off and on which made the course pretty tough. Shot a 44 on the front but with 2 doubles due to my errant drives. The back 9 made a turn for the worse as the driver was worse and my chips, which were great on the front saving me from a bigger score, went south on a few holes. Ended up with a 49 on the back (to include an 8 on a par 4) for a subpar 93. Back to the drawing board and working with the club pro!

Ok 1st round of my 4 day tourney at my old club which is the Number One club in NZ but played like a busted ass lol, was sick as a dog couldn't hit the barn door finished up with 3 8's But I was crook and tried too hard 51 each side. Their is a silver lining the other guy I was playing couldn't play today for personal reasons so had a walk over, I can't believe the difference in ball striking from Saturday and out of 100 shots 10 were really good but 90 weren't and by much but an inch is as good as a mile. Part of this whole day was because I haven't played there since January when I said I didn't like their silly rules so abit nervous but I didn't see any one from the club just the organisation running the day...

Hope tomorrow at Levin is better, couldn't be any worse that's for sure...

I was lucky enough to play Rum Pointe last week and even though my swing is horrible this year and my scoring is depressing I had a great experience on a great course in really good weather.  Sunny, mid 60's temps and enough wind to protect the course as the Dye's intended.  This is my fav course in the Ocean City area and in my top 3 courses I have ever played anywhere.  The other 3 in our group had never played it before, all said the pictures I had been sharing ahead of time didn't do it justice.

Here is a pic I took of SWMBO from the 16th tee.  The wind was coming off the bay which was a good thing since my slight draw on that tee shot didn't have the proper start line and would have been wet except the wind pushed it to hit about 2 yards from the edge of the water.

It was a good day for a Spy meetup and I shot 42-38 for an 80. 1 birdie, 1 double, no penalties. Drove the ball very well, and my short game saved me. Putting was bad, but getting better. After the third hole, where I 3-putted #1 & #2, I told myself to stop peeking and putted much better for the rest of the day. Irons were a little off too I was hitting greens (10/18) but my proximity was terrible, even with wedges.
